  • Join me for a walk around the gorgeous city centre of Bath, inhabited for thousands of years on the banks of the River Avon in Somerset, and home to Britain's best-preserved Roman baths, a gorgeous medieval Abbey, the home of Jane Austen and rows and rows of spectacular Georgian-era architecture.
As we walk around Bath, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Pulteney Bridge, the River Avon, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath Guildhall, Bath Abbey, the Roman baths, Sally Lunn's, Parade Gardens, Westgate Street, Saw Close, Theatre Royal, Queen Square, the Jane Austen Centre, Gay Street, the Assembly Rooms & Fashion Museum, The Circus and Royal Crescent.

Another Splendid walking tour of a most Regal City that my late Sister and I visited several times in the mid 90s. each time we stayed in a splendid hotel in the Centre of the ‘Royal Crescent’ I recall it was the only hotel that had a large green flowering bush growing at the side of the entrance, I wonder if that is still there! I recognised many of the main attractions you mentioned in your very informative commentary, if only I could walk now as I did back then! thank you 🙏 again for a remarkable trip back in time, Cheers 🥂

Thank you for your lovely replies, yes we felt like Royalty every visit we made, it was curtesy of my sisters very generous husband that we were able to make those remarkable visits to such a Regal town like ‘Bath’ and stay in such a famous place as the ‘Royal Crescent’ my memories are so precious to me as I lost my dear sister two years ago, her husband still survives age 91! looking forward to more walking tours from the comfort of my arm chair, thanking you once again🤗👋

Good evening! I'd like to say a very big thank you to everybody for 1,800 subscribers! It means a lot to hear you're enjoying the videos :)
Now for some bonus info on Beau Nash's 'polite society', which we talk about around 21:36:
In Nash's time as Master of Ceremonies, he banned men carrying swords in Bath (revolutionary for the time), duelling, and required all establishments to close and parties to finish by 11pm. This reduced the raucous nightlife of Bath from the early 18th century, making it the epitome of 'polite society'.

This is absolutely MARVELOUS!!! I've been to Bath, it was way back in the 1980s for an afternoon, and remembered only the Roman Baths. This video is really very thorough and detailed and brought back some memories of the day there. Fortunately for us, this summer I will be using your video as a guide to take the walk with my sister and her husband, my husband and my son through this "posh" part of Bath. Thank you ever so much for compiling it and the history you share.

Excellent video - at last I've been able to see what Bath is actually like. I went on a coach trip there some years ago but the driver got lost on the way (yes, really) so we ended up with about an hour in Bath and I was only able to see a small part of it - mainly the shopping centre. I've always regretted it but now I can at least through your video I've been able to see more of it. Thank you

Bath is indeed one of the most beautiful cities in England - and the history is absolutely magnificent :) Jane Austen is without doubt a famous resident of Bath, and there are a number of other places in England's southwest where she left her mark over the years - so the whole region is well worth the visit too!
