This is a great vide.o. The checkist is great, really appreciate that. I am looking at starting a new job and will be utilizing this strategy. I got the book as well and hope to read through it to build off the suggestion. Thanks!

Hey the book is very much leadership, team, org management and development focused, but has a lot of principles that can be used on any level 👍

fantastic game plan! for new ux manager joining a new (large) organization, would you place more emphasis on certain items (im thinking, 1:1s with the senior stakeholders on product, eng and customer success maybe?)? would love to see a video on how to adapt our gameplan as we transition from an Individial Contributor to a people manager.

This is quite confusing for me as someone that haven't stepped their foot into the industry. Do i need to learn all of those rhings as a beginner or until i start working ???

I started my job as an intern ux design in a startup company, my team lead do not seems to be carring me along in the ux process. I'm only given a task to do basically on the UI
I don't know how to go about it

Make sure to use the checklist - it will come down to you setting the expectations with your line manager and also being proactive in what you contribute with as you don't need as much permission as you might see - the blockers on what you contribute are often also self imposed - suggest to contribute more or start doing so

The start ups are the worse because the owner's ego is often in the way and they will want everybody to think like them, it's almost like a cult mindset. The energy is also toxic, you can't know more than the owner, it's their baby and if they want to miscarriage, let them. Overall, this is an awesome presentation, top notch all the way. You sir are generous, thank you for posting, your tacit knowledge.

    • @vaexperience

Egos are there at all sizes of orgs. At startups you are just closer to the top where every decision is heated, critical, pivotal... so the stakes, skin in the game and the ego flare ups will be more visible.

This is gold list but beware of the culture & politics. Most likely the stage would already been set & your list could be spot on or thrown away or doesn't matter. You're only as strong as your employer/manager, so if you belong to a weaker group, you'll be waiting for responses on everything and vice versa.
