It's funny that everyone makes analog equipment these days except for Roland (& Yamaha).
I wish yamaha will do an updated su700
Thats because its been done to "Death"...its a fad!....all Behringer does is copy other companies old stuff!
Roland System-500. Roland SE-O2.
@@justaname1862 well yea its a copy or clone. What ever you wanna call it but can you find a roland tr808 for less than $2000. I don't think so. The rd-8 sounds great for what it is. a price tag of $299 And it has better features than a true tr808. Behringer have really stepped up their game with these drum machines. I can't wait to get my hands on one. Gonna get the rd-9 also. They're coming out close to the end of the year. Should be around late September.
@@Fireblaze15 Well, Studio Electronics made it for them.
The 808 vibe with the "Arturia" workflow? Yes please and thrice on Sunday
Craig_M Arturia spark is beast mode, I gave two sparks and a beatstep!
I love that he uses Electro Beats for these videos it's the one reason I want this machine.
It kind of makes me miss the days when Chris Carter was doing gear reviews.
The only reason this exists is because Roland won't make it. I don't feel the slightest bit bad that Behringer saw the demand and moved on it. Roland could have been making these for almost 40 years now and didn't.
The original Roland 808 used defective transistors to generate its unique sound. As the semiconductor industry got better the defective transistors ceased to exist. Of course there are probably ways around it but just thought I would share some history :)
@@LoneWolfDion Behringer has a lot of experience doing defective gear xD
And because of that Roland 808 is so overpriced.
I’d like to see a video where someone compares this agains Roland tr-08, but then also with some sort of analog distortion plugin on the tr-08. The outputs are cool on this but the usb out is super convenient on rolands. I feel like you could run it through something like kazrogs true iron and get close, but I’m speculating.
Roland has said publicly in a documentary that I watched that they never like to do the same thing twice. They would always rather make something new, even if it is not as popular, then put out the same stuff over and over. This is why I feel they did not re-issue and 808 or a 909 until the TR eight came out, with its many improvements in terms of workflow and USB audio streaming.
I love that fact that these guys are happy like kids, when they interract with any music stuff=))
Behringer has the perfect business plan: Take all the old stuff we love and make it again.
@Boofsquad I think the reason they are good at producing remakes is because behringer were the company who factory produced the originals back in the day, so they had the plans anyway. And the patent has run after 30 40 years. The fact that the originals are so expensive now, I quite favour behringers clone approach now as it gives the next generation a chance to use it without having to be rich to do it.
That was great. Loving your passion, Gaz!
Love to see these fellas geek out. Great stuff as usual.
This specific pattern at 12:42 is one of the most famous patterns! It's Juan Atkin's, under his Cybotron moniker. This song is called Clear. It's one of the songs credited as a precursor to Detroit Techno. We were listening to this in high school, right before techno was born in Detroit.
-oh, he knows the old school stuff...
SHIT, ITS KENNY LARKIN!
How dope is it to have Kenny Larkin comment🤯
I love the fact it was an Electro classic in the streetsounds electro series also!
12:25 Putting on Gabba techno for background music at Xmas and then being told to rein it in by your dad
"Son! I told you before, cool it with the Aphex Twin while the family is over!!"
Great deep dive, guys. Thanks for studying up for this demo. Well done.
Very nice and presentation showing sound and features, thanks! This will be a hit.
If Behringer only did the LinnDrum!!!
LuddyVonBeat they are
Oh just wait for it. They will!
@@The_Invisible_Man Update me please , what more do you know invisible ?
They are making a Lin. Drum it will be out nexonth
Thanks guys,my wife walked in on me watching this and said"thats neat, you should get one of those" damn that was an easy one.... hope if that cs80 clone comes out she'll have the same response
It's a either a trick or she bought something...lol
The RD Kick turns my monitor into a powerful fan.
I'm impressed. Great performance features, nice build, they nailed the sounds. My original 808 is looking at me weird...
😭😭😭
This is by far the best idea Behringer had so far. Look the products that Roland is putting out in the market, with no vision behind it, no new ideas, no inspiration. They can't even hold up to their legacy products. And here comes Behringer to take their legendary 808 to the next step. Shame on Roland, well done Behringer, you got my respect today.
I'm convinced Roland is just a big think tank that takes zero input from customers
Was expecting the Behringer Pro One clone under the grey cloth... great demo!
More outro jams!!!
Sweet! I am on vacation and this popped up on my feed! It is going to be a great summer!
14:27 “So you can really start to OOH!” ... someone please remix this!! 🔥🔥🔥
brilliant sample hahaha
Loved that bit
"Suck and Pump"
I love this! And I love it even more with the two of you Nick and Gaz! Thanks for devoting so much time to it
I love a Gaz review and Nick being there to keep him on task makes it better
got me a RD-8, great machine, thanks guys :)
Oh Jesus - Imna need this! Thanks Nick & Gaz!
I love it when Gaz stops by to visit Mr Batt.
G.A.S. Williams
You guys are absolute gems and legends. What a delight! I’d watch you guys review anything.
OK, sounds great. Now who wants to start a Drexciya tribute band with me?
me
You know what the f you are talking about ;)
Count me in :D
Band name - Wavejumpers
If you where a nice girl Id start a Drexciyan coverband with ya :)
I love the enthusiasm from these 2 guys for this machine :)
I would love to have a "built like a tank" option for all behringer gear, where you can just pay 20% on top and get tank quality for the knobs, case etc ;-)
Siedepunkt The Neutron is built to last . . .
Yes please
got the d and the neutron and they are "built like a tank"
Tank version baby 🔊
Yeah, there could be limited "Tank" series. I'm in.
15:42 Filter sweep concentration faces
Zach Ahahahahahaha cracked me up
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao
spot on hilarious
Got mine ordered 👍🏻 (Finally). Expected shipping date November 2019
Keep up .... beat you to it! Wonder if mine will be S/N 000001 ? Yours Thomann too? i.e first stock, air freighted in to Europe - end Sept ..! 😎🍻👍
Couldn’t stop cracking up watching these guys together. Please do more duo reviews!
The RD-8 sounds awesome!!!! love the features!!! can't wait to get one!!
Really Enjoyed that. Just ordered a mk.ll so was having a research pre delivery!!
Ive got a mental picture in my head of Nick having Gaz's hair, oh dear haha. gaz is such a lovely bloke he really is.
N-N-N-Nineteen was the first pattern. I had fun programming that when I had an 808 back in the 80's.
And it will now be used in 100,000 new hip hop jams
morenazo952 Consumers won’t care, but the fact that musicians have a new inspiring piece of gear in their physical hands will spawn a new wave of music with 808 sounds
Most modern producers dont even know that those sounds they're using originated from an actual drum machine, they just think '808' is synonymous with 'heavy bass drum'
@@jeevesdfector3686 Jeeves DFector this is true I'm a producer and know the 808 comes from a drum machine but most of the time I forget that it came from a drum machine because I never see the drum machine.Drums just become sounds and names when you use a daw. There is a detachment from the old equipment the sounds originated from.
@@trevor4835 Make your point without being some shitty homophobic edge Lord.
modern hip hop sounds have changed alot
Two lovely nerds and a drum machine! ♥️
Just ordered it a week ago and cannot wait for Thomann to finally ship!!!
First thing I am going to do is take it apart to reverse the trigger buttons...
5:16 "The other thing we should say about the clap..." I love how Gaz starts to laugh.
It is good to see that I was not the only one to catch that.
@ 7:52 was "19" by Paul Hardcastle and at 8:08 and 12:30 (nicely timed) was "CLEAR" by Cybotron
marctronixx I think 8:08 was Marvin Gaye sexual healing
@@domorewithsage no sir with all due respect that is cybotron. :)
@@domorewithsage at 8:15 is sexual healing. 😊
Cant wait till they release it! Literally dying for one of these hahah
Cybotron - Clear pattern :D
When I get one, I wanna take it apart and switch the color scheme back. Might be easy.
love gaz what a cheerful bloke!
honestly this thing looks and sounds great
It's time.. it's time to make a modern LinnDrum / LM 1/2
please please please, but not samples of the samples, the actual binaries a'la Vprom, just make it both with swappable "eproms" maybe even throw in Linn 9000 binaries in there too.
Hw vprom, hell yeah!!!
I’m pretty sure Behringer confirmed they were making a LinnDrum reissue.
@@Ancaja123 yeah static samples can't compare with the genius of the Linn. Every hit on it has a slightly different feel and waveform. In a way it was organic
@@HotStrange I don't think they did. a video made it seem like they were but they said that wasn't true. I wonder if the waveforms/binaries are copywritten
You Guys should invite the 808 KING: Egyptian Lover on in the next installment to put this thing through the paces and to talk shop.
when nick started dancing to the beat 😂
lovely vid guys.
i love the sync outs and return loop! wish the RD-9 would be coming first though :)
Me too.. Im more interested in the 909
Or both at the same time to dilute the orders a little bit.
End of the year or early next year
*"whooooo.... aaaahhhhhh.... hhhmmmmmm"*
Sonicstate's Behringer RD-8 review 2019
Quite funny to watch the clash of Nick's mild skepticism with Gaz's enthusiasm.
Yeah, that typical punchy sound of the original one is spot on ! Love it !
not even close
@@johnnyv673 hha i know sounds nothing like a real 808
Love this review. Couple of guys who genuinely love music and gear. If I could suggest anything it would be slightly change the format of the show and have them in a pub like setting while reviewing the stuff haha. Just make ya want hang out with them.
I CANT WAIT TO BUY THIS
@14.27 min 😍 Thanks guys and thanks behringer, this is a fantasy that went reality 😁 The hats is SICK 😎
Wish they would do a cr78.
Yes! It had the best analogue drum sounds! Great for the silly stuff I like to make.
Maybe in a few years . . . Keep asking
Cyclone Analogic TT-78
And a LinnDrum
Yes please
At the end, old man are trippin:-D
Very good review.
Dankeschön!
I'd love the see more jamming from you two
I noticed they changed the hardware name to RD-8. I wonder if that was to avoid legal issues. Sounds good and looks super fun.
No way anyone could tell the difference between this and a TR when used in a track. Hell I can't hear the difference in this video. Plus MORE functionality. Better /easier programming. Build quality okay. $300 USD!?! Yes thank you. I'll take five.
Definitely coppin! 💪🏼
You know this is a winner at 15:52 when Nick and Gaz both go "ooohh!"
I suddenly got this feeling Behringer is going to make an Electribe !!
A fun one !!
I quite like my electribe 2 sampler tbh. It's limited, but it's very quick and intuitive to program. Combined with a beatstep pro and a single synth, you can get quite complex with it in just a few minutes. I am saving up for an MPC though, so yeah, it's too limited in the end, but still a fun little sampler to play around with.
gladtobeangry Actually the thing about classic Electribes is immediacy and fun: inspiration and getting things done quickly (well, just my opinion)
@@javiceres Well, the modern version doesn't disappoint in that respect. The 32mb RAM is just not enough for what I want to do with it, and the fx are a bit hit and miss. As a sketchpad/drummachine it's very quick, and easy to use. If you want to do more complex atmospheres/phrases/loopbased stuff, you run into limitations quickly.
@@gladtobeangry I see.
I love Nick and really like to watch him but he starts getting more and more annoying with too many interruptions. He should let people talk more.
so you should stop watching him (as I'll do now)
Brilliant sonicstate u guys are 👌👌
Basically, an analog drum starship in a little box. Dag, yo, that's some hot business with probability plus polymetric programming per part to n/64 steps. Basically you can put a whole track into a single pattern that will come out different every time you perform it. If this can send out midi note on/off and such, that alone makes it one of the coolest pattern sequencers for drums available, and definitely the best at this price.
ha, loving Gaz's Swap Shop t-shirt :-)
@Fluffy Bunnykins and me, and the fact I remember the name of their dinosaur, Posh Paws, which is Swap Shop spelled backwards...almost.
@@daveydixon1363 Wow, never knew it spelt that backwards...I was only very young then and not that smart 😅
This is more robust than i realized. And i'm glad they didn't skimp on pattern memory. Really cool. Can't wait until the RD-9!
Behringer is coming up with so many amazing things. Bringing back the past......
Sounds pretty great!
waiting for Behringer version of the LM-1
the first 3 seconds of this video is all you need to know
"I do like your acid rock"
What did he mean by that
Well, actually the first 20 seconds, just to know that the name changed from RD-808 to RD-8 (probably because of copyrights from Roland, who are too dumb to have proposed a clone of their analog TR-808 machine on their own before Behringer did it).
@@RookieWeedalogist Not sure, but that beat is the outro of Planet Rock
AlainHubert roland tr-08 was first actually
A tunable 808 kick!? I'm sold.
The first two and a half minutes here felt like there was a Roland lawyer sitting just off camera :)
Great overview/demo. The sub in my room here was really moving.
Hah. One never quite knows what to say in these situations...
Yeah that sub 80hz is pretty massive on this
Played one back in January at a Behringer event where they had playable 808 (now RD8) SH1, VC340 and odyssey clones. Not really clones, all had modern improvements and some nice extra features. Solid pieces of gear, all sounded good to me. Had a couple of built 909s (probably now BD-9s) there too, full sized, but not playable yet.
Honest to God I still love my Roland TR-8
Sure, why not. Sounds fantastic, and it's a great modern take on a performance drum machine.
@@st0rmchild i just got the Roland Fantom 6 and it is also pretty good but the TR-8 still has better kick in my opinion unless there is a way to turn up decay on the Fantom
real honest informative explanation
I'M FED UP WITH THE WAIT ALREADY ! WAKE ME UP WHEN BEHRINGER START TO DISTRIBUTE THEM
they're stock piling the shit out of these things
You might wanna call it polymetric but the LCD begs to differ!
Nick: That’s what you programmed?
Gaz: yes.
Nick: 😳
Can’t wait!
The 808 boogie! I like that. I think I've got it as well.
"Very soon" in Behringer language means "in a year or so".
But, better to take the time to get it right than rush it and have it turn out not so great. I plan on getting one whenever they're available.
Them results tho!
This looks great, Ive never seen an 808 in real life but I bought an Akai Tomcat a few years ago and love it so much. Simple drum machines that do just what they say on the tin are my favorites.
Shhh tell no one about the tommy; they're secret weapons. Some serious clang and oomph.
Great show to Nick and Gaz keep it coming :)
Loving the Swap Shop Teeshirt Gaz 👍
Incredible chemistry on the screen.Drum machine is impressive tho.
cant wait for this! Finally my dreams come true. Behringer will get all my money for the next 2-3 years i guess..
the two guys demonstrating the drum machine here don't look like people from any of the genres of music that liked the 808…………….…………………………………………………………….they look like classic rockers who listen to Foghat……………………………………………………………………………………………..who are these people?
you have a great channel from one Panorama80 lover to another...………………………………………………………………………………..is there a better new wave radio station?
lol watching you guys try to stay focused and not be inspired is so great. like a polite abbot and costello. more gaz and the other guy ;) !
sounds awesome
First pattern was 19 Paul Hardcastle?
Awesome review! Maybe we can open it up and move those colored "chicklet" button covers around and give it it's real TR-808 look.. I know I will if possible! A++++++++++++++++
Of course that is possible. :)
Definitely want one. Some great features packed in there.
top notch review
The boutique’s outputs over usb feature will NOT WORK 5 years from now!!
Behringer NAILED this.
Explain?
esquilax-Timeless hardware doesn’t rely on computer support. MicroUSB that’s on the Boutiques is on its way out.
@@almightyEsquilax Windows drivers
I agree and that's why I bought the drumbrute impact
I do want some solid information about that !
Behringer are basically printing money form themselves. This thing will constantly be out of stock from demand.
@sonicstate regarding the clap, you're kind of right - it does trigger from power on, but the first couple of times without the reverb part. I only know this because the Yocto 808 clone I built is identical (Voicewise, at least) right down to that odd clap behaviour.
this is dope. instant buy
