  • What could be better than a little jaunt along the south coast in typical English weather? Continuing the review in progress, I take the Just Flight Arrow up in typical nasty English weather for a quick hop from Shoreham to Southampton using Orbx scenery and Rex Weather Essentials for MSFS.

You had me holding my breath and shouting at the screen as you rolled, almost stalled, dived and climbed. Looked a pretty intense flight.

The autopilot have an altitude hold, its just hidden. Hover the mouse over the Navigation / approach coupler knob
and click. Now the autopilot stays in the altitude you're on

FROOGLE, regarding flashing yellow light under gear switch. It flashs to remind you that AUTOMATIC GEAR EXTEND IS OFF. On climbout move gear switch down one notch , that will activate Auto Gear Extend system. The yellow light will stop flashing. Now if you forget to extend gear for landing the airplane will extend it for you when you slow down to land. Safety feature on Arrow. And now you know, ya bugger.!

Well, my suggestion of pulling the breaker seems rather redundant now lol. I'm glad i read this comment. Consider me educated, thanks.

The navigation lights and radio lights are on the same rotary switch. From the off position, turn the switch until it clicks to switch the navigation lights on. Continue turning the switch to gradually brighten the radio lights (like the panel lights on the opposite side of the panel). The manual isn't helpful with this.
Other people have explained the automatic landing gear extension. The (v. 0.8.0) manual has information about it on pp. 13, 14 & 23.
Does Rex Weather Force plug in with MSFS well? The ATIS told you the sky condition was clear when it obviously wasn't, or was that an MSFS ATC bug? (The ATIS also said the wind was coming from 092, which the windsock @ 13:17 seemed to corroborate, but directed you to runway 20 - both runway directions would have given a large crosswind, but 02 would have had you heading more into the wind. The aircraft landing was using the correct runway if the ATIS wind diection and windsock were correct.)

Just a tip, you can do all the items on the checklist and then check them off. It's quicker that way and that's how it's done in real world aviation actually.

The Piper Aircraft Corporation introduced a Safety Landing Gear system called "Automatic Gear Extension System" with the "Override/Emergency Lever", that's the small Red Knob lever located next to the larger longer Flap lever between the Pilot and Pax seats. The Corporate Pilot Dad bests demonstrates and explains this in his short video using the Turbo Arrow. ruclips.net/video/QVISHP2Iaqo/видео.html
When the Automatic Gear Extension Red Knob lever is Up this means the Yellow Light "Auto Ext OFF" Blinks On and Off above the 3 Green Landing Gear lights. Thus meaning that the Landing Gear is in a Manual Override state and will NOT Automatically Lower the Landing Gear when Airspeed falls below 87Kts and when Power is reduced.
This is a "Piper Aircraft" designed Safety feature, just in-case a Pilot gets distracted and forgets to select the Landing Gear Lever to Down when doing a approach to Landing. The small Red Knob lever should be selected to the Midway Down position and the Yellow Light "Auto Ext OFF" remains steady. It's suggested usage: Put in Manual Override Up position for take off and practice stalls with gear Up stalling.
Place the small Red Knob lever to the Midway Down position once setup in cruise and for traffic pattern setup for the approach and landing. Having the "Auto Ext OFF" Blinking On and Off with the small Red Knob lever in the Override Up position should only be seen when doing a maximum glide, short field take offs and practice stalls with gear Up stalling. Or for an emergency Gear Up Landing situation like water ditching at sea.

You can edit your cruise altitude when creating a flight plan before loading the flight.

Hi Pete, Not procedure I know, but there is a breaker you can pull that gets rid of the landing gear annunciator lights, including the flashing light (Just remember to re-engage it before dropping your gear to verify deployment)

Boost pumps are turned off after startup until the ground check, where it stays on until after take off when you complete your climb checklist. So no it's not normal but it doesn't hurt anything it's just not necessary especially since most arrows are fuel injected.

Also to avoid the issue you have with taxiing I suggest seeing the rpm 1000 and leaving it there, applying necessary braking to slow down, sometimes you may have to reduce the power first but generally you can just set it to 1000RPM, if not 1000RPM then try 1200RPM.
