Is this Ireland’s most obscure tradition?

- I bet you've never heard of this Irish tradition from the country - seeing as my own (townie) Irish husband hadn't even heard of it! It's the best craic tradition from up home in Co. Mayo.

the beginning of the video has mad Blair Witch vibes
I have a mad idea to do another car treasure hunt and live stream it so you can help solve the clues etc... what do you think?! LIKE the video if you like this idea!
OMG yes please to this!!! XD
Nice to see you again ❤❤❤❤ Say Hey to your Awesome Husband Alex .. The luckiest man in Ireland
From the County Cork Guy …Your my Fav….❤❤❤❤
Well thats a twist on "Geocaching" looked like a fun way to spend a day. Had to chuckle when you did the little pan into the Barn Dance first thing that caught my eye was a replica photo of Geronimo and of course John Wayne. :) Now if your going to go where they play country music we best see you doing a little "Line Dancing" little lady. Best to all as always and scritches for Miss Millie from roastie toastie Texas
It's slightly different to geocaching because with that there's something hidden that you need to find and usually it's a bit of paper that you sign and put back but a scavenger or treasure hunt you get either clues or riddles that send you somewhere and usually you find the answer to the riddle but they always have a start point/place and a finish point/place.
The treasure/scavenger hunt is usually on foot and you just walk everywhere and usually just get handed a map, compass and some sort of clues to tell you where to go then you might get an extra bit of paper with riddles and you can see the answer to the riddles at the marker it's matched up to but usually them sort of ones are over moores and places like that but there's more types than I could name but the one I just described is the most popular and the type most people think of when someone mentions a scavenger/treasure hunt
In Australia we call them a mystery car rally. Haven't done one for years
I've been watching your videos for years and I don't know why, but this one's my favorite. ❤
Omg thank you so much 😭
@@Clisare you're so welcome! Thank you for all the hard work you put into what you do, and for the happiness that all of us get from your efforts! 🙂
You did a great job hopping those fences! There is no car treasure/scavenger hunts in America, that I know of!
Way to go, Mayo!! Mayo is the best!
Actually there are in the states. They're called road rallies. Plenty of them over the summer in upstate NY and one next weekend on long island
I did a car treasure hunt once with my family. It was for some friends of ours to lead all their friends around our town, to their new house for a bbq and pool party.
We have nothing so grand or well organized, but we have similar activities called scavenger hunts. My friend CC and I actually organized one for our work friends back in the '80's.
I've done one of these. I live in rural Ontario, Canada. In a county that was originally settled by Scottish and Irish settlers.
That was fun! It reminds me of similar things we've done here in America called a Wonder Run. Because each year was different and you didn't get your next destination until you completed the current one. And in a Wonder Run, you go to each stop and play a game like naming each color that's written on a sheet of paper in another color. Like the word Blue but it's written with Green marker for example. And green was the answer.
Your adventures are so cool Claire..looking to the next
We did this during lockdown when everyone was finally allowed to go out driving! It was the best fun we'd had in such a long time, even though I didn't have a clue what was going on for most of it (I'm not from around here, and it was heavily centered around knowledge and history of the Parish). Luckily I was with ones who did know what was happening. 10/10 would definitely do again in a heartbeat!
Where I grew up in Washington State we had Salmon Days. Salmon is very important to lots of areas, and should be celebrated!
Look like great craic, brilliant fun😂
a friend's bf did one in kerry recently.... it was both of our first times ever hearing of anything like it
That was great! Su much fun! ❤
I was part of a thing called GISH for 6 years. We'd find things but mostly create things. It stood for Greatest International Scavenger Hunt. . . Shortened from GISHWHES (greatest international scavenger hunt the world has ever seen)! It was SO MUCH FUN! One week every August 🎉❤
That looks like a lot of fun! I think we have something similar near me, but I've never done it. Too much running around 😅
This Is GREAT !! It looks like the best kind of fun I’ve seen in a while Clisare 😊
Cheers From California 😊
Well that looked hella fun!
We call that a "scavenger hunt" in the States, this is a great vid Clisare.
In the UK we call them both names it just depends on of the person organising it wants to call it a scavenger hunt or a treasure hunt. Usually it's the properly organised and bigger events that get called scavenger hunts and the smaller or one off ones usually get called a treasure hunt ohh and 99% of the time if it's for kids they call it a treasure hunt probably because that sounds more fun than a scavenger hunt to kids if you get what I mean
Oh my goodness this looks like so much fun😁 You guys did a great job 👏🏻 Thanks Clare for taking us along ❤️
omg this looked SOOOO fun. makes me want to see if my town has any
Bless you! Your videos always put a smile on my face❤
Clisare makes me want to check out Ireland
This looks like such great fun! Always down for the craic!!! Would love to do this!
So much fun! I did a hunt like that in college. We were up partying up all night. At 7am the hunt started and we took fourth place! Love your videos!
How many groups where in the hunt? If you don't mind me asking
It was 30+ years ago, but around twenty I think.@@georginawatson9057
Oh does that bring back memories! When I was a young lad, my church youth group would have these. They weren’t formal, but they were well thought out and set up to take us all around the countryside. Haven’t thought of them in many years!
i did this on my motor cycle , they called it a mystery ride. Had to get clues to get to are next destination .
Mighty craic 🤸Well done 👏
USA, Pennsylvania. Never been in one, but have heard of them. Poker runs are much more common around here.
We call this a Scavenger Hunt ourselves 😂
I used to take part in car treasurehunts here in West Cornwall in the 1980s. Don't know that it happens anymore,
Car treasure hunt sounds fun. Every summer my county library does a summer reading program and part of it is a scavenger hunt. You get clues or questions to figure out but we have two months to get the answers. That's thosest thing we have in Ohio.(USA)
A day of fun and laughs looks like you got the real treasure. 👍
How fun! Ireland slaps 👍👍
Would love to see your journalistic superpowers let loose on the history of the Auto Treasure Hunt. Is it peculiar to Mayo alone or do other counties participate? I've seen something similar portrayed in movies, but haven't a clue about anyone doing it for real anywhere. In the early days of the automobile, it was rally racing -- my father, as a young journalist, participated in the Paris-Monte Carlo rally back in the late 1920s. BTW, congratulations on winning some of the petrol money back. And that may be a clue to why this is a rare thing: back when gas was pennies a gallon, we drove all over like mad -- then the oil crisis hit in the mid-70s and everything changed. And it's only gotten worse since. Looked like great fun! Hi to Millie!
I love it! You look like you're having so much fun, which made this enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing this video with us, Clisare!
Love ya ❤❤❤❤ my all time favorite ❤❤❤❤
That looks soooo fun!!!!
That's why they have a clew bay in mayo
Brilliant ! Never heard of a car treasure hunt before and I’m the poorer for it. Great craic, It looks like a day of solid fun. Blessings,❤.
"We'll take ye all down one by one."
Evil Dead reference!
I’ve never seen it 😂
Love it Clare! It gets sooooo competitive!! Thanks so much for showcasing some of our unique and quirky festivals and events. Can't wait to see more. ❤
Here in the mid west of the US, we call them scavenger hunts. Same premise tho….haven’t don’t one in about 40 years now 😢. 💖
I adore this channel - it's the most charming channel on the internet - and you, Clisare, the most charming host! I wish I had heard of car treasure hunts, I would certainly go!
We have a basically identical annual event here in Lahti, Finland as well. Looked like a ton of fun for you guys!
This was such a delight to watch, looked like a lot of fun!
Here in the USA, people with motorcycles do Poker Runs. They go to 5 different places, and collect a card. At the end, whoever has the beast poker hands wins the pot. I have seen where they raise money for different needs with the entry fees.
I would love to do one like you did.
This was a really good video & it seemed like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing it with us 👍🏻
This is amazing! I’ve only learned of these recently. It’s so great!
Thanks.
Living the dream
Loved this video and also the idea of a car treasure hunt! I don't remember having those growing up in Waterford so it might be a unique to Mayo thing
Up Mayo!!
I have never heard of this and I'm cbar born and bred? My new hobby xx
Come to Ballina and give it a go! 🙌🏻
This looks like great fun! We do scavenger hunts but usually on foot.
Omg this looks so fun. When I come back to Ireland I’m doing this!
I’ve never heard of car treasure hunt. That’s actually new to me. Well I guess I live in the states, so yeah that’s very new.
Congrats to the Three Blind Mice! If an answer did not get any points, did the organizers tell you the answer, or did you find out from the others contestants? That way you can see how the riddle and the answer came to be. That MIGHT help you for the next time on how these riddles are formulated. WELL DONE, you three!!!! BRAVO!!!! I love this video!!! 😍
They did go through all the answers but I can’t remember what the answer was! 😂
I feel like Irish people could say 'sure look, I had to do a murder' and I'd be like yeah, fair play when you put it that way.😂
You should do a video on the Peace Wall in Northern Ireland
I just watched a clip on The Guardian
I don't think I've ever seen anything this mad X'D Just plugging the term into Google, there's definitely hunts outside Mayo, but I'd never heard of it prior to today XD
very like your videoabout iteland
Sounds like Hashing without the beer.
I wanna do this!
With a name like O'Dowds, that bar is about as American as O'Tacos in Paris is Irish.
Car treasure hunts are amazing fun!
My first team was *Team You Want Me to Do What?!* which evolved for the final 5 years to *Team Okie Dokie Artichokie* 😅❤😂
American Bar in Ireland? We flock to Ireland just for Irish Pubs!
I’ve done something similar. Usually involves a Mexican Fire drill.
(Which is where car stops at stop light. Everyone gets out of car. Gets back in car different door. Usually four door vehicle)
I’ve also done a bus road trip. Which involved stopping at six different Legions. Ending with a Barbecue Chicken dinner at last Legion.
I am confused about one thing however. You said go home…. I thought the name of your home county was Clisair?
… Are you joking? I can’t tell 😂 My home county is Mayo and I’m named after county Clare. Clisare isn’t my real name, it’s a nickname. Clare is my real name. Does that clear it up? 😅😅
@@Clisare No I wasn’t joking. Nor am I joking now. I made the assumption that you were from Clare County.
Not simply named after it.
I also may have made the incorrect assumption. That since Clisare is Clare in Irish. That Clare County is Clisare County in Irish.
I was trying to be respectful. I think it turned out disrespectful. For that I apologize.
It's always better to have a Mark ! Take care
Cool 😎
This seems similar to a gimmick rally. My dad, who used to do time and distance rallies, told me about them.
I've done a care thing where you collected playing cards to make a poker hand,
car to care
"not" not "to"
We did this for our battle of the sexes week in high school! It was so much fun!
Looks like it was gas!
Nice color on you, the jacket--matches your eyes
Thank you 🥰🥰
@@Clisare yw!
No car treasure hunts in North Florida as far as I know....
Never been to Ireland even though my father was born there , he was born in the town of Tipperary which is also the county Tipperary , you obviously know that , do you ever intend to do a video of that area ? Would be nice to see that town, if you are planning it in the future could you let me know ? Thanks and may your god be good to you.
I’ve done a few videos around Tipperary! Maybe I’ll make County-specific playlists to help people find them. I have a video on the secret pub in Tipp!
@@Clisare oh ok , I will see if I can find it , the county idea would be interesting one thinks , thanks for reply young soul , be good if not be bad the choice is yours.
We have a Medallion hunt in St. Paul Minnesota that is more of a cryptography community wide game. no registration only one winner
Clisare… You had fun. You went back home. You put a lot of car miles. But in the end, you had fun. That’s all that matters. I wish I could take some time off from work to have fun.
Do!
@@Clisare Sadly Clisare, I can’t.
👍 🙂
sounds like you may enjoy Geocaching too.
What’s that?
🪙🤑💸💰
Did ye never think of a pogo stick, lass?
… for what? 🤔
👍👍🚗🚗👍👍😂
Only in Ireland 😂
Sounds like a really crappy but fun movie from the.80s called Midnight Madness.
The yute of today wha
