    Hi, my friends :) I'm fairly sure you'll see how much I loved getting to know Jonathan in making this video. Not even going to try to be all professional and pretend I wasn't gushy :) We do talk about a few more technical ideas in this video and if you're wondering about anything, I hope you won't hesitate to ask. Enjoy watching!

    I love JVN. We often talk about his beauty, but I would like to talk about his courage. To be yourself can sometimes be very daunting, especially if you do not conform to the majority. To step away from the flock and stand alone, particularly in such a visible way, exposes you to push-back or even harassment. I commend JVN for stepping out and being seen, partly because it takes guts, but mostly because it inspires others to do the same. Thanks for featuring him as your model.

      I agree, I have so much admiration for the grace he brings to the commitment to be himself and help others do the same. For me (and my value system, fair to say), he helps others of all age groups see that happiness, success, and acceptance don't require wealth or pretence that one has everything under control. I worry about young people who surround themselves with a coating of toughness, thinking that's what success looks like, but all it does is attract other tough people. I feel more relaxed and myself with people who show that we're all vulnerable and can accept and help one another better if we don't hide behind walls, a true inspiration, as you say. In that way of opposites that life has, these are the truly strong people.

    Christine, I would love to see more videos of persons of color. I think it would help me to understand the seasons better.
    I’d also love more color-specific videos. The yellow one was especially helpful to me. Maybe red or pink featured next time?

    10:48 top - an example of bright seasons' light reflectivity? This concept about how our skin reflects light was an important piece of puzzle for me, never heard it before. I noticed crystalline glassy quality in my eyes (though they are neutral in terms of colour), translucency in my skin, glassy shine in my hair, but never considered this as seasonal thing while I was familiar with 12 season system. Your observations and explanations are very helpful and insightful, thank you, Christine.
    It also helps to see someone whose appearance is really enhanced by the effects I tried to wear but did not succeed. DW effects look just right on Jonathan and gives the ability to wear quite autumnal colours, while I avoid anything remotely autumnal - my appearance brings out brownish tones and earthiness in colours someone never considered that earthy and that brownish just by looking at them.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Год назад +3

      You bring up an important point, that much of what I say is just my perception of what I see and how it affects colour and colour analysis. When I started as a colour analyst in 2009, it was plainly obvious that it worked incredibly well on every single person, both the Sci\ART analysis process and palettes colours. The How and the What were in place. With practice and meeting the diversity of human colouring, I came across questions around 'Why does this work'. I answered them in ways that made sense to me and I'll replace the answers as soon as a better one comes along. Most of what I've said and written is just me trying to explain this huge amazing thing to myself. I'm sure some of it isn't true but for now, it's the best I've got. I'm glad it has offered you a new lens to explain what you've been seeing :)

    Christine your skills blow me away, I love being wowed about people's colours. Thanks for talking about when the clothing appears too similar to the skin, and doesn't give the face definition. Fascinating that the clothing colour may at first appear to match but might not be the right temperature, saturation or value to make the person shine. (If I'm understanding it right.)
    I thought the black tank with lacy cape suited JVN particularly fabulously.

    This video was so helpful and insightful, having just been analyzed as a bright winter myself, but probably sharing some overall personal color characteristics with Jonathan (the photo in black shows his skin is very fair when he has no suntan, and his natural hair color appears to deep blonde at times, while the hair on his face and brows is darker and more defined.) I have very little bright winter colors already in my wardrobe besides whites, blacks, and various shades of cooler grays, so I am trying to learn a lot first so I can begin to implement slowly and thoughtfully. So it’s great to see stuff like texture and shine affecting color, brightness limits, sharpness and flattening of the features, etc talked about in relation to a celebrity that not only looks good in a lot of the colors from the bright winter palette, but resembles me more than other typical celebrity examples when you search “bright winter”.
    This series where you show the effects of these colors on the celebrities in a way that’s personal even though you can’t analyze them in person is so great for viewers, whether we have been analyzed in person or not, because it teaches us how to keep a more open and experimental mind in finding what would make us look our best and really helps our understanding on small nuances between colors and how they work on clothing, accessories, fabrics, textures, makeup, hair.
    Some celebrities I’d love to see you cover, because they seem to love fashion and have a defined perspective for themselves, including a wide range of color:
    Lizzo
    Janelle Monáe
    Tilda Swinton
    Lil Nas X
    Taylor Swift (only recent photos, from 2017 onwards- I have a more in depth reason for this and can explain if asked but the short version of it is too many people on the style analysis side of social media end up talking about her fashion from a shorter period earlier in her career)

      Thank you for your very thoughtful response, and approach to your Season, which will serve you well. So much information can be found about Season that it's good to filter through it all and be selective about how it might apply to you before adding items to your wardrobe. I'm glad to know that the videos are helpful to give you some perspective and possibly also remind you of the analysis process, which can become a bit of a blur as time passes :)
      Thank you also for the list of suggestions of people who might feature well in a video. Lizzo appears in the People of Colour video. I try to spread out the Seasons and choose people with natural hair colour, the problem with hair dye being that all the colours are analyzed back to that, like self tanner, almost a built-in error or artificial colour to work around. Janelle could be excellent, a Winter who wears a great range of colours and effects to talk about.

    Wonderful video! I love how you don’t force people into a season but rather analyze each person as a unique individual with their own unique bespoke color recommendations. Before I found your videos, I spent a lot of time agonizing over weather I am a light summer or light spring (I’m extremely neutral to the point that 3 different professional color analysts have been unable to confidently type me as warm or cool, even in person) but watching your videos has made me realize I can just focus on identifying the colors that make me look the most like myself and not to worry about neatly fitting into one seasonal archetype with an unrealistic level of perfection.

      Every person is their own colour story, as you say. Narrowing down their colour palette helps them so much in making appearance choices but between two neighbour groups, they share so much that people are good at finding their way in both. Once we're in our own colour world, it may be as rewarding and more relaxing to bring our attention to other things, like texture or accessories or style type, filling in the details of our story rather than spending all our time on a single chapter. I'm happy to know you're letting go and moving ahead :)

    I've just discovered your channel and accidentally spent the whole weekend watching your style analysis series. Would you ever make a video on dressing with ethereal/fantasy styles? I think Grimes could be a very interesting person to look at as an example, or maybe some of the 90s runway shows. I'm mostly asking as I found i always looked 'normal' in my dance class fairy/princess costumes, but like I was playing dress-ups in conventional clothes. Now that I'm replacing my wardrobe with winter colours, I find I have to look online for old designers part of the 90s ethereal/fantasy phase--- all the modern styles seem to follow a sort of clean minimalism that doesn't look right on me, and all the light airy styles come out in the spring in florals and pastels...

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Год назад +4

      I'm glad that you're finding ideas in the videos. Your question is so important because our colours are the first part of looking and feeling our best, and style/line/scale are the second part. I try to keep my commentary to colour as much as possible. I'm not a style expert, more of a style observer, and making a video about style would be stepping outside my boundaries.
      I appreciate the difficulty of finding ethereal styling in clothing, although once the principles are deconstructed, much is available in modern real-world affordable styling. If you're on Pinterest, have a look at StyleScience (all one word), boards created by Florentina Mossou in the Netherlands. Transcendent and Intricate might be interesting for you.

    You talked a lot about texture in this video (particularly the matte vs shiny black in looks #7+8), which is such an interesting facet when it comes to how we perceive a color -- and something a lot of us don't take into consideration!
    I've been thinking a lot about whites in particular. I notice for myself that having some texture (fleece, or a heavy knit for example) in my whites softens it enough to be wearable, simply through the texture adding grey shadows. Whereas a completely smooth and matte fabric in the exact same color makes it look too crisp/sharp.
    I think it could be a great topic for a video!

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Год назад +1

      Once I started thinking about how texture influences colour, it was a huge new world of perception. We did a podcast about it recently, Episode 39, on my website under Podcast, that may be of interest. We talk more about the Why of texture, having fewer time constraints in podcasts than videos. I try to work it into as many topics as possible thinking the concept becomes more understandable by seeing it on a person.
      You're so right about white and I have the same experience myself, that a true white in wool, cable knit, fleece, even T-shirt cotton is just softening enough to be much better than a perfectly flat surface.

You might enjoy watching the video Wearing Colours with Silver Hair with Betty White, here on the channel. I can see how bright pink might belong with a person whose colours don't also include muted or earthy brown, but all 12 types of colouring (or Season) have versions of brown. Winters have fewer browns and more grays, Autumns the reverse, but everyone has some version of every colour. Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos :) I've thought of Blake as well, she's definitely interesting, as is Ryan Reynolds, they'd make an excellent video duo. The reason I haven't moved forward is I get stuck on Blake's dyed blonde hair. I totally get that her job and where she lives makes the blonde almost necessary and she wears it well, but it's hard to comment on Blake in the colours she wears and ignore the hair colour, whether a person likes blonde or not. The public loves her as a blonde which is great but I can't comment objectively about Blake. I haven't come up with a theme that we can all apply and learn from, but I'd sure love to hear if you have ideas around that. Her teenage/high school hair colour wasn't that much darker and there are images of her in dark hair that are very interesting, just not sure how to work with them in a video. Great idea though, I'll move Blake&Ryan back to the top of the list.
