Seriously the ibanez GIO range has taken such a flight in the right direction the past 6 years it's crazy. And amazing. went from feeling budget metal to being metal on a budget.
@@TheGuitarGeek hows the neck feel on this model, I have an older version of the gio series and it feels too chunky and uncomfortable when playing, is this guitar like that at all?
I have the matte black 131ex. It's a very good guitar, especially for a beginner. Ibanez necks are so comfortable and the selling point for me was the reverse headstock. I'd recommend anyone these two guitars considering there price. Add a boss katana and you are set. Now is the time to play guitar considering how good affordable gear is nowadays.
I have the GRGR131EX-BKF as well. It's a fantastic guitar considering the price point. The all-black look is awesome and the guitar plays great. I plan on upgrading the pickups soon.
For a budget metal guitar they’ve really concentrated on the best bits. Things like hardware, wiring and pickups could be replaced if needs be but it looks solid and well built. It’s very nice too!
Budget metal! A great range of sounds from that 5 way. I really like how they gave a different than usual selection that better suits what would actually be used for metal
I've had this guitar for awhile now and love it. I'm not a beginner but got it cause I love Ibanez guitars. The color and as mentioned the reverse headstock sold me. Plus I use this guitar for practice at my apartment inbetween band practice and gigs I like to play this even over my more expensive Jacksons, or Schecter . Can't be beat. Great choice to demo!!!
I went to the guitar shop for a strap for my acoustic guitar. I came out with this GRGR221PA-AQB. It was on sale for $179.00 and I could NOT help myself, but to help myself to this beautiful guitar. GAAAHHH. For a Budget Metal guitar, you can't beat it with a stick amirite!?
I got into Budget metal, with an 2010 Ibanez Gio, if you think those pickups are bad the ibz2 will drive you crazy, I ended up swapping them with a les paul slash pickups because they looked good, I will love to get this new GIO, definitely worth buying
Holy moly- that’s some budget metal guitar Andy. I wish these were around when I was starting. I think it’s more important that it plays well and keeps tune starting out and this obviously does that.
Been looking at these the past few weeks. Do not need it as I’ve loads of high end equipment. But for the price it’s mental. Half decent set of pickups in it and still not a lot of money spent. By the way these are just back in stock now in Thomann and music store !
thanks ive jusst bought one of these guitars Ibanez GRG121DXL-WNF GIO i also watched henning review one and you both among others have said for the money its a great guitar,at xmas i bought a stratocaster from fenders mod shop which came with a fat e string too close to the edge of the fretboard ,got it fixed by fender thanfully any way i watched the video on the gio and im looking forward to opening my lefthanded version yours wayne budget metal
I have 2 Ibanez Gio's and absolutely love both. I have changed all the electronics to my preference, but the electronics it came with are not bad. The fit and finish on these guitars are a step above any guitars in this price range. The frets are level and polished out of the box. These are great modding platforms. i would not hesitate to buy another one.
budget metal! I have seen a few reviews of this guitar now and I think it might be my next purchase. I have a bit of a Jackson/Ibanez fetish so this will fit in my collection quite nicely. Well It is now three weeks after I made the original comment and I ended up getting the Ibanez GRG220PA1BKB. I wanted that blue top but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere near me. The one I got is still awesome though. ;)
I've been looking for a guitar to pick the art of Guitarery back up after 15 years. My heroes are Les Paul and EVH. So, minus the trem, I believe I found my bae bae. It has clean tones I think are better than most intermediate LP's. Very bright. Budget Metal, O'Doyle rules.
I hope Ibanez should really consider making more reverse headstock variations on their RGs and higher end guitars because it's not just beneficial for metal down tuning but the reverse headstock is also kinda very cool looking for metal shredding guitar and it is also the biggest reason why I got into their brand it's because how awesome looking their headstocks when it's reverse and I know some of you will probably say that "Yeah you'll probably just go for the solar guitars" hahaha I like Solars too because their guitars has reverse headstocks, but for me Ibanez had just perfect headstock shape for me not too pointy and not too curvy and body is just perfect for me and solar guitars is just too expensive for me they have no cheaper and affordable models so yeah this is just only my opinion, and I really hope in the future they would make a reverse headstock variations 😁
This seems like the perfect _budget metal_ guitar. I'm going for the stealth one, GRGR131EX-BKF (GRG Reverse 131 Experimental, Black Flat) cause the fretboard looks cleaner (gotta do a black spray paint on the back of the neck, get black plastic pickup covers) and it has lots more modding options 🤘great review btw!
I played one in a shop and found the neck to be more comfortable and player friendly than guitars that costs 3 times as much, including Yamaha Revstar, Epiphone SG, Sire Carlton S7 and a Charvel pro-mod…all of which i ordered, played and sent back! And I played all the budget import fenders and this Ibanez was much smoother and comfortable. But i am considering stripping the top down to its natural wood which for this price i am not so worried about. Like the video and your attitude!
Great guitar for budget metal. I don't owe this one but I owe the GRG121DX and pretty happy with this one, I guess it has the same pickups, an dI got this just because the one from the video wasn't available at the moment.
Thanks for the review. I have orderd this guitar - I have a epiphone sg, and while its a nice sounding guitar, its neck heavy, so it divides like a dolphin. Also the finish came off very fast, (it was sunburst red) and the wood is very soft. The body could easily be worn into and mark too easily, so i varnished it, it took me a month to do it. (8 coats of varnish with 0000 wire wool two days for each coat to dry). The frets were not filed smoothly and the turning sucks. I hope the one in the video is better - BUDGET METAL. The guitar was was giving me left hand problems and i was battling it, in others I had constantly move my left hand and my right repostion it, i got a very good strap and it help a bit but not enough.
For a Budget Metal guitar, you really can't lose with Ibanez. For beginners or anyone simply short on cash this is an easy choice and a great base for upgrades later.
Excellent review. Too many sleep on these affordable options but I see it like this. Get the bones and build the electrics , nut and tuners up. Being a hardtail helps alot.
So what's the most BRUTAL passive pickup upgrade ? I allready got active EMG's on my Schecter (which I love😍) which as evwryone knows are crazy wonderfull. She is a beauty for sure, kinda been thinking of gettin an older RG ibenez...
I got a used RGD370Z-WH for $375, I have it in C standard but throw it in drop A#. It absolutely rips and it won't go to the dump or rot in an attic and I have an absolutely great guitar with good specs for cheap. Check your local listings for good deals.
Very good video like all the info, I'm currently looking to get my daughter her first guitar but I'm stuck between the GRGR221PA-AQB and the GRG121SP-BMC, I think they're both very similar but the GRG121SP-BMC has a smoother neck but medium fret size rather than the GRGR221PA-AQB which has jumbo frets any advice would be very helpful :)

I will only say my opinion ..for all those who make a serious decision to learn to play this instrument, one thing is certain, every guitar produces a sound in accordance with its performance, and this is called the color of the sound, SO THERE IS NO GOOD COLOR OR BAD COLOR..THERE IS ONE THAT YOU LIKE....OR NOT, SO THERE IS NO GOOD OR BAD GUITAR?! ALL GUITARS ARE LIKE WOMEN, they suit some and some don't... with a good amplifier and a good processor, I use the AX3000G KORG on my recordings, you can get a good sound, let's say this Epiphone SL guitar.. or I use Flight (Slovenian manufacturer, shape Les Paul) I also use Ibanez Gio GRG 121, also Stagg shape Stratocaster, produced in 1995, they all sound great, depending on the purpose for which song I want to use them. All guitars has a great sound and with good parameters it can be used as a professional instrument , best regards from Edy ..and all the best in your future work
@@whimsicalwizardoh pretty good. My only gripe is it won't stay in tune. But then again my room never stays one temperature. I also use mammoth slinkys and tune to drop A B and C. Locking tuners helped. Other than that it's great. I really wanna try some high quality pickups though
Budget metal got me really with the optics. But I decided to go DI Marcio and bought the SEW 761 FM SEW. According to the specs on the Ibanez page both guitars have the same bridge. DO you have the same thing here witch the screws catching your hand while palm muting?
i tried good few ibanezes and all of them that had this type of fixed bridge had those sharp screws, ez fix is to take them out and sand them down a bit with sandpaper and put them back on, a lot better then
Here is the neck way too thick - compared to typical Ibanez models at higher price ranges. For a seasoned metal player that's an obstaclr, he will stumble over, for a beginner even more, as he will have to put more strain on his carpal tunnel, than necessary.

All guitars has a great sound and with good parameters it can be used as a professional instrument , best regards from Edy ..and all the best in your future work
What about tuning it to drop A or drop B tuning, would it be easy done without a whole lot of effort other than 11 or 12 gauge strings🤞
This guitar doesnt have a tremolo bar ?
I bought this guitar because of you. #Budget Metal
how is it after 10 months?
@@whimsicalwizardoh pretty good. My only gripe is it won't stay in tune. But then again my room never stays one temperature. I also use mammoth slinkys and tune to drop A B and C. Locking tuners helped. Other than that it's great. I really wanna try some high quality pickups though
@@ECSDVS sounds solid, i was thinking of switching to this ibanez from my low end yamaha by the end of the year. Thanks for the responce
The GRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGR is GRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGReat for budget metal, and all other metals! Might get the stealth one someday to mod it!
DOOOOO ITTTTTT!!!
i will buy this look's so nice
Budget metal got me really with the optics. But I decided to go DI Marcio and bought the SEW 761 FM SEW. According to the specs on the Ibanez page both guitars have the same bridge. DO you have the same thing here witch the screws catching your hand while palm muting?
i tried good few ibanezes and all of them that had this type of fixed bridge had those sharp screws, ez fix is to take them out and sand them down a bit with sandpaper and put them back on, a lot better then
very nice dude.
Budget Metaaaaaaaaal !!!💥💥💥💥
#budgetmetal - Great review. I love this inexpensive Ibanez as well!
Here is the neck way too thick - compared to typical Ibanez models at higher price ranges. For a seasoned metal player that's an obstaclr, he will stumble over, for a beginner even more, as he will have to put more strain on his carpal tunnel, than necessary.
I disagree. I prefer this to a wizard 3 neck on the standard range
Is it just me or does it look a bit short for some reason, is it shorter ?
hi, what would you recommend for a replacement the pickups? cheers! :) #budgetmetal
Sir i wanna ask, which one guitar ibanez rga42ex and ibanez grgr221pa best sound heavy and clean???
