Here in Chicago, there is still an annual debutant ball in the Polish American community held in the opulent ballroom of the old Conrad Hilton Hotel. It is open to all girls of Polish heritage and the proceeds go towards charity. It is an extraordinary ball in the old traditional sense that started in the 1930’s.
Here is San Antonio, the Coronation of the Queen of Fiesta (started in 1909) by the Order of the Alamo is the debutante "ball" for the "monied class" of the city in conjunction with Fiesta Week. The Queen has a "court" including debutantes from all over Texas, the US, and Mexico. It is the only debutante ball in which the participants' dresses (following a theme) are hand-sewn by a large group of seamstresses and can cost up to $60,000 each.
Julie, you constantly amaze me with your boundless enthusiasm, genuine curiosity to gain knowledge of so much of our valuable British history, and further create innovative forms of income to continuously support Luke and his family’s beautiful Mapperton ❤
Hello Julie, thank you for this wonderful video. I wish time travel would be possible just to spend one night at an event like this. Greetings from a small ice cold Chicago suburb. 😊
I enjoyed this video, i like the comparison with the American high society ball of the time. This small number of the rich living comfortably, is a stark contrast of the millions of poor living in squalid conditions with mold and filth around them. People like Henry Mayhew and Jack London an American would dress in clothes similar to what the poor wore, and would mingle with them, and write article's in the newspapers about what they saw. I find both the rich and poor from this time period interesting. Thanks for your time presenting this. G-d bless.

That sounds so lovely! Glad to hear some girls still have this opportunity.
