I had a chance to chat with Laurel in 1965 when she was 23years old....She was the most friendly, happy, likeable person one could ever meet! On this night, she was full of life and the prettiest lady I have ever seen. I remember she was a very tall slim lady, that could have been a world class model! It is so very sad that Kevin Todd and her broke up, I thought they were perfect together. Laurel was taken much too soon! R.I.P. darling woman. xox
She is so sweet. I was about 11 when I used to watch her on tv. I used 2 go 2 the mirror and sing her songs. She always had such a pretty smile. When did she leave us?
Laurel Lee has such a great voice and just have to look at her too see how beautiful she was!! It's amazing how such talent wasn't a major star..... I hope she had a happy life! Love the music ..... and thought she did this song originally, but found out differently! Wish I knew more about her!
I haven’t heard this song since I was a kid wow the memories, time’s were more simple ,you didn’t have drive by shootings or all the mess we have today, respect was one of our top priorities, mom’s didn’t take crap from us ,we ate healthier foods, your neighbors were your second parents if you did something wrong they would bring you home to your parents by your ears oh yeah I remember those days, children could walk around and no one would bother them need I go on ,I’m a great-grandmother now but I still remember the era of the 50s and 60s.🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️👶🏼👵🏼
Often wondered what happened to the most beautiful shiela I ever laid eyes on. I know she married Kevin Todd, remember thing lucky bastard. Then was devestated when watch a dvd of a Long Way to the Top and saw her beautiful face come up when Col Joye sang rock and roll heaven. 64 and bloody cried. My late wife couldn't believe it. Me crying that is.
Such a stunningly beautiful woman with a crystal clear voice that siezes my heart. I found this clip by accident ... I did not know that The Essex did this song in America and stumbled upon this clip. How such a talented and vivacious woman avoided fame in America is beyond me. To all our friends in Australia, thank you for your musical contributions. You seem to improve our songs with sophesticated refinement.
This bland version of "Easier Said Than Done" is anything but an improvement. It merely mimics the original by The Essex. Yes, she's pretty, but female singers like this were a dime a dozen in that era.
If she is indeed your grandma you should be proud of her. She's very pretty and fortunate that she performed well on stage and made a lasting impression on people. :-)
Saxon ..she was beautiful ...a much loved person....a great singer and gentle and kind.....I remember her running off with Kevin Todd and it was a big scandal then...no one would blink an eye now... but he really love her...she was very sweet ...have happy memories of her
At one time in the sixties Laurel was divorcing Kevin Todd. She would sing "You better come home" every Saturday night on Bandstand. I never thought I could get so sick of a song.
Actually, "The Essex" is the original group who made this song. Laurel Lea here did great on this rendition, but the original group is much better. They're a group of black active duty Marines stationed in Nortg Carolina at the time and from Harrisburg PA. Singers name was Anita Humes.👏👍 look for the original version on RUclips.
actually the fact that silly songs like this actually topped our charts made me realize that popular teen music really hasn't changed to this day. True classics will always be made in every decade, just don't look to the Billboard Top 40 for all of them.
This is a good version, faithful to the original--except that I miss the held notes on the harmony for the word 'easierrrrr' that the Essex version has. It was a mistake to leave that bit out, because I think it was one of the things that made listeners like it so much.
@Shadowseeker66 Then I guess your Grandad was/is Kevin Todd? I remember when she married Kevin all of us young blokes back then were devestated, there went our dream girl. Hope you find out lots about her. Never met her, but symbolised evrything nice about Australia.
Lovely Lady...... Producer did not do Laurel any favours making her walk up and down that "step set" however she carried out the task professionally. Know the producer so will not dob him in. Australian Bandstand was not know for it studio sets. The folks at ATN7 were the masters at that time. Then came the 0 10 Network.... The Essex in the USA had the hit version.
SC Australian singers used to cover pop songs in the early days of television, singing them on network shows like "6 O'clock Rock", "Sing, Sing, Sing", and "Bandstand". Mostly they weren't rerecorded by the local artist, but the song needed to be on the charts to be chosen for performance.
Kylie Minogue is a Australian pop singer who has been around since the '80's. I sent you one of her earlier videos. I think there is a strong resemblance between Kylie and Ms. Lee.
Did not know anyone covered that song. Good Job!! Here is the Original and I was surprised to learn they were all Marines including the young Lady singing. Enjoy ruclips.net/video/wHB6muY-6WI/видео.html

indeed she was beautiful. and her voice makes me melt i hope she rests in peace
A great rendition on the Essex hit, i was madly in love with Larel back in the day.. yum !
This is a testament to thel influence of bands like the Essex

How rite u r I'm 70 h0w times have changed and say to sat not all of it for the better
Thanks for the memories of this wonderful singer and a time of when life seemed so much simpler. A gem of a clip.
Not corny, just typical for the time. I like it.
Lorraine was my friend such a beautiful girl inside and out 😢😢

lovely lyrics lots rhythm !!!!! beautiful lady with typical 60s hairspray hairdo love the backdrop twisting crowd
I remember seeing here coming out of Festival Hall in Brisbane and was gracious. I still have her autograph 40 yrs.

beautiful and talented girl..I loved her on Bandstand and read about her in the fan mags of the day...She seemed to be ahead of her time,,,,,
Ahead of her time? I can't imagine a female singer who embodies the show biz aesthetics of that time any better than this singer!
Don't even hear of her these days good 1 laurel😂❤
A faithful cover done very well.
This beautiful lady have a beautiful voice.
laurel was best thing on tv back then
If she is indeed your grandma you should be proud of her. She's very pretty and fortunate that she performed well on stage and made a lasting impression on people.

Nice beat, nice voice
Ok I danced with Laurel 1966 at at the Here Disco Nth Sydney.
I always thought this song was adorable.
Jo from USA
Gees a real good oldie ❤😊
Brings back memories of unconditional puppy love.
Nice version of "Easier Said Than Done",though I don't know this singer. Laurel Lee is beautiful.
At one time in the sixties Laurel was divorcing Kevin Todd. She would sing "You better come home" every Saturday night on Bandstand. I never thought I could get so sick of a song.
Long gone Laurel but remembered always in my heart
😢She didn't get the recognition she deserved.
I remember seeing her coming out of the Festival hall in Brisbane. She was gracious. I still have her autograph 40 years.
Excellent cover.
I danced with her at the Here disco north Sydney 1965?
What a night!
My girlfriend was not happy!
I know that against a lot of others Laurel Lea will always be the best .
She was gentle kind and just a lovely person
Great to see
Such a shame she met such a tragic demise. Thank you for the memory.
and the "tragic demise" was what? She died? Or died a Shangri-Las death by car accident?
@@FriendofDorothy how mean are you? The death of anyone is tragic. She died of leukemia leaving behind many loved ones.
love this song!
sweet tune
from usa here: i don't really remember her; but she does a pretty good job on the essex original
If anyone has a better copy of this music or video please post it. It is an amazing cover!
sadly, I've tried to find one but fingers crossed somebody else may have a clearer copy! I loved this song as a little girl!
originally by the Essex, there big hit was ,Walking merical, she is pretty ,and just sounds same as Essex version ,Thanks for posting
Saxon so cool, that's she's your Gramma. She was so popular. And so pretty and talented. :0)
this is easy to love....
Oh my! So this is the singer of that song. I have such good taste. I will complement myself.
Actually, "The Essex" is the original group who made this song. Laurel Lea here did great on this rendition, but the original group is much better. @@ChuuckKnightI had no idea. Thanks, Chad. 🍻👌🏾🎼🎶😃
I know this song sounds corny today but at least it is better than some of the shit you get today.
actually the fact that silly songs like this actually topped our charts made me realize that popular teen music really hasn't changed to this day. True classics will always be made in every decade, just don't look to the Billboard Top 40 for all of them.
Not corny, but the jokers twisting in the background are cringe worthy. Laurel Lea is just perfect.
@@RollOnToVictory I love the song it's pop it's just fun not everybody can be bob dylan or marvin gaye
no, it does not.
it's not corny in the least compared to a lot of songs in that era. And the single (by The Essex) is still cute and catchy '60s pop.
Saxon, just know that she was gorgeous as you can see.
Great!
@sallie6
I got to meet her in Brisbane near Festival Hall in the 60's. I still have her autograph. Very pretty.
@sallie6 ---yes, me too--a lot of aussie singers back then (on tv) sounded amatuerish but Laurel had a lovely look AND great sound
"Hmm I think I'll go stand on this block of steps for a moment"
Bandstand thanks for the tape
A hit for The Essex, but very like their only other hit, (He's A) Walking Miracle
This is a good version, faithful to the original--except that I miss the held notes on the harmony for the word 'easierrrrr' that the Essex version has. It was a mistake to leave that bit out, because I think it was one of the things that made listeners like it so much.
You are sooo right! good point.
@jlbaker2000 Yeah, a real top Aussie oldie! Such a great voice!
Got this on crossbow label
👍👍👍
CVLT!! 🤟
I NEVER HEARD OF HER.
I’d like a picture of this!
R.I.P what a babe sadly missed
Only 49, from leukemia, in New South Wales, AUS.
Oct. 3, 1942 - Jan. 31, 1992.
The jean campbell and the Blenders.cover version is very good and on here you tube.
oh god

Backup dancers doing the Twist.
DID THE ESSEX do this song first?
Yes

First and better
I think it's artsy - like old beatnik - cool.
@Shadowseeker66 God bless you, what a great comment.

the Essex did it much better, she is beautiful but I don't hear a lot of soul, and besides they were marines !!! oorah.
For real!
@Eddy Goris Why? Because he spoke the truth? 😌 The Essex ROCKED that song!!! 😊
She sings close to the original version.
her last name is spelled "Lea"
Howard beach queen's ozone park benson hurst little italy the golden days
She's hella pretty...kinda reminds me of Kylie Minogue.
Is she really 8 feet tall?
😂
Did not know anyone covered that song. Good Job!! Here is the Original and I was surprised to learn they were all Marines including the young Lady singing. Enjoy ruclips.net/video/wHB6muY-6WI/видео.html
She could be easily mistaken for Nancy Sinatra. Just as cute.
Must be nice to be 7 feet tall.
Have some respect ....
Why does she climbs stairs that go nowhere?
Not a bad version but I prefer the version by The Essex
Easier Said Than Done by the Essex is the original and much better
Never!
never ..she was just beautiful
Not pretty and a lousy singer.
hey, shes not alive anymore--be nice ok?
She was beautiful ....she passed away ...have some respect ...she still have family that can see your mean comments ....
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no the sound quality is not good
that's because of the age and the ONLY copy that I've been able to find :) better than nothing!!!!!!!!!!!
the birth of "lip sync"
The Essex"s version is better than this one.
Pretty good but corny as hell.
