    I watched this video about a week ago, and it seemed like a cool idea since most people add dye to their resin vats directly and I wasn't into that. Unfortunately, I couldn't find your video anymore until today (damn you RUclips!). Ended up getting the same ink and tried it out. The results are great! Also tried to just 'wash' my print in ink diluted with IPA but that didn't seem to stick at all. Thanks a bunch for this vid :D Now all I gotta do is find out how to reduce yellowing a little (comes out of the initial IPA wash yellow/frosted) and my transparent prints will be awesome!

    I purchased the supplies and followed your recommendations and they look great. I highly recommend that others try your techniques also. Thanks for the tips. I'm using the alcohol dyes you recommended and a clear resin but am using a *water washable* clear resin and appearance wise it looks the same. The clear coat does a great job of removing any surface cloudiness too. Because of the many color options I prefer the clear resin however I see many people having difficulty printing with clear but haven't found too many solutions for this. Models that I print using a darker resin come out perfectly, however when I print with the clear resin I often get just blobs in the tray and nothing on the print plate. Considering that you have a great deal of experience with using clear resin, have you had problems printing with clear and, if so, what settings did you change to fix the problem please? I'm experimenting with different exposure times however perhaps you have some expert advice? Thanks!

    So I'm using Elegoo clear blue but it's definitely frosted. Maybe it's the acetone I'm using. Maybe it's the ink you use. Not sure what it is, but I'm trying to get to the bottom of it as I really need this print to be as glass like as possible. I'll try a super quick dip in the acetone as it's much much stronger than 99% IPA. Hoping that's it as I do tend to leave them in there too long sometimes.

    • @TD3DMakes
      @TD3DMakes  3 года назад

      Definitely could be the acetone. I haven't tried cleaning prints with it but I know even with 99% IPA leaving it in too long results in cloudy prints.

    Great process for the outside. Any thoughts on what to do if you model is hollow to keep the inside clear?

    • @TD3DMakes
      @TD3DMakes  4 года назад +2

      Yes, what I do is print it with drain holes, clean quickly using a syringe and IPA and then add a varnish to the inside also using a syringe. It works best if you empty out any excess.

    I like the frosted look to be honest.

    • @TD3DMakes
      @TD3DMakes  4 года назад +2

      Yep, there's definitely times the frosted look is best. The clear is definitely useful in some cases though.

    how long did you cure it on the uv box? mine turned yellowish.

    • @TD3DMakes
      @TD3DMakes  3 года назад +1

      So, there are 2 things you can do to prevent yellowing. Turn the exposure time down slightly in your slicer, start with small changes to keep quality prints. The second is being very careful to turn the curing lights off as soon as the print is no longer tacky

    The result are really great. Looks like crystal. What do you use for a clear coat please. Will any spray lacquer work?

    • @TD3DMakes
      @TD3DMakes  3 года назад +1

      Hello, thanks for watching! I just use plain rust-o-leum clear coat spray paint. I've seen quite a few posts of people using different lacquers with similar results though.

      @@TD3DMakes Thanks for the response. I just ordered some uncolored clear resin and the alcohol dye you recommended so I can try your technique. I've been using clear colored resin but the pieces are a bit too dark (and cloudy) but I think I can get better results using your method. I'll be buying the clear coat spray tomorrow and will keep you posted. Thanks again.
