  • In this video, I talk a little about completing runs and what a run can be to different people. Towards the end I go on a small rant.

    I have a full spectacular Spider-Man run , now working on FF 1-27 first then I broke it down 28-55etc... can get very costly BUT .... you never know when something will create a hot new issue to find .
    Good feeling if you have the run , when a book (unexpected)skyrockets !!
    Great video Reaper keep up the work 👍

      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад +1

      I agree, Scott. when you find out a book in your collecting is getting a lot of attention, its cool. It's also cool when you have a book because you really wanted it and then it doesn't matter if it goes up or down. Thanks for watching, my friend!

    Great video. I've thought about this subject a lot and I've concluded that it's a double edged sword, one in which you must pick your battles carefully. The main considerations, to me, are space and cost of books but desirability is another in case you wanna sell. The main run I'd like to complete is the Byrne X-Men one. Thanks for sharing!

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад +1

      Hey, Carl. I agree. It most certainly is a double-edged sword. Space is a concern for me too. i keep my books in a small room, since that is all I have. EC is a "run" I would like to complete one day, but that will take many, many years.

    Calmest rant ever! I guess I don't much think about definitions like runs. Although I use them often. I guess I think of runs by creators, like the Simonson Thor run. Good stuff

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад +1

      I am trying to be calmer nowadays, Patrick. Oh yeah. Creator runs are popular and can be considered runs for sure. Like McFarlane on Spiderman or Larsen on Spidey and so forth. I prefer getting those type of runs more than entire volumes.

    So true,, "don't be discouraged about not getting a deal" -or- "rush into getting a run", what I def learn from this hobby is patience is a virtue,,, just be patient..... I dont mind your rants and truly appreciate your honesty and straight forwardness. Never knew EC horror was a collection that was possible,, might have to look into that,, I just want one or two EC "high grade" comics and I'll be happy. EC and pre code are the same thing Anthony?.

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад

      Def, Richard. EC was precode. There were so many precode horror books out there besides EC. Sometimes, I think, EC gets all he credit but there were a lot of crazy-ass horror books out in the 50's. Patience is def a virtue, my friend. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. This is the one I have been curious about for a bit...and guess what? It's my bday. lol. Thanks for sharing my friend. I definitely agree about those D list characters. People flip out about who will be in the movies or tv and then a few weeks later the book isn't worth anything

      Hey, Ben. Some books are just good for flipping at the right moment. If you like the character and you can get the book on the cheap, then go for it. Other than that, I would not spend crazy money on some characters. Happy birthday!!

    I collect what I like to read or stuff I stumble into. I just bought a big collection full of generic stuff I like but found ROM 31 and 30 cent Tarzan. I like to do runs of things I like. The hunt is the best part. Great video sir.

    Another great vid! I’m putting together some runs (both complete series and specific books in a series). Gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I hunt them down haha. Also, I believe maximum carnage had 14 issues.

    For me reaper, the best part of complete volume collecting is that it's a slow burn. It keeps the hobby interesting, exciting and fun for me. I hope to be on this earth for at least another 40 yrs. I've got time. Thanks Reaper!

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад +1

      I think that is a good way to look at it, Mike. The slow burn, yet another great example of appreciating the aspect of collecting entire volumes. That is exciting. Thanks for watching, my friend.

    As always, great thoughts on the comic industry. I would recommend to collectors to go left when others are going right. Don't base your collections around what's popular. I started buying Daredevil back in 2005. Nobody cared about him, and I got his Silver Age books for pennies compared to what they are right now.

    Great video, just like the rest of your videos. My daughter and I are working on Batman Vol 1. Our desire is to get the 300's up in 9.8s. The old comics we will just have to see what we can afford. We know it is impossible for us to complete the run but it is fun.

      I don't think Jonah Hex is a D-list character. I just think there are certain characters that will never get into Harvard. I like Jonah Hex too.

    Top video mate, Great advice I've been thinking for a while of getting the Iron Fist 1 / 14 marvel prem 15 but ive been hesitant on pulling the trigger as I have this feeling iron fist wont ever be as popular as the top heros i.e. xmen/FF/Avengers etc so think I will wait for a couple years see how the market gos and maybe pickup a deal

  • @2hugebros241
    @2hugebros241 7 лет назад +1

    I used to think at one point a run would be cool... But when I decided to pull back and not do it it's because if I spend say 5-10k for say 20-30 books let's say that are not a "key issues" now can u use that 5-10k on a very special cool big issue? Yes... Let's say a ASM #1 or X-men #1. Now that's why I look at things differently and don't spend time on "runs"..it's easier one day to sell a ASM #1 4.0-5.0 then say FF 15-40.. But ASM #1-15,20 a run that has key issue that focuses on Ditko's work is something I'm working on just the Ditko big key issues is what i love.. But Detecitve key runs pre Robin lol I wish!!!!!! 😳

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад

      I agree. I like to focus on the bigger books instead of runs, more or less, because I need the money for those books. Pre Robin Detectives are very hard to collect, even at a low grade. Thanks for watching!

    Some D listers got upgraded and will stay up imo..like Ironman. And doc strange..but moonknight??? Don't see him going anywhere so sell ur wwbns lol..always go with a listers tho. And if u got a Batman 1 ur just the coolest! 😉

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад

      LOL. I agree, Vince. Batman #1 = cool. Dr. Strange and Moon Knight are def going up in value for sure. It's just that those characters, I feel, will never be seen as a Spiderman or Captain America, true A-listers in the Marvel family.

    • @DrVonChilla
      @DrVonChilla 7 лет назад +1

      Indeed, Vince.....Moon Knight prices are kept up by 1st appearance hype but also by the hardcore, deeply-devoted Moon Knight cult. I was just saying the other day, Moon Knight is to comics what the Grateful Dead is/was to live music..... :-)

    Iron Man, Moonknight, and Iron Fist is not worth the money the market is going and it’s ridiculous to see it so high in prices. Only run I would like to accomplish is m FF 1 - 100 and able to run 🏃‍♀️ 3 mile a day. Lol. Well said and hope you finish the uncanny xmen

    It sucks that the D-Listers command a premium, I used to have most of those issues when I sold my first collection cause I always had a place in my heart for those characters....now I can't justify spending that much on characters I enjoy lol

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад

  • @BatcaveComics83

    Great video Reaper, its funny I sometimes consider a run to be when the cover art changes dramatically, or the font style changes, moves or gets smaller. For example Daredevil 1 to 63 all have the same font, but from 64 it changes, so I would consider issues 1 to 63 to be a run, then Daredevil 64 to 165 would be another run, and then so on and so on. On the subject of characters, its Spider-Man, Batman and Superman all the way. Those characters are famous to everyone because of their success in the comics, whereas almost all other characters are famous because of the movies. I mean I wonder how much Hulk 181 would cost today if there had never had been an X-men movie?

    • @Reapertate728
      @Reapertate728  7 лет назад +1

      Hey, Russ. i think you are rights. Runs are different to many people. Artwork, following an artist, volume collections. You name it. I am willing to bet Wolverine would not be as popular as he is today if there were no Xmen movies. Despite that, he was always a popular Xman, even way back in the early 90's when there were no Xmen movies. His book was expensive back then, but nothing like it is today. Thanks for watching, buddy. Hope all is well!

    Another great video their Reaper. Those EC horror books are really expensive and hard-to-get if you want to ruin mid-grade like a 5.5 I'm also looking on to getting a couple of those right now right now myself. But I'm still working on finishing my Batman run from 100 to 719 I believe I'm missing about 80 books and there in the 400 series. Thanks again for the video I know I'm going to start collecting X-Men 2 don't have a lot of books of them though there's a couple key issues I want to get. But I want to get my Batman run done. And then maybe I'll go from 50 on the Batman and up don't know. Once you go below the hundred does Batman book start getting really expensive. Take care buddy Joker 68 out God bless Curt

      Gotcha, Russ, and I concur. My feeling is that ALL the A-listers have already been created and there's no chance in Hell for any others to break into it. Even some highly-significant characters (Silver Surfer, Wolverine, Punisher, Harley, Deadpool, etc) will ALWAYS be at most B-listers. The TRUE A-List of Superman - Batman - Spider-Man - FF - Hulk and very few others is all done with. No amount of hype or movie/TV appearances will make it otherwise. :-)

    Forgettable, regrettable and just plain disappointing characters; Growing up in the SilverAge I have to say To me Iron Man, Doc Strange, Sgt. Fury, Animal Man and Giant Man Were just that, Meh.... Same thing years later with truly disappointingly lame characters like Black Lightning, Luke Cage, Rom and others. I have all these titles and mostly complete because when I've see them in the wild over the years @ and below a couple of dollars I always picked them up. I even found and purchased all the so called "key's" on those latter titles for under 10.00 in high grade and I'm still finding them on the cheap! This may sound very hypocritical but I do enjoy, even love having them in my collection. I believe one possible reason why, is that I think of my comics as part of a huge reference library.
