  • In this orchestra rehearsal, Maestro Jordi Savall conducts the Freixenet Chamber Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School performing one of the dances from Purcell's The Fairy Queen. This masterclass took place at the Reina Sofía School of Music, November 2006.
Students: Orquesta de Cámara Freixenet de la Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía
Venue: Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid) 11/11/2006
    H. Purcell: The Fairy Queen Z 629 (version for orchestra, string and harpsichord part) - Act III. Dance of the Haymakers
    Abstract:
Jordi Savall comments with the orchestra that the fast part should not be anticipated in intensity the first time. He speaks of rhythmic rapport that the character of dance demands, and that feels the same way every time new instruments play. In addition, it is necessary to make contrasts and dynamics more noticeable. They also work different articulations in the strings.
