Daniel Jones was a Dave Gettleman guy. He was the one to reach for a subpar QB. Cannot believe he spent the #6 pick for Jones. And the year before using the 2nd overall pick on a RB (Saquan). When the Giants clearly needed a QB in a draft many people thought it was a good draft for QBs. Lamar was on the board and so was Josh Allen. Gettleman is and was a joke of a GM

Broncos fans know Drew Lock isn’t the solution. He is a tease, a qb tease. He has a good arm, he can run, he has bags of personality … but … he can’t process the game. He doesn’t have the head to play qb in the NFL. In Denver he spent two months watching film with Peyton Manning, trying to teach him how to read the field … didn’t work.

Motivate him to be relevant enough for himself to attract the next suitor while simultaneously using that motivation to continue the development of the team they’re setting up for the next person. Other than the injury clause in his deal, Daniel not staying beyond this season is the worst kept secret in the league for 2024.

We have very little evidence that the Giants are out on Jones. The media is out on him and many fans but just because the Giants were looking for Maye , doesn’t mean they are out on Jones. Everything in this is media speculation and not based on the team

Giants fan here. You’re either a part of the problem or the solution. It’s not true that the Giants have not tried to help DJ. They have invested heavily in the O-Line with draft capital and through Free-Agency with lackluster results. They have tried to surround him with weapons, Golladay, Barkley, Waller, Nabers, Robinson, Hyatt, and etc..Daboll and Kafka have attempted to tailor this offense to DJs strengths yet he continues to make mistake after mistake and play losing football. When are you and DJ Truthers going to realize that it’s just not the O-Line and maybe DJ has to be held accountable? Will it be season 7,8,9? 🤦♂️

I'm in the belief that Mara told Schoen that he wanted Jones as the QB and then Jones played well and won a playoff game and Schoen was forced to give Jones a contract that if truth be told Schoen would had preferred to draft, but in 2022 there was no QB worth drafting and in 23 they were picking 25th and this year the QB that they wanted was out of reach.
The Giants weren't really trying to get Drake Maye. If they were they would've offered way more. All of this narrative creation by media is silly, but the fans fall for it. "Janiel Dones" is the Giants QB per the owner John Mara, don't forget that. Nobody is taking his spot unless Mara gets tired of him.

You’re using hindsight. He passed for over 300 yards and 3 tds against Minnesota in a playoff game. In a year we were excepted to do absolutely nothing. To be fair they didn’t need to pay him as much as they did. They also could not let him walk after that season

Does anyone think Drake Maye is going to save a team like the Giants or the Patriots? Go and look at his record at UNC. 17-9. Those 9 losses came in his final 11 games of both seasons. He went 2-9 down the stretch of 2022 and 2023. Both seasons he failed to beat his intra state rival NC State. That's at a middling ACC school which is better known for it's basketball team. Meaning he had no pressure on him to win. None.
But he’s still better than Daniel Jones and Mac Jones. Drake Maye is better than the Joneses

Joe Schoen wanted Drake Maye if he could steal him or get him at a bargain price. Mike, You make sense. However, you are presuming that Daniel Jones will be bad in 2024. Is your opinion based solely upon 2023, when the Giants had the worst offensive line in the NFL, no big-time receivers, Saquon Barkley at less than 100%, and conflict among the coaching staff? What I dislike most about pro-sports, especially the NFL, is the fans and the media forget that the players are human beings: Daniel Jones is a human being. So is John Mara. John Mara sees the Giants' players as people first, which is the reason he meddles. By the way, he is an owner of the Giants: it is his asset and his money. He feels responsible for the situation that Daniel Jones finds himself: a. becoming a starter before he was ready; b. having three coaches in five years; c. having four offensive coordinators in five years; d. being pounded like rocks by chain-gang prisoners. Moreover, does it help Daniel Jones and the Giants that the media hates Daniel Jones more than it hates Donald Trump? Drake Maye hasn't taken a snap. Let's relax about how good he is.
Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones... All of these QBs are failed just 3 years in. Let's not get ahead of ourselves with declaring what these prospects haven't done. Nabers is a fantastic prospect and all anyone can talk about is these QB prospects. Nothing is guaranteed. If you look back at the 2021 draft all the skill and other positional players selected in the top 10 are doing REALLY REALLY well. I think the Giants did just fine.

I keep hearing this narrative. Mara made them sign DJ and will also fire them this year if it goes to hell. If it goes to hell because of DJ I feel like Mara is self aware to not do that. Mara is a good dude also. I know people who work in that building and some close with him. He's not a horrible owner. Just feels like everyone's trying to talk out of both sides of their mouth at once
This is just my feeling and opinion, but I feel that Schoen and Daboll's leash is MUCH longer than most casual fans think. Steve Tisch is running this operation at this moment, as he threatened John Mara at the end of Joe Judge's reign. Mara wanted to keep Judge and Gettleman for stability, but Tisch said to let them go and to look outside the organization, or Mara would lose Tisch's 50% stake in the Giants. Schoen and Daboll are under contract with Daniel Jones for one more year, then they will get their guy. THAT is when the clock starts on their regime pressure.

The Giants passed on 3 other 1st round QBs. All 3 were drafted in the top 12. Ownership still loves Jones even if the coaching staff doesn’t.
They were first round QBs because it was a QB desperate draft. It doesn’t mean that they’re 1st round level prospects. They tried to get their guy “Maye” but they couldn’t. Instead of getting a 2nd-3rd round level QB they opted for the BPA.

The Giants are one year removed from winning playoff game v Vikings & Daboll getting Coach of the Year. 2023 O-Line decimated by injuries. Still, could have easily been 9-8 (Rams, Jets, Bills).
To close out a difficult season, they stepped up and beat the tar out of the Eagles. With upgrades across the board, I expect Drew Lock to take over. He's better able to stretch the field and has matured on and off the field.
This season, I will enjoy watching a lot of NFL commentators eat a lot of crow, or Eagles, Falcons, Ravens or bird of choice. More hardware will be coming Big Blue's way.

New York was desperate and had the taste of a playoff win in its mouth when they thought they had no other choice than to pay Jones because they had no quarterback in line after him.
Daniel Jones does not deserve to be paid like Kirk Cousins for his one playoff win. Kirk was statistically always in the top 5 AFC quarterbacks until he got hurt last year.
Sometimes letting the coaches and gm's do their own thing they may result in them making questionable decisions like picking a qb in the first round that make fans and others scratch their heads or be angry. I remember when Ditka went all in for one player when coaching the Saints. omg... I think owners have to have a say despite the negative consequences they might bring. The sht must roll down the hill for anyone in the organization being a knucklehead. Unfortunately some owners are not competent and are not easily and quickly removed from their role to the detriment of the sport and their unfortunate fans. grumble grumble... If you asked the other 31 teams if they would swap their starting QB even up for DJ, I don't think you would get any takers.
I think DJ has to be better than the 22’ season to stay. Like gets them at minimum to an NFC championship game in order to stay on this team in the future. Cause of the injury clause in his contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if Locke “wins” the job before the season and DJ never sees the field .
I am sure NY fans are not shy about talking/yelling their opinions to the organization. lol With fans opinions about DJ cemented, which I am guessing they are, life will be tough for everyone there unless Jones has his best year.
I’ll add another layer to that. If he has similar stats to 2022 AND gets to the NFCCG he will still be cut bc 2022 was 100% Dabolls ability to utilize DJs running ability. He needs to literally play like a $47 million QB like top 8, for them to even consider not cutting him and even then they would still draft a QB next year for insurance. 2023 was Daboll slightly opening the playbook to prove a point to Mara that they shouldn’t have paid him that money or contract.
I’m a lifelong Giants fan. There is absolutely no way the Giants make the NFC championship game, and it has nothing to do with Jones. If you put Mahomes behind that OLine, which is not just horrible, but historically horrible, Mahomes would not be able to do anything. Watch the video of the OLine play from the games Jones played, as soon as he got the snap he had defenders in his face.

Daniel Jones. He of the 22-36-1 record. That's a lot of capital that he's earned. 62 TDs + 40 INTs. 13 TDs rushing + 46 Fumbles. 75 TDs total + 86 INTs/Fumbles. Daniel Jones is a subpar QB being paid like he is Patrick Mahomes.

I'd give DJ 6 games (holding my breath he doesn't get injured), I think coach/gm/owner gives him 8 - if there's not exceptional improvement from DJ by then, play Lock and sit Jones; can't afford him getting injured. After the run on QBs this year, not many will be trying to get a top one next off season

Whomever is the qb there, Giants need a good receiver and other good offensive players. Replacing one mediocre QB with another that you are not convinced about makes no sense if you have a top 10 pick. So I am with you. Good point.

I mean if the pats accepted their low ball effort , than ya they would have taken Maye , obviously , but they didn’t make much of an effort , and the fact that they didn’t take jj , Penix , or nix , all who other teams obviously felt were first round talents tells you more of what they think of Jones than making a half effort to move up .
