You often hear the stories and myths of martial arts masters, and founders, who transcend the physical aspects of martial arts to the spiritual or even metaphysical. I think what I'm hearing from Rickson Gracie is about as close as it comes to witnessing this from a man who went from fiery fighter to a mentor and even spiritual leader of jiu-jitsu.
Thinking and practicing jiu-jitsu in a way to fulfill your life rather than to fill your shelf with trophies and medals. Jiu-jitsu where the outcome of winning and losing is less important than learning something about yourself and leading a positive life.
Rickson Gracie is right in that image of BJJ as a "win or lose" sport, and many schools and academies are guilty of pushing that aspect, is what holds a lot of people back from either taking up or continuing with jiu-jitsu because most people are naturally averse to pain, discomfort, losing, and adversity.
But it is still a difficult obstacle to be able reframe that way of thinking to not care about the outcome of a roll or competition and to lose that overly competitive ego and mentality which often gets in the way of moving forward.

Jiu jitsu takes a lot from from Brazilians, physically. Very few of them are anything but a healthy/strong/fit physique after 45 or after 20 years of BJJ. They either look like bow legged women with saggy skin that used to have muscles. Instead they end up with muscle-less bodies and are early geriatrics. Don’t fall for the Gracie Hype. The clan leads a pseudo religion for those who are weak spiritually and fills the void with Godless values. Heaven is the real prize and it is not earned, it is by grace. Jesus is the way. Not BJJ.

Maybe with Ryab in TX, my home state. Last time I saw you was about the time Rockson passed away in Pacific Palisades. What a loss. I remember the Pico days were the best brother. We were all in our prime then huh. Today too many Gracie Bajas who focus too much on Tournament techniques for my preference. Was sooo glad to see Rickson lay out this new agenda with the federation. Based on the original 1967-1968 criteria, Craig could’ve been 8th degree, but I think he no longer teaches. Richard got awarded the black belt TWICE. Once by Master Fabio Santos, and again later by GM Rorion. Not sure how many years ago he was first awarded it. Also not sure if the timeline for his promos are on Fabio’s timeline (JJGF), or Rorion’s.

Why do bjj players give these life speeches, Kickboxers and boxers never do this. Nobody watches these matches. Audience of 5 who do themselves bjj.

Because it's a Japanese martial art being spoken by a North American. Like oil and water.

The Gracies are great story tellers. Where are they now? Answer hiding under a rock! You don't need to waste 8 years of your life learning Jiu-Jitsu but a a few moths neutralizing it. :)) The story that Jiu-Jitsu would work for the skinny guy was a nice story.
All the Gracies are not competing in the UFC, why because they've lost many times. They were humiliated by Sakuraba in Japan too.
They always look for an excuse.
And my friends they Gracies surrendered to Sakuraba, they threw the towel. By the way, the first UFC followed special rules imposed by Rorion that favor Royce. Royce used illegal drugs and he was defefead many times. The myth was over. Jiu-Jitsu can NOT win in the UFC, look at the statistics.
The Gracies do NOT compete in Vale Tudo nor in the UFC because Jiu-Jitsu alone is not enough. They got their ass kicked.

This is almost a perfectly written by someone who is a functioning idiot. This is like saying Buakaw or Sanchaei are not great martial artists because they only know Muay Thai and never learned how to dry hump another dude like every UFC match turns into. Enjoy your stupidity.
