2:09 - 2:36 🤯🤯🤯. Good JESUS !!! Makes it more impressive that he straight picks everything 98% of the time instead of hammer ons and pull offs !!! this performance is awesome!!!
SilvioManfredDante85 How is that? It’s a completely different type of music? And, you are also 100% wrong. He sang a song about drugs at the Opry, and they only recently started allowing that. He is part of a movement that is mixing old and new musical styles. Actually changing the music that is being recorded. SRV on the other hand was an incredible guitarist, he wasn’t about changing the whole scene. Also, Stevie like many other rock and roll guitarists, admitted numerous times that he couldn’t play country guitar. Both old school flat picking and finger picking were above his talent. I am a huge SRV fan, but I’m not an idiot who thinks that one type of music is everything. And although he was very good at what he did, there were reasons he didn’t play other types of music. He picked the one where he could excel. If he had not died young, who knows what he could have done. But we will never know now.
Adam R “he wasn’t about changing the whole scene.” That statement is 100% wrong. SRV single handily brought back the blues in the heyday of 80’s hair band rock. However, I agree Billy Strings is amazing.
I seen the original dust in a baggie video years ago and started following Billy a bit, and then out of nowhere he’s on Theo’s podcast the other day. I forgot Tucker had mentioned him on there!

Could you imagine being Dustin Lynch or another joke the Opry has made members lately, hearing this, and having to go on stage after these guys? I would run.
This whole performance is bluegrass perfection. The songwriting, each musician’s part, and the recording. To me, it’s better than the other recordings out there. I love how the bass player slowly drops down at the end of Billy’s solo, dropping right back to the chorus. Perfection on all levels.
Another cool part is right at 2:21 during Billy’s break. I think it’s the mandolin adding a chord in between his chops that sort of sounds like a truck horn. I don’t think it’s coming from the guitar or banjo but it really adds a nice touch.
@@Sam-et3ve Bluegrass was inspired buy the blues it was Bill Monroe's take on the music of a local blue player where he grew up.it took me awhile to hear it myself different keys same chord progression still pentatonic scale
@@mbsnyderc partly that and partly the music from Ireland,Scotland, and England that the settlers brought with them. Bill Munroe has discussed it many a time.
Bluegrass came from old time mountain (Appalachian) music which came from Ireland and Scotland. Almost all of the early bluegrass songs were a Monroe spin on mountain ballads that if you look you can find earlier Irish/Scottish versions of the lyrics and melodies.

@@JV-df9emI was thinking that same thing that microphone plus he's rocking out doing it
All the rest of them are underrated. He has a great band behind him.
@crocodilegrundee4514 Oh yeah 100%. There's a lot of talent there on that stage
John Paul Jones can play a mean mandolin, too.
Tucker sent me.
Yawn.
2:09 - 2:36 🤯🤯🤯. Good JESUS !!! Makes it more impressive that he straight picks everything 98% of the time instead of hammer ons and pull offs !!! this performance is awesome!!!
Theo von and Tucker Carlson brought me here from an interview..lol
Me too!
Old people clapping for "Dust in a Baggy". lol. Yea!!!!
Pretty sure the Opry was empty due to COVID.
Billy Strings is the Stevie Ray Vaughan of Bluegrass.
Sounds a lot like Travis Tritt, too.
Dean Smith Not really. He is good, and getting better. Let’s see if he can catch up with old Norman Blake.
Oh, please! He is not, nor will he ever be even half as good or half as important to music as SRV.
Adam R “he wasn’t about changing the whole scene.”
That statement is 100% wrong. SRV single handily brought back the blues in the heyday of 80’s hair band rock. However, I agree Billy Strings is amazing.
Believe it or not, Tucker Carlson recommended this on the Theo Von podcast. What a strange world we live in lol.
I testify to this
I seen the original dust in a baggie video years ago and started following Billy a bit, and then out of nowhere he’s on Theo’s podcast the other day. I forgot Tucker had mentioned him on there!
Billy Strings mentioned this himself on Theo Von
Best thing I've heard in a while. Dude's an old soul.
@Billy Strings Hey, Billy! We saw you in Oshkosh last Saturday night. My wife and I are almost seventy years old and have had the pleasure to see almost every big name rock band out there. We want you to know that you blew us away with your show. We can't remember a better concert. You have two new diehard fans!! We are spreading the word about you and your excellent band mates. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Fans for life ✌️❤️
I like the solo version on the couch ...but this is pretty cool since it's at the Opry!
That was 2012...
It's much better
On the couch he played all the stringed instruments...
I even liked the contrast of his clean cut look on the couch and he is singing about drugs.
Naw this dude goes off on that couch...
if angus young ever needs someone to play him in a film....here he is.
Could you imagine being Dustin Lynch or another joke the Opry has made members lately, hearing this, and having to go on stage after these guys? I would run.
I still think the couch version is the best!
Absolutely. Can't beat it!
Slack no doubt
couch version seems more virtuos
This whole performance is bluegrass perfection. The songwriting, each musician’s part, and the recording. To me, it’s better than the other recordings out there. I love how the bass player slowly drops down at the end of Billy’s solo, dropping right back to the chorus. Perfection on all levels.
Another cool part is right at 2:21 during Billy’s break. I think it’s the mandolin adding a chord in between his chops that sort of sounds like a truck horn. I don’t think it’s coming from the guitar or banjo but it really adds a nice touch.
Wait. It is coming from the guitar. It happens again around 2:29.
Hippies and bluegrass the best combo
No hippies ruin everything they touch. Hicks and bluegrass are the best combo.

I'm a cargo pilot from Talos 3 in the Lasan Galaxy, usually listen to static from the navacomputer, but this is smoking good music.
He was also great in Home Alone
Lol
The Pizza Underground band also.

Haha that's funny
Keep the change, ya filthy animal!
This is American music,Period.
what is the blues then?
the dust or the reality
I love the way Billy has made bluegrass relevant to another generation and their experiences. Any one familiar with the hills and hollers of middle America today knows how meth is the new moonshine and this really speaks to that generation.
