art is meant to express or create an emotion in a efficient, information rich or profound way. most artist are drawn to art based on a willingness to posses this ability rather than actually having it, thats why you get so many pretentious morons whos only skill is reciting quotes of dead artists. and mimicking their work.
Karl speaks for all of us. Just about everyone I know thinks the same way as him. I suspect people pretend to understand plenty for fear of seeming unintelligent or not cultured, but the reality is that modern art is often bewildering and laughter workshops are ludicrous. He's a fine person.

I disagree that Art is just personal expression. Art galleries displaying 50 ton rocks as "art" is just nonsense, just as the ones displaying junk laying around. Art is a discipline of personal expresion, which requires study and skill development. It is not just personal expression.
