Wow, this is a time machine, when my love for base ball was new. What a incredible game baseball is. My memories of listening to ball games on the radio are magical. I found and followed my bliss.
I listen to these radio shows because they remind me of my dad. He's passed away now, but in my mind I can still see him sitting in his favorite chair on our screened-in back porch listening to his RCA Victor transistor radio.
We had a screened in back porch as well and that's where my dad and I listened to Marty and Joe during the summer. Listening to this game I can close my eyes and feel like I'm there again. Lost my dad to a brutal cancer in 2011 and I miss him every day. Thanks for recording, saving and uploading these Big Red Machine classics. Anything that makes me feel like I'm with my dad again is a good thing.
The beginning of the Big Red Machine's 41-9 Winning Span that led to their running away with the NL Western Division Flag, followed their 3-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and their memorable 7-game World Series with the Boston Red Sox, and their 1st of back-to-back World Championships. Need more Big Red Machine radio games, c. 1970-76, please! :-)
Reds were 20-20 at this point in the season at game time. They went on to win 88 and lose 34 of their remaining games. This was very shortly after they asked Rose to play 3b (he had never played the position before) so they could get Foster into the lineup and send John Vukovich (great glove, no hit infielder) to the minors. Pivotal game though it may not have seemed so at the time
This started a streak where they won 41 of 50 games. You can tell that it was in the early days of the move of Rose from left field to third base when George Foster was batting 8th.

Seaver and three hitting in a row for the Reds, Morgan, Bench and Perez. Of course, Rose would have been if he hadn't had his gambling issue. Concepcion was close to a HOFer and so was Rusty Staub. Both teams had HOFers managing Sparky Anderson and Yogi Berra (as a player). Joe Torre is playing in the game and he is in the HOF as a manager and his career wasn't far from HOF caliber. One of the best ever, Willie Mays, was a coach for the Mets in 1975 and of course Big Klu (coaching for the Reds in 75) was destined for Cooperstown until his back issues arose.
Very well done except somebody had to do the high scream on free-EEEE. The best I ever heard was a guy in San Diego in 1987 or 88 when the Reds played there. Absolutely phenomenal, knocked my sox off. I have no idea who it was. Next night it was somebody else. If I had known, I would have gotten the tape recorder out. He also improvised a high note, but it was on BRAVE. More like bra-HAVE!! Holy shit that was good. Until I heard that, I was one of those people who thought the National Anthem should be changed. I never thought that again. But would give a lot to hear that one again. Don't know the date, only that it was in San Diego in the late 80s.
The 1975 Reds experienced one of the greatest turnarounds anybody ever did. While the 72 team turned around early, and the 70 team fizzled late, the 75 tearm early on got swept in a 4-game series by the Dodgers, a few weeks later got swept in a 4 game series by the Phillies. If the Reds had split those two series, their record for 1975 would have been 112-50. 108-54 was still pretty impressive. The 41- streak has probably been replicated more recently the way some teams have $dominated$. But the Reds did it when the game was still real. I always felt the 76 team could have won even more, but they were so dominant, Sparky did not play the full Great Eight more than like a third of the time - and they still won 102 games, and then thrashed the postseason which has never been done since. Of course nowadays it takes more than 7 straight to sweep the post... probably have to play your own second place team again if not the damn third place team. A post sweep would take like 57 wins and playing all the way until Christmas...
This is only the fourth time that Sparky used the classic "Great 8" lineup. The third time was the night before. Sparky wouldn't use this lineup for another 19 games.

The Frisch's commercials are nostalgic. From a time when Frisch's didn't suck. Cincinnati stands by its institutions even when they suck. At least sometimes they come around and even make a Super Bowl. Frisch's... ain't coming back.
One more comment about Tom Seaver... Sparky coveted him badly. I heard him say more than once, that he was the best pitcher in the league at the time. Interesting that he thought so highly of a pitcher that the Reds beat more often than not. He eventually got his wish, but it was too little too late - they had already traded Tony Perez for Woody Fucking Fryman.

My Dad passed away in 2013 and we were probably listening to this game in 1975. My best friend, boy do I miss him. Thank you for sharing your memory.

It's a trip to hear them mention "1-75" and "6th and Walnut". It's my town 46 years ago. Great era of ⚾. Thx for bringing it back for us to enjoy!
