My wife and I saw them in Seattle at the Moore Theater on July 24, 1974 (don't you love Google?). Fabulous, of course. I distinctly remember at one point the violinist (pretty sure it was Peter Knight) played a solo piece and kept repeating it at faster and faster speed. It got crazy. And then, when i thought that had to be it, he did one more round. It was amazing! I remember a big laugh just came out of me. Everything they did was great. Seeing them live was magical. That was 49 years ago, and it's still a special memory.
Few bands have brought me as much joy, passion and tears as this band. It shakes my soul as a connection to humanity through the ages! Thanks for uploading these gold nuggets!
Saw them several times when they came to the Sheffield City Hall back in the day. Wonderful concerts. Last saw them in 2015 with their current line up. Still great, but not the classic Steeleye Span.
@@patricias5122 I don't think so at all. That's what folk singers do. She can her her own voice clearly, and also hear the band clearly with her other ear. Verity Truman always used to do this too.
@@Meandgenevieve It's what folksingers (and all singers) do when they can't hear themselves well enough. You'll notice that as the song progresses she is covering BOTH ears. You can always hear your own voice through the reverberations in your head, and she's trying to block out as much of the band sound as possible It's not so much that the band is too loud as that the vocals are mixed too low by the sound people, both in the monitors and in the main mix. She's having trouble even in the beginning, when the band is fairly laid-back, but as they build the volume, she's really struggling. She's a pro and can pull it off, but the performance was somewhat marred by this, IMO.
One of the most beautiful voices in the world.
One of the greats.
Maybe my favorite...
Maddie's voice is just unbelievable, have followed SS since the early 70's, went to see them at the Royal, Nottingham, fond memories.

Amazing masterpiece from the summer of my years.

Beautiful - never seen this live - magical 🙂
2023 and still soooo gooood........
I'm revisiting one of my favorite bands ever. Just watching how she forms the words in the song is enough to raise goosebumps.
One of my all time favourites
Great song. Wish I could have seen this lineup.

Their arrangements were always so creative as evidenced by this beautiful track.
They are too loud though; Maddy can’t hear herself singing. Has to keep one ear covered, obscuring her gorgeous voice

@@Meandgenevieve Agreed! This is common practice among a lot of folk singers.
