Harassing polar bears like this with a boat isn’t cool…he’s clearly distressed..😔

@@leander403 Polar bears are naturally capable of swimming very long distances…they’re known to swim continuous distances of over 650 km’s over a period of 7-9 days. In this video, we can easily see land was only a few hundred yards away, and the bear knew it. Polar bears *know* what they’re doing *and* their sense of direction is innate. Their unique coat of hollow hairs and their layer of fat gives them the superior buoyancy they need, and their webbed feet give them the power to propel their large bodies through water, even using their rear paws as a rudder.
They’re *made* for swimming, and they naturally pace themselves on their long journeys in order to avoid exhaustion.
The people in that boat were getting far too close…they very nearly ran over that bear…and swinging the boat around him in such close quarters could’ve easily resulted in a serious, or fatal, propeller injury (an entirely unacceptable risk). Besides, there’s absolutely no way to herd a polar bear with a boat in such a vast body of water. Their reckless, ill-thought-out actions only resulted in further distressing and exhausting the poor animal…
And anyone with a barely adequate modicum of logic and commonsense would recognise that.
It’s beyond apparent that the animal is distressed and struggling as a *direct result* of being harassed by them.
It’s also clear that these people’s actions are either because of their utter ignorance or their cruelty….or even worse…both. 😔 Just thought it’d make for a ‘cool’ video they could upload for RUclips clicks and likes..😒
There’s a very good reason for animal protection laws, especially considering that polar bears are a *protected species,* which require humans to keep a certain, and a respectful, distance away from these animals (at all times).

They are very capable of swimming long distances and finding land themselves. Do you think polar bears popped up out of nowhere and are thriving since motorized boats were invented? No, quite the opposite. Polar bears have been drastically minimized due to human activity.

Watch the video again and take some facts from it.
      1. It probably would have submerged under and attempted to swin away faster had something not been wrong. As it stands, that polar bear looked like it wasn't breathing correctly to submerg and made no attempts to. Polar bears are fantastic underwater swimmers, I was surprised watching that it hadn't just taken a dive to try and escape. Looks like a sign of a problem to me.
      2. Polar bears are normally pretty graceful swimmers even when hunting or escaping something, this one seemed to straight up be struggling to stay afloat, drifting all over the place and rocking like it might roll over.
      3. It is highly possible that the currents are extremely high right now, which it seems that way given how the polar bear was making no distance and seemed to be getting shifted around more than swimming. You can see it tryijg to swim in a direction only to be moving backwards or sideways. The sea looks that kind of agitated way on top that could suggest strong currents underneath.
      4. We have no way of knowing that they didn't watch the polar bear struggling against the currents for a long while before attempting to guide it. It is likely that they realized it was being dragged by currents and it looked to me like they were attempting to put their boat between the bear and the currents to give it a chance. Polar bears have been drowning a lot more often than normal, it isn't unlikely this was a potential case of that and these people know it.
      5. Polar bears CAN drown and have been more recently since the mid 2000s. Scientists have observed that decreasing ice is causing polar bears to attempt ridiculous swims that are causing drowning, mainly in cubs, but many adults also have drowned as well. They CAN also drown in waters that have gotten too rough if they are compromised or tired. This polar bear was swimming like it was already exhausted and looked skinny as though it hasn't eaten in days or weeks. As it stood, the currents were in fact overwhelming it and it was taking a suicidal last ditch effort swim to make it to ice or food. Which likely the people on the boat realized it wouldn't make it.
Not saying I know it for sure, but, depending on who these people are, they possibly led it to shore to tranquilize and move it. We don't know, but Canadian natives typically don't interfere with their wildlife unless it is necessary.

Never approach, herd, chase, or attempt to lure swimming bear(s). Reduce speed when visibility is low and avoid sudden changes in travel direction. Read also Safety in Polar Bear Habitat.’ Also ( according to WWF) they are considered marine mammals because they spend so much of their life IN water. They have been clocked swimming many miles and DAYS at a time. Stop harassing animals because you think you know better than them what they need!!

I don't know if you know this but if you want to help bears you can't exactly walk up to them and lend a hand like a dog, cat, bird, ect. Got to get creative and be safe as these particular bears are not bears you want to be near. They actually view humans as part of their diets and one of the only animals who doesn't fear humans. Did this sound like a video meant for likes and views? I don't hear no laughing, cheering, or any other type of behavior like that to suggest people were doing this for fun. First - Polar bears are the best land mammal that swims. They can swim over 200 km in a day. They rest when they want to. They are not affected by the water temperature as they have thick fat. They are also voracious predators and will kill you and eat you if they can. If you fall in the water, you are as dead as the last seal they ate. Polar bears will track for hundreds of miles on ice or snow. If you hide on an iceberg or flow, they will either climb onto it with you or force you into the water where they can kill you. They are the deadliest land mammal in the Arctic, that is not man. They are the reason that every human north of the Arctic Circle carries a hunting rifle when they go outside. Especially when they put the trash out. Polar bears love garbage cans

The people commenting “the boat is leading it to land” clearly know NOTHING about polar bears or wildlife in general. I work with polar bears and I know that they do not need human guidance to land, or anywhere else. They can literally smell land from miles and miles away, and have no difficulty getting there without help. I have no idea why so many people are commenting false information when they clearly have no idea what is going on. The person who posted this video committed a crime by chasing a polar bear, and it is in no way helpful, except for the video taker’s social media content.
