This is one of the most entertaining, clear and informative tutorials I've come across. The fact that it is spoiler-free and the names and missions are full of references, makes it al the more fun to watch. Looking forward for part 3.

Having now seen the *official how to play video.... I'll be coming back here to learn the game. Your presentation is humorous, yet clear, well structured and hence wonderfully easy to follow.
    * Not a dig at Shea, he's got a conversational style that works for the game overviews he normally does on Rahdo's channel, but it's not transferred well into a how to play video (IMO). It's a rather specialised skill, but one that these 'new recruit training' videos clearly demonstrate, albeit merging humour into it is a rare bonus (the leading board game 'how to play' presenters can be a little 'dry').
I dread to think how much effort went into creating these two videos, but they are exemplary.

This is absolutely amazing in every way possible. Extremely helpful and probably one of the best tutorial videos I've ever come across (for any board game). Great addition to the games tutorial and rule book, which - I have to say - can be somewhat confusing and leaves quite a few questions unanswered.

I was terrified to see another potential example of Megadodo Furniture Inc. getting their clutches in to another channel and corrupting them. But I am ecstatic to report this video is yet another hit. Awaken Realms should 100% make this their official video series!

After waiting more than a year for ISS Vanguard to arrive, it sadly sat on my shelf of, er, opportunity as I had, fortunately, many board game designer clients this year needing development work. Now, until Jan I'm free to dive into space.
This is a remarkable set of videos. I'll circle back to the first one a bit later and make a comment. From the clear tone of your voice, the subtle humor, and the excellent imaging work, you should have steady work in the field for decades. Exceptionally well done!!

Great idea creating a mock version so as to avoid spoilers. Well done, and keep up the good work.
Looking forward to part 3, but will hopefully be in game by that time as we usually get our games here in NZ about 2 weeks or so after they arrive at the Sydney hub.

The official how-to-play video from RTFM just came out, and it's a mess compared to this one. He skips around different rules, shows an example of a dice roll and plays cards from hand before even explaining the steps involved in a dice check or turn structure, and rushes through everything insanely quickly like he's late for an appointment.
Even with a made up scenario and 3D assets, this video provides a much more structured overview of the exploration phase.

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually thought Shea's video was excellent, but I'm also glad that a few people watched mine too, for a slightly different perspective. It's always good to have options!

    • @iansutton7416
      @iansutton7416 2 года назад +3

FWIW I agree the official video feels rushed / disorganised, and in short Shea's normal conversational style hasn't translated well to this format. Not at all easy to learn from.
I'm slightly surprised Paul Grogan wasn't enlisted, given his work with AR on this game shaping the rules and supporting material. He's a little dry in his how to play videos, but he puts effort into the structure and timing that makes them more effective. Alongside Jon gets games and Rodney Smith, they really are the current gold standard for how to play videos, though I think I've found a new favourite in these two videos.

@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 this way of making a tutorial must be insanely time consuming. As others have said in het comments: the visuals, the writing, the attention to detail and the brilliant humor make this an outstanding production.
Lots and lots of other games could do with this kind of rules explainer. Send them links to this and game producers would be silly not to pay big bucks for your work.

Fantastic! Just to let people know ... at 16:43 instead of placing a universal marker on a time track, you should use a time token. I explain time tokens in my first count down article (30) on MyISSVanguard.

None of these are from the game; they’re inside joke fake characters, items, events and stories. Only the dice and the lander are real, as far as I can tell. And the rules, obviously.
