Time to Buy a G87 M2.

- What an incredible time at MPact, I am already looking forward to next year! In today's video I meet up with Chris and his G87 M2. This car looks INCREDIBLE with the way Chris has set it up, I wouldn't change a thing. It is tasteful, simple and gives classic vibes, I just love it.
NOW...BEFORE YOU SAY IT: "BUT Jon, you said you disliked this car.." You are absolutely right, I did not love it.. It was hard for me to envision this car pulling off it's less than ideal body features. But I must be honest, this is the first one I have seen that I have liked. I think its a mixture of a few things: The Color (This car really only looks good in red and black imo, best in black), the wheelset (LM's and E88's would be my pick of the litter all day for this chassis, mesh wheels and a dish do this body wonders) and lastly the trunk (The alpha N trunk helps TREMENDOUSLY with the oddly large rear bumper corners.
The front of the car I can get behind in the color black. The colored cars look odd with the way they designed the grills, black basically just hides all of that for me, which I prefer. The side profile is very good, like a more angular and compact M4CSL. The hips and fenders are very reminiscent of the e30 M3, I love that.
Performance: There isn't much to dislike here. It's got the s58, it is extremely capable and DOES NOT drive like the M4 or the M3.. It's as if the M4CSL had a baby with the M3, then stole the wheelbase from an E46 M3. It's interesting, and different..It is GOOD. Very snappy, compliant and feels light on its feet (despite its heavy weight on paper)
The steering is my ONLY gripe (which I fully expected) If the car had MAYBE 15% more of a hydraulic feel, it would be PERFECT. I had a conversation with a few friends who are building these at MPact, and there are some tricks to help these M2's feel even better, If I buy one I am doing them:
1. Flash M4 CSL Steering Electronics Into Car
2. M4 CSL Hub Conversion
3. Monoball Bushings all around
4. Aftermarket Control Arms, Thrust Arms, etc..
5. Ohlins Coilovers
I think that would really set this car up for success!
The G80's and G82's are EVERYWHERE. Literally. I have never seen so many G8X's at one show. Which is awesome, but also..makes them less appealing to me. BMW has sold over 25,000 G80s, thats already 9,000 more than the F80 Run and they aren't even finished yet. If you are a straigh tline speed guy, the M2 wont be for you. This is a corners car. Therefore, the RWD and the Manual makes the most sense. It's perfect for this car.

The M2 is slowly growing on me. Really didn't like it at first but now with the aftermarket patrs comign out it seems like you can make these looks pretty good and aggresive

IMO having a darker color on it, like black, makes it a lot more palatable too. The light blue you see them in really draws your attention to some of their really weird body lines.
Dont get me wrong the g87 m2 aftermarket potential is so great. It crazy how a m2 is 4000 pound now. I thought the m2 is supposed to be this lighter nimble car.
2023 Cayman is still 3100lbs.ND Miata got lighter than the NC Miata.
How BMW managed to make a rear drive G87 M2 300lbs HEAVIER than a 4-door, AWD, Audi RS3 is actually impressive.
@mperformance3502 The same can be said about most sports/super/hypercars. Most of them are ugly as hell but people love them because of what comes with the package.

The S58 is such a better motor in everyway than the B58 except sound 😅
I actually don’t mind the sound. Under load, higher rpm sounds like a flat 6 Porsche

I did NOT like the G87 when it was first released. I talked so much trash about it... Over time, as all new BMW designs do, it grew on me. This video had a huge part in changing my mind. I just put my order in for this same spec in Toronto red on Thursday :D Can't WAIT (now I need to save up for this exhaust setup 😅)

First time i saw this car i wasn't visually impressed on it's looks compared to previous generations.
It's kinda grown on me somehow, i want a G87 M2!
I absolutely love the interior and the engine in the new M2 but when you compare this one to your OG I just can't accept the looks of the new one at all although Chris' is probably the best example I have seen. Thanks to you I am already prepping my list of bits to buy for my M2 I am hopefully picking up spring 24 :)

Love how you're willing to check out the new M2 after saying you didn't like it. I personally am not sold on it at all. However. That being said. I'm an open minded person too.

I wish I had money for one. The G87 M2 is amazing and everyone complains because of how it looks. If I were super rich right now, I would buy the G87 M2. I made a video where I put the best rims (wheels) on the G87 M2, and I also put the best spoiler wing for the M2 cars on it. I also showcased the car with different colors. It completely changes the car. The problem with the car is companies keep choosing to place entirely all black wheels on stock sports cars. Black wheels only look good with machine lip, polish, or chrome edge. They demonstrated this car with a bad choice for rims, or wheels. I plan to save up money and sell my stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and buy an M240i xDrive. If I get rich, I will buy the new G87 M2. People are really sleeping on this car. S58 is the new 3JZ.
And to think, I got flamed when Thicwhip said the G87 was an abomination and he’d never want one, and I said he’d change his mind in 6 months. Shocking, here we are.

M2 is ugly as sin. Performance wise, dope but appearance matters to me. Granted, I am absolutely a fanboy of the g80 front end so sue me 😂😂😂

The G87 looks like a Lego set designed for ages 3+ (many share this opinion, I didnt make it up). Also, it's much more digital than most performance cars a true automotive enhusiast would be comfortable with. It's a hard pass for most people, myself included. It will never grow on me. But for the new crop of enthusiasts, looks like a great option - it's new, it's fast, comes in manual, and has lots of screens.

I'm curious how you like the full digital dash? I wish they were more like Porsche with real tack/rpm's in the center but the rest digital.
It's going to take some time for me to get used to it. I'm so used to my E Series cars that even the G20/G8X screens are new to me, let alone these giant wrap around screens.. BUT, I will say from a tech perspective its pretty neat. As long as it doesn't take away from the actual driving experience Im here for it.

Why did they stick with such boring colors for this thing? That includes that blue, too light. Meanwhile you can get a sexy purple on the M240i lol. I think a lot of people will go black on this car, black does a good job of covering up the horrible lines and shapes on it. That nose is terrible, and the back bumper is bad. Duckbills needed to balance that ass.

All videos you make have a great quality, nice editing and overall it’s just great content. Wait for the warped brake rotors at 2300 miles or near abouts. And if you have ANY modifications on it then the warranty is void
Somebody just watched vehicle virals and got scared 😂😂 it’s not warped rotors btw. It is 100% electronic issue related, my vote is abs system. You can hear it freaking out. Warped rotors or bad pads will not make that noise. As far as warranty, anyone relying on a dealership after mods is not the brightest. The moment I buy a car from a dealer, I do not return. Dealerships are not your friend and they are not the smartest in the room. I’ve got independent techs that are far better at their job.

I do have a question about all these mods. Doesn’t BMW void the warranty when tampering with the vehicle to such an extent? Here in India they’ll snap off the warranty even if you tried to pinch the wires…

G87s are SICK... They have the proper bmw kidney grill design and M bumper but just modernized and more angular which is fine and looks great with the front spitter added... Anything is better than the G80 fascia imo but I'm a BMW purist from way back so I'm not open to radical design changes... I really see the G87 M2 as a new E36 with those angular lines but it also has widebody flares similar in feel to the E30 M3... Would have loved to see clear on top, red on bottom tail lights though.... But it's definitely the best RWD S58 car... If you have to have the AWD and are going for 1/4 mile times... M4 comp is still better for that... but for anything else.. the M2 is the better car. Would love to see one on the channel
I’ve never liked those kinds of wheels 🛞. The brand yes, but those only if they were black or a darker colour. Also, the Center cap could be a black and white BMW floating logo.

"A little car like this" lol. dude, it's approaching 4,000 pounds and has a 108.1 in wheelbase. That's not a little car by any stretch of the imagination. It's like 11 inches longer than the Supra and 500 pounds heavier.... and even the Supra is really not that little of a car. An S2000 is a little car. An FD RX7 is a little car. A miata is a little car.
The E46 M3 has a wheelbase of 107"..you are telling me that is not a little car? lol...
I also never said it was LIGHT...I said it was LITTLE.. These are two different metrics. I'm also not basing my judgement off of a toyota or honda. I am speaking relative to what we are seeing today from BMW, their lineup these days is massive..
@@ThicWhips Uh, yes, that is what I'm telling you. The S650 Mustang has a wheelbase of 107" inches and weighs slightly less than the new M2, and that's an American muscle car! The M2 is neither little nor light.

Love the mods - the CF trunk, the other CF pieces, especially the LM's - but in the end, Butthead was right - "you can't polish a turd", though this was a valiant effort. Brilliant car as long as you don't have to look at it.
I can say this is probably better than yhe m4 price wise it is a 2 door same engine

Looks good in black but at this price point I’d rather pay a bit extra and get into a lightly used Porsche. I had the G87 for a week and currently own the OG. The G87 is super quick but the driving experience is very insulated and feels less raw. The old school charm is gone with the G87

@@ThicWhips what? The reason I bought the F82 was the head up Display and the full leather interior wasn’t available in the older M2. I drive them daily and long distance so this is important to me.
