21-9 and 21-3 in a world championship final is insane
Yeah that's a masterclass showcasing both immaculate offense and defense. I remembered Anders Antonsen walked into the final and made a grand entrance drapped in the Danish flag like entering the boxing ring.
Pv sindhu did similar in 2019 to nazomi 21-7, 21-7

No matter how many achievements Axelsen wins, Momota will always be the best player of his generation in my eyes. Their head to head pre-injury tells you everything, 14-1, utter domination.
It's soo crazy how people dont remember this stat. Post ban momota was a beast.
@@nopetynopety Exactly, and he wasnt playing against scrubs either. A h2h tie with CL and LCW, +3 against LD, he pretty much stood toe to toe against these legends.
The same cant be said abt axelsen, with a +3 against LD but -8 against both CL and LCW.
Yeah, no matter how many momota whiners we see Axelsen will carry his 2 OL gold and acumulating acolytes. Most of all Victors acolytes comes after his big surgery, momota boys tence to forget. Never the less keep the Whine going sir. GG
@@mcnugget6267 Well to be fair LCW and LD are wayy to close to retirement to be valuable data, specially LD after 2016.
@@simontoxvaerd8161 well tbf, had it been a surgery like axelsen, momota would’ve recovered to his former glory no doubt. But I believe his eye socket surgery left a permanent scar to his vision, making his shots never quite the same. Despite being a momota fan, I have to agree that the glazers are going quite far

@ari-athbadminton0301 Lin Dan hosted his own tournament where he invited some of the best young/retired players whilst sponsoring the entire event by himself, King Cup was more of a one-off event
half the decade is already over and I'm still living vividly in 2019 watching prime Momota moments

Always had a calm feeling watching him play, like he was never going to make a mistake, even when he did. Guy was as smooth as butter
not gonna lie, those few finals rallies and slowmos in the end brought up a few tears :) Such a dominant, technical, physical and humble player... Momota forever!

My idk and favorite player, just insane 2018-2019 played so effortlessly, barely smashed to win what a man. And his touch at the 2023 Korea masters and other tourneys he has lost the speed but he still had god tier control

I love the part of him in 2024, looks like he's really enjoying himself. I do wish that he didn't have so much of a bad luck/life streak though, he would have been one of the greatest, possibly rivaling LD or better.
Kento Momota in King Cup 2025 will be so insane
To be realistic, his performance would be worse than 2024 because he is training less as a retired player.
i'd love to see him play but i don't think he can compete with the top players now, maybe he'll play in exhibition match like taufik

A very one sided rivalry sadly. Iirc ginting only won once or twice compared to around 8 losses. But honestly ginting would have at least 4 titles in 2019 if kento wasnt playing

Ginting vs Momota was the still the best MS rivalry in recent times imo. Nothing else really comes close.
