- Developed and published by Sega in 1992
The official coin-op sequel to Sega's classic high-fantasy beat 'em up really is a continuation of the original game. It boasts superior graphics, audio, as well as a choice of 4 different playable characters. The magic system has been reworked so that casting a spell uses a set number of potions, rather than all of them at once; stockpiling potions affords players multiple spell-casts when the going gets really tough.
There's also a limited branching path system, allowing different routes through levels 2 and 5. I wouldn't say there's any real advantage in choosing a specific path (unlike Capcom's D&D arcade games), but it's a cool feature to include.
Ultimately, if you were a fan of the original Golden Axe, The Revenge of Death Adder is likely to be right up your alley.

@@bizarrefanfictionist3498 It is called a "praying mantis". Named because the way they hold their front limbs is similar to the motion of human hands praying. Prey means something a predator hunts and eats, same pronunciation but different meaning, it kind of still makes sense since they are predators but, thought I would point out that is not what they are called.

I can't believe they never put this on a console. The amount of love that they put into this is unreal! Strapping catapults to the back of your mount among everything else is awesome! What a beautiful game for its time.

Wow. This is exceptional. This should have been put onto consoles. The aesthetic design, characters, monsters, music and combat has been given a big overhaul and it is fantastic to see.
Hopefully Sega will add it to their Sega Ages line for the Nintendo Switch (I'm tired of all the Sonic releases already).
And the attacks that co-op players can pull off together! Easily my favorite beat em up.

What really stands out to me is the sprite work in this game. I'd argue that it's a few years ahead of its time for 1992 - not so much in technological or animation terms (though those are nothing to exactly sneeze at either here), but more so the color palettes and the shading techniques used to actually draw sprites.

Spectacular. Old school 2D Arcade games (the goood ones) have an air of grandisosity, big production, top of the game product that even most of 2D games nowadays lack.
I love the scroll in the 1st stage with the big mountains, the cascade, the enemies, the weapons, music... top class enterntainment
Heroic and sad at the same time. Gilius Thunderhead gave his own life to save everyone.
Oh MAN why wasn't this popular back then? I remember the 1st Golden Axe, this would've been a HUGE HIT!!!

It’s criminal this game never got ported officially. Boggles my mind.
99% of the world only had $hitty consoles ports of these games. The rest literally had no access, let alone Arcade Cabinets even near their living place. Its truly pitiful.
I never understood why Golden Axe 3 wasn't released in the US. It was a great game and the enemies werent as dumb as a stump like in the first 2 games.
This should be put on the Playstation Store for the PS4 & PS5

Arcade 1up did release all of the Golden Axe games (includes this "lost" game) under their faux arcade cabinet collection. Not sure it's worth $500, but that's a separate matter.

I must say that Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder is my favorite video-game of all time, with how amazingly done it sure was in every way! I first discovered this at the old, now long gone Space Port II arcade at the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing, NJ, in the mid 90's, and would make it mandatory to play it whenever I went there. I'll never forget how devastated I was when I went to play it again at that arcade one day in late 99, and saw that this game was no longer there, and was told that they sold it. But they ironically now have it again at the new Starcade retro arcade they now have at that place. I frantically tried to find a console port of it of sorts, not realizing one sadly never existed. But I DID end up getting the Jamma PCB to it for my arcade machine down the road, which I have since sold when I got it on my Mame machine, and later my modded 2TB original Xbox console. But it still baffles me as to why this never got an actual console release, though can at least now (totally legally) play it at home on either the Arcade 1Up, and/or Sega Astro mini, which is good (besides having the actual board, and/or cabinet to it), but still.

Sadly yes, he sacrificed himself. The thing about it is that it seemed like he was dying anyway since he was being carried around by that giant man already so in the sense of the story he goes downs fighting giving the last hit. In a way it makes HIM the actual Hero of Golden Axe, since you know, in the first game he actually has a Golden Axe.

It's included on the Sega Astro City Mini. It's also available on the Arcade 1up Golden Axe cabinet. I opted for the former option.

Simpsons, AVP, and Hook too... But this one is the best IMO... I remember seeing this in the 90s, the graphics is waay ahead of its time.. The stages the mounts, just lets your imagination fly...

You've played this before 😉 Lovely stuff, I remember when this first appeared in the arcades as a young lad and being fascinated by the new characters, particularly Gillius riding on the back of a huge guy and how Trix could heal with magic. The game was more of the same but different enough to want to play it. I just wish I was competent as you are playing through it! Would have saved me a fortune in 20p's!
Maaaan I loved this game when I was a child. Everything on it blowed my mind. The soundtrack really made me feel in the warzone, I loved how you could ride those giant insects, and furthermore, you could put a weapon above! 🤯🤯🤯 Also how there are options to reach the castle and the vertical walking parts. Bro I loved everything about this arcade. Was fun to see it again. Thanks!😊

This brought back many memories deeply engraved in my heart! I was really good at this game but unfortunately at the expense of my studies lol… Then I was seriously addicted n kept playing truant jus to b able to hop by local arcade shop for few hrs of "practices" religiously 2-3 times per week! Sweet n sour memories I must say but it stays with me till now, 30 yrs later!
A fantastic sequel...i played it to Death(literally) at the arcades...this type of games i really love playing...Myth/Gods/Deliverance/Moonstone on the Amiga...Barbarian 1,2 on the c64...Rastan Saga...God of War on the playstation consoles...i love this type of games...also a big fan of the Conan comics/movies.

As soon as I heard it, I knew. Also when the little thief guys get hit, that's also from TMNT '90, when Tatsu beats up one of the Foot ninjas in anger. Come to think of it, most of the screams are probably lifted from other movies.

The skeleton dragon is the B2 bomber of golden axe, boom the holy crap out of the evils.
The player's a serious badass. Got only a few hits throughout the entire game.
So many sound samples from Rambo First Blood (3 at least, when characters perish...so not that many ;) ). I've never noticed it before, but with all that dodging and timed sprinting, this has a 2d Dark Souls vibe.
The first Golden Axe was excellent. Then they took it a step further. This is an amazing arcade game with tons of variety.
Never saw this in an arcade but played a lot of the first one. I was a kid and didn't realize that adder was a kind of snake. I thought it was like a mistranslation, like his name was "he who adds death" or something, lol
I remeber this as a kid. It be nice to see 2021 1st person remake

I played this in the arcade on release. This was mind blowing fun in 1992 from the eyes of a 12 year old.
Only played this game a handful of times as a child but I remember it being wild when all four characters were playing at once
