I think a video on Tyranid subspecies that have become feral could be interesting, specifically how the krakens on Fenris and brainleafs on Catachan are suspected to be just tyranid subspecies that lost their connection to the hive mind.
A small correction: Abbadon was not teleported back to the Vengeful Spirit during the fight under the Saturnine gate. He was teleported back to one of the digger machines they had used to try and dig under the gate. He later went and rallied some of his men and flew back to the Vengeful Spirit by Thunderhawk. Or rather, he stepped into the thunderhawk and then stepped out again in the Vengeful Spirit's docking bay, due to the warp shenanigans taking place in the latter parts of the siege.

One day while moving from hiding place to hiding place, your approached by astartes wearing all black with no chapter emblems asking you if you want a second chance to serve the emperor.
One group of Emperor's Children loyalists, the Death Eagles chapter, became blackshields during the Heresy and repelled the traitors from Lethe. Later, during the 3rd founding, a chapter by the name Death Eagles surfaces as a Raven Guard successor. All this to say, there's always hope, even for traitor lineages.

As a Warrior, no other Spacesmarine has ever fought so many named legendary characters and won so many duels. As an icon, Abaddon has been The Chaos leader since 1996. You might not like it... but Ezekyle Abaddon is the "most" Spacesmarine to ever exist in the lore.

There's actually some real world relevance to the Black Shields. In English culture at least, having your coat of arms, which was typically displayed on a shield, painted over in black was a sign that you had done something to bring you or your family into dishonour (it was something like that, I can't remember exactly). My family name has two black shields in Lancaster Castle, though I've never been able to find out what it was my distant ancestors may have done to deserve such a thing

I really do love the Blackshields as a concept and find them very interesting. I do feel though that enough Loyalists from the traitor legions stayed loyal that Guilliman being an amazing bureaucrat and master of logistics was not just able to shield many of the Loyalists from traitor legions but used the Second Founding to cover the trails of many of them turning them into chapters that are "Successors" from the Ultramarines' legion. Not only saving a f*ck tonne of man power, but also giving these Marines a place they could belong in the loyal Imperium. It would also help explain a lot of things that are basically traits from the old legions that somehow showed up as chapters but are labeled Ultramarine successors.
The Ultramarines and Fists also took in the survivors of the 2 lost Primarchs. This is a known fact. Also why the Crimson Fists have some interesting aspects that seem at odds with Dorn's other sons.
I think this is less a theory and more a heavily implied fact. And it's not just Ultramarines who did it. There's a blackshield group formed from the remnants of a loyalist Emperor's Children chapter, called the Death Eagles. Wouldn't you know it, there's also a Raven Guard successor chapter of the 3rd founding called the Death Eagles...

Someone like Arrian Zorzi had the Nails and yet still stood apart from his bloodthirsting brothers...he wasn't exempt from madness, but still had the semblance of composure of the old Legion and the Apothecaries. Very interesting video, Leutin! These deep dives into the more obscure aspects of the 40k lore are some of my favorite! M31 is an era that seems to be heavily covered but only in the sense of the main players on both sides. It's really interesting to hear about the other parts of the heresy.
This type of comment could go on any of your videos @Luetin09 but after many years of listening this video, especially at the end reminded me most as to why I listen to any and all videos you put out. These videos have put me sound to sleep night and night again, made long study sessions in college feel like mere minutes, and have provided countless hours of entertainment on long drives to work. For that I am thankful. Here’s to many more videos like the hundreds you have already put out and to others like me who found your videos hand have fallen in love with the world of 40k.
I really wish they covered these Marines more often or even ones that went rogue. WH 40k has so much more lore with Astartes than just the Chapters/ Legion marines.

Probably one of my favourite lesser known characters, took a blade in the chest multiple times and still nearly got the kill on Abaddon had he not had plot armour
Abaddon didn't "use plot armour" to win. He stabbed the man in his brain! Abaddon used Artificer Cataphractii Terminatorplate and its shields to survive Haars attacks.
I thought the angriest Marines wore yellow armor adorned with a scowling red face, but I didn't know much about Blackshields and Endryd Haar. Awesome! Also, I like the new chapter marker/title card animations. Very slick.
I’m definitely loyalist leaning but I absolutely love loyalist from the traitor legions and even just non chaos aligned renegades. Would love more stories following astartes who are just renegades loyal only to themselves and there renegade brothers as well as stories following traitor legion loyalists. They just seem to have so much character in the lore
Soooo tempted to do a full 5 man Black Shields veteran killteam squad for my Deathwatch. Just one squad of badass anti-hero dudes that nobody else wanted.
Excellent video, that telling of Harr’s story is pristine. It really is moving seeing such realization of the Astartes discovering their true purpose through the destruction of any humanity they had left. It didn’t matter how loyal they were, they were their own weapons of their demise and it really is indescribable how much of a monster the Emperor truly is. There has to be a much broader reason for the Heresy, because even if his plans didn’t go awry, how would it have been less destructive? So many pieces of the picture missing is scary enough, but very interesting. Anyway love the exploration, please do Tyrannids or custodes next, I can’t get enough of the bugs.

Awesome video Luetin! Harr and the Blackshields are one of my top added new lore tidbits to 30k. They are indeed so fascinating amidst the madness of the Heresy. And the audio drama trilogy featuring Harr penned by Josh Reynolds has got to be one of the best ones I listened to! While I wish Reynolds had had time to pen Harr's end, it is funny how he pinned Abaddon in death during that brutal fight.

Luetin has an uncanny ability to capture my attention and keep it. I listen to these videos in my truck a lot and even after a 2 hour video im sad that its over and im left wanting to know more. An absolutely incredible story teller. Id listen to a 6 hour video on how best to watch grass grow if Luetin made it.

This makes me wonder if there are any known Astartes "swords to plowshares" stories from the Heresy or post-Heresy era. It isn't necessarily something that would lead to exciting content like this, but I am curious.
That entire concept is erased from their psyche. A lot goes Into hypno-conditioning. Conditioned only for war and loyalty, such concepts such as peace and comfort are simply erased or replaced with increased aggression and a unending need for violence. Astartes are not human, they have no need or desire or concept of peace.
It sounds like you're describing a pirate age of the Astartes. Some fought for the emperor, some against, some banded together for themselves, and some just did it to watch the worlds burn.
Someday, somewhere, in some way, I hope to be as strong and unyielding as Endryd Haar. That’s a level of strength that I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of in 40K before. Great video Luetin ^^
Loyalist Astartes from traitor Legions and traitor Astartes who still rejected chaos are more compelling in my opinion. I'd love to see some rogue Astartes collaborate with a T'au splinter faction.
This is perfect. I have just bought about 20 intercessors and have been trying to figure out a paint scheme for them. Gonna try and make them black shields as described in this video.
I'm actually creating a Blackshield army in 40k, they are a band of rogue Astartes who originated from the Dark Brotherhood warband, now called The Black Sails, they live as Pirates and Mercenaries who control several worlds in the Pale Stars. They are not so much as loyalist or traitor, but rather Anti-heroes, they'll ally with or against anyone as long as it serves their own interests. For the moment, the Inquisition is willing to hire them to cause problems for Traitor and chaos fleets trying to move through their sector as well as act as a dumping ground for Astartes still loyal to the Imperium but for various reasons could no longer serve in their chapters, not even in the Deathwatch.
I will never not get excited whenever you upload a video. It's almost a certainty that I'll learn something new about WH40K. Some of my favourite figures from the Heresy are Sevatarion, Alexis Polux and Revuel Arvida aka Janus.
His Autonomy, Brutality, Fierce Drive to Die in Battle & ability to cleave through Astartes so easily, really makes me wonder if he was actually a surviving Thunder Warrior? If so, that would make his story even more of an epic tragedy....
I also gotta add. Wasn't it a mantilith pattern termite assault rig abbadon teleported back to after haar did some facial cosmetic surgery on the first captain? The bedrock was denying the Tele homing signal or something preventing the 1st company from extraction
The blackshields I find more interesting than the traitor legionaries who stayed loyal to the Emperor, are the loyalist legionaries who turned against Him. It takes far more of an esoteric and personal motivation to side with the Warmaster even when your own primarch is staying loyal to the emperor than to stay loyal to the emperor as your primarch turns traitor.

Would love more stories following astartes who are just renegades loyal only to themselves and there renegade brothers as well as stories following traitor legion loyalists. They just seem to have so much character in the lore

Excellent video, that telling of Harr’s story is pristine. It really is moving seeing such realization of the Astartes discovering their true purpose through the destruction of any humanity they had left. It didn’t matter how loyal they were, they were their own weapons of their demise and it really is indescribable how much of a monster the Emperor truly is. There has to be a much broader reason for the Heresy, because even if his plans didn’t go awry, how would it have been less destructive? So many pieces of the picture missing is scary enough, but very interesting. Anyway love the exploration, please do Tyrannids or custodes next, I can’t get enough of the bugs.
I love these videos about the lesser-known legions. There are so many cool legions that get overshadowed by a handful of the popular legions. Thanks for sharing and keeping these lesser-known legions alive!

Awesome video Luetin! Harr and the Blackshields are one of my top added new lore tidbits to 30k. They are indeed so fascinating amidst the madness of the Heresy. And the audio drama trilogy featuring Harr penned by Josh Reynolds has got to be one of the best ones I listened to!
While I wish Reynolds had had time to pen Harr's end, it is funny how he pinned Abaddon in death during that brutal fight.

Luetin has an uncanny ability to capture my attention and keep it. I listen to these videos in my truck a lot and even after a 2 hour video im sad that its over and im left wanting to know more. An absolutely incredible story teller. Id listen to a 6 hour video on how best to watch grass grow if Luetin made it.

This makes me wonder if there are any known Astartes "swords to plowshares" stories from the Heresy or post-Heresy era. It isn't necessarily something that would lead to exciting content like this, but I am curious.
That entire concept is erased from their psyche. A lot goes Into hypno-conditioning. Conditioned only for war and loyalty, such concepts such as peace and comfort are simply erased or replaced with increased aggression and a unending need for violence. Astartes are not human, they have no need or desire or concept of peace.

It sounds like you're describing a pirate age of the Astartes. Some fought for the emperor, some against, some banded together for themselves, and some just did it to watch the worlds burn.

Loyalist Astartes from traitor Legions and traitor Astartes who still rejected chaos are more compelling in my opinion.
I'd love to see some rogue Astartes collaborate with a T'au splinter faction.

This is perfect. I have just bought about 20 intercessors and have been trying to figure out a paint scheme for them. Gonna try and make them black shields as described in this video.
I'm actually creating a Blackshield army in 40k, they are a band of rogue Astartes who originated from the Dark Brotherhood warband, now called The Black Sails, they live as Pirates and Mercenaries who control several worlds in the Pale Stars. They are not so much as loyalist or traitor, but rather Anti-heroes, they'll ally with or against anyone as long as it serves their own interests. For the moment, the Inquisition is willing to hire them to cause problems for Traitor and chaos fleets trying to move through their sector as well as act as a dumping ground for Astartes still loyal to the Imperium but for various reasons could no longer serve in their chapters, not even in the Deathwatch.

I will never not get excited whenever you upload a video. It's almost a certainty that I'll learn something new about WH40K. Some of my favourite figures from the Heresy are Sevatarion, Alexis Polux and Revuel Arvida aka Janus.

I also gotta add. Wasn't it a mantilith pattern termite assault rig abbadon teleported back to after haar did some facial cosmetic surgery on the first captain? The bedrock was denying the Tele homing signal or something preventing the 1st company from extraction

The blackshields I find more interesting than the traitor legionaries who stayed loyal to the Emperor, are the loyalist legionaries who turned against Him. It takes far more of an esoteric and personal motivation to side with the Warmaster even when your own primarch is staying loyal to the emperor than to stay loyal to the emperor as your primarch turns traitor.
