I went to cosmetology school and my instructors HATED henna and would slander it sooo badly! They loved my hair though because it was a pretty red color and very healthy. It was, of course, stained with henna. I was too embarrassed to tell them when they would compliment me, but now I look back and laugh.

Women start using henna to cover grey well that’s going to have a knock on effect on their industry . Chemical hair treatments, I looked them up recently, just to get an idea into the £100s? And then top up treatments crazy crazy prices . So it’s big money for them. Makes sense why they would be critical they don’t want you to use it.
Chemical hair dyes aren’t an option for me . Both in terms of after effects and the hole in my pocket
@Lu’luah The most common argument I hear is that if you use henna, you cannot use traditional hair dyes until the hair grows out. A reaction occurs where it destroys your hair if processed by both ingredients. That's why hairdressers don't recommend it, because they can't do any color if someone comes into the salon with henna. So if you like henna, you stay committed to henna basically

@@anotheryoutuberperson38 That argument is actually false. I used henna for ~10 years and then got highlights. (We did a strand test first.) The key is you have to be using pure henna without added metals, some hennas have additives. The added metals can interact with the chemicals and cause burning. Anyway, I hated the highlights and used demi-permanent color to cover them up for a while but it washed out so fast. The highlights and chemical color also dried my hair out. I'm now back to henna and my hair looks so much healthier.
Every single time I get my hair cut at the salon, on my way out, the other stylists compliment my COLOR, a beautiful auburn red, thinking I got the color done at the salon. It's hilarious. I've used chemical dyes before and they make my curly fine hair so frizzy and mess up the curl pattern quite a bit. I've gone back to henna. Been using it on and off for almost 15 years.
when he talked about how there is no research into henna... what about the thousands of years of use, dating back 5000 years into old egypt?
it may be news to white social media influencers but its safety is well known in all of middle east, india, pakistan and africa.
Just because something has been done for thousands of years, doesn't make it 'researched' or safe. There are so many things we stopped doing after researching. I'm not saying henna is unsafe, but something bring extensively tested does make it more safe, right?

"We don't know what Henna is going to do to your hair long term." Hasn't Henna been used for literally thousands of years in India as a regular hair colouring and conditioning treatment? As in they use it regularly over the literal entirety of their teen and adult lives? Has no one thought to ask an Indian woman this? You'd think this was the latest concoction out of some unknown lab the way this guy is talking not an ancient hair care practice.

I have not been watching his videos since then. I mean I understand why he'd need to beat down on henna for business reasons, but then dont spread misinformation atleast damn
I'm of African and Indian descent. I saw the video where he was responding to people using henna and he was very negative.
Also, while henna was used in Africa, India and other Middle Eastern countries are known for it and should be asked how to use it.
He has chemicals to sell. That's why he said what he said.
@@checkermaker480 I also stopped watching him after he did this video as a life long henna user and henna being a significant part of my culture I was very offended by this video and I'm surprised he had the audacity to actually post it. Really showed his true colors and ignorance to how meaningful of a thing henna is in some cultures.
@@romanaa7070 indeed. It was very insensitive of him. I work with formulations, and hair dyes are one of the most nocuous compositions there are🤷🏽♀️ I've known of Ppl losing their whole head of hair after one round of bleach and dyeing.

As someone who has dyed her hair with henna since I was 16 it is absolutely crazy how toxic and rude people are about henna. What’s the craziest part to me is I’ve been using it for so long and have yet to find any cons. I got told constantly that my hair is so pretty and heathy. It has thickened my hair and protected it too. I love my color and slight changes to it always fade out into the original color. I have also been able to bleach it and it took 11 tries for it to actually get it to light color it needed to be because my henna did what? PROTECTED MY HAIR. I was able to bleach my hair to an almost white color with nooooo damage. Henna is the best 🥰

I've had hairdressers coo over my hair then do a complete 180 once they hear I only use henna. It really reflects their poor education/ignotance on the topic!
The only bad thing about henna is the permanence. I had my hair dyed with henna and loved it, but keeping up with my roots stressed me out. The grow out process took so long. I do miss the red though.
I’m assuming you’re not a professional hair stylist. That’s the point of view he’s coming from.
I started using Henna when I was 16, my bestie's mom had brought me back a whole bunch from Pakistan because her son had told her about me planning on dying my hair red. She didn't want me to ruin my fine hair with the harsh chemicals so she taught me the traditional way to use it. I always add lavender and tea tree oil too, for added moisture and it really compliments the smell of the henna. Like a feild of tall blooming flowers and grass. I've tried box dyes and having my hair professionally done but it NEVER gets the same results. I naturally have light auburn hair but prefer brighter red hair. I find it to take on a life of it's own, like the spirit of the henna plant knows exactly what shade of red your hair should be for you. I've reccomended it to a lot of friends who feel bored with their natural hair, just a light mask and it changes your look completely; leave it a little longer and it's like a whole other person. LOVE LOVE LOVE henna.
P.s. I once dropped a little henna on my dog's head on accident while playing.... she still looks like she has a sauce stain 2 years later 😅 makes her cuter in my opinion, it just blends in with her other markings.

(Edit: I’m a 100% pure henna user and have never dyed my hair with hairdressing chemical dyes, but let’s not kid ourselves that ‘chemicals’ is a bad word... Dihydrogen monoxide is something EVERYONE should be taking for example 🤪😅)

This was the video that was needed. His name will bring people here and hopefully will be more informed. I used Lushs henna it’s more of a henna gloss. The color isn’t strong and from my experience easily changeable. I’m glad he revisited henna and tried to learn. He still needs to understand a bit more and I hope he will see this video.
He did a great job though, I'm so excited he even gave it a try! It was a wonderful way to start a conversation about henna! I would love for him to see this and maybe give it another try in the future 😉

THIS makes me want to try it. I've only died my hair once when I was younger I hated the color so I've never done it again but I've got a little gray coming now if I can find someone to do this I'm gonna try it thanks for the awesome video
The Lush one is definitely a gloss situation with cocoa butter and stuff like that, and I found it way more messy (the burgundy I was using had coffee grounds in it). I’m a Henna Sooq do or die fan. Red Raj with hibiscus powder is my jam!
Fun Fact: Lucille Ball of I Love Lucy fame used henna to get her fiery red/orange hair color.

When he came out with a “box” of henna dye.....I’m like NO THAT’S NOT HENNA. My husband actually calls henna as “Earth Vomit.” But I love Henna Sooq, and I get all of my hair henna products from Khadija. ❤️❤️❤️
Hey, I'm Brazilian and I've used the brand he is using in the video. This brand sells a creamy weak version, but they also sell the actually herb powder, which is what Brad used. However, the manufacturer's instructions in this brand are bullshit and if you follow the leaflet you are left with a thick mixture and not proper pigmentation. You basically have to be in the loop to use it right, which is bad product design but it is, in fact, henna

Pro tip : Add natural lemon juice to the henna batter. I think it helps in darkening the colour and/or making it last longer. I am an Indian guy and my mom used to dye her hair with henna when I was a kid. Also, if you get a henna tattoo, spray/sprinkle lemon juice on top of the tattoo as its drying (before washing it off) to make it darker and make it last longer.
when brad said his henna dye wasn’t tested on animals, I got thrown back to the time I visited Mauritania where the white horse next to our house had his tail dyed and it was BRIGHT orange

Never dyed my hair with henna before, the hair thickening property really sold me.
It doesn't have to be henna, there are multiple plant powders you can use, cassia is almost transparent :D

I’m a henna girl from way back. 29 years now. One of the most amazing things about henna is the grow-out. For some reason, the roots are indistinguishable during grow out. My daughter, who’s hair is mid blond naturally, can have 6 inches of grow-out and for whatever reason, you can’t see a line. It’s super magical.
It mostly cause the color fades so naturally that it's hard to see the line,from my experience you can't see it indoors but under direct sunlight it's visible.
Can I used henna in colored hair I have dark brown hair but I colored red and I wonder if my rots would be darker than the red hair ?
@@kopec82 my mom used to use henna on her hair a lot when she was younger. She said it give it a really nice orange-red glow when the sun shone on it (she has black hair and would just apply it on top)
@@kopec82 I am sure your hair will dye darker in time when your roots grow out. Because it doesn't bleach. But because it's a natural product, you will not see a line and it will blend in. Beside, the roots are always darker because it was never in the outside. Sun makes your hair lighter so it is normal that the ends are lighter than the roots. You understand? I am not native English so I need a lot of words to explain things lol

Henna is such a normal part of my beauty routine. I am mixed race german/turkish. I always joke about the fact that I got that german personality from my father and the passion & looks from my mother. I grew up with my mother treating my hair with henna every few months and now as a adult I do it myself. Like it was thousands of years ago in Byzantium.The women in our family carried this tradition into the modern times teaching their daughters how to care for their hair with henna.
And let me tell you there are not wrong. Henna is the best thing you can do for hair.
I am a natural redhead, inching towards 50 which is when my mom's hair started fading. My hair color is so much of my identity. I don't want to lose it. I've never dyed my hair, it's healthy virgin hair, and I don't want to damage it with chemical dye ever. Subscribed and bookmarking your store page for when it's time to color my hair.
This is how I found myself here. I am getting whites now and my hair is beginning to fade. Henna seems like the way for me to go. I'm trying to learn and I'm going to try it soon. Wish me luck!

I did it! I used Lush rouge henna and my hair looks INCREDIBLE. I'm in love with the result. Covered all my whites beautifully and my hair is so vibrant.
I’m a natural redhead, but it’s going more towards brown as I age, which I don’t like. I love bright copper hair, and doing that chemically was expensive and fades so quickly. The Moroccan henna is cheaper and more permanent than any salon colors. I’ve been using henna off and on - with some chemical dyes jobs in between - for 5 years. I keep coming back because you just can’t get this color with the staying power from salon dyes. I use tea as the mixing liquid and some coconut oil to add moisture. I added lavender essential oils this time, too.

Last week I used your henna and indigo to color my grey hairs, and I loved it! I added aloe and amla powder, and it felt so nice and made my hair very soft and the color turned out beautifully! My hair grows around 7-8 inches a year. The only time I've ever tried coloring it with box color... it only grew 4 inches that year. Yeah I'm not sure a lot of stylists know what a healthy scalp really is.
That's so true. Hair is dead (past the root), your scalp is what is still alive.
I love henna. I used it before I got sick with blood cancer but now after being diagnosed, I will stick with Henna for sure. I wish there were more people who are around who know how to use Henna. I wish there was a henna salon I could go to that specializes in this treatment.

I’ve been a Henna Sooq user for a while now (just received my latest Jamila order today in fact!!) and I absolutely love Khadija’s approach to Brad’s video. When I first saw Brad’s vid, I was frustrated with the lack of research he did and the sorta dismissive attitude he took to the whole process. But her patience in explaining step by step the right information, and the lighthearted way she responded to his comments was so sweet! I definitely love using henna, and Henna Sooq is my favorite source for sure! 😊
I used pure powdered henna on and off my brown hair during the 80s and nineties to get this wonderful auburn gloss (and no harsh regrowth lines) and only really switched to box dyes permanently when my hair started having a lot of white, which henna looks awful on. It always made my hair beautiful, to the point hairdressers asked what I used, and commented on its great condition. It never reacted with any other dye I put on, because I only used pure henna. I find it sad that so-called hairdressers are so ignorant about a plant dye that has been used and tested for thousands of years before hair salons even existed. Plus, hairdressers routinely damage clients' hair with various chemicals and their own incompetence, I have no idea why they're so sanctimonious about henna.

I ALWAYS get compliments at the salon when I go get a haircut. Honestly, I think they like when I come in because my color is vibrant and people think it is freshly colored by the salon. 😁
@@lockergr it can look in your face orange. But I have white hair near my ears and the odd strand in the body of my hair. If I consistently dye every 4-6 weeks it builds up to more of a red colour , fiery red . I was thinking if I go 50% white will I use henna. Well if it looks orange rather than red I won’t be using it. You can use indigo after pure henna to get darker red, brown to black but I’m not sure I want to. I tried Indigo and it just comes out after 2 weeks . To me it’s not worth the two step or process. So if I can achieve a red colour I will continue to use it . If not I will go full white . I’d rather have healthy white hair than damaged chemical dyed hair.
I have noticed I get more volume and shine in my hair. But my hair is very shiny already so I don’t need more it can weigh it down for me soon after dying. But a couple of days later it’s back to normal .

I now have a better understanding of henna and how it works. I personally LOVED the after results. It was a lovely red color. Much better than the color it was before that’s for sure. Agreed…chemicals can build up in the body from the commercial hair dye and can be toxic over time. Especially how often one needs to dye when we’re trying to hide greys.

After about 3-4 years of dying my hair with any bleach and store bought dye I could find, since I went to a hairdresser once and she charged me over $100 for doing whatever she felt like instead of what I asked, I found henna. I love the red it gives me, I've used it once and need to redo it soon... but it's beautiful, my hair feels healthy, and I may be a minority in it but I absolutely LOVE the horse barn/timothy hay smell of it. 10/10.

Love this reaction video. When Brad mentioned “keeping it forever” he was referring to the fact that you need to let it fade and grow out. Adding traditional western colour products over henna can have interesting, and sometimes scary, results.
I don't think it will ever fade away tho. If you want it gone, you need to cut your hair

@@clarrie93 it does “fade”, eventually. I used henna for a whole year, every 8 weeks. Had to leave my hair alone for over a year before my hair stylist would colour or perm it for me.
Dye stays forever too though. You have to bleach it if you want to get it out

Loved your input on this. I use 70% Moroccan henna, 30% cassia, and two tablespoons of amla, mixed with chamomile tea and a splash of vinegar. I get the prettiest deep copper over my dark blonde hair every time 🥰 Henna Sooq really is the best.
I have naturally dark hair, so had a bleach adventure a while back so I could try out light pastel colours. It was fun, but absolutely DESTROYED the quality of my hair. Going on a henna dye regimen really helped to restore my hair back to health! :)

I remember when I was thinking about doing henna hair for the first time, my friend said it made a huge mess to wash out, but I had no worse of a mess than i would with all the other hair dye ive used
Same. I read someone's comment about the henna pulling out her hair when she rinsed it. I can only guess that she allowed it to dry, like a mud pack, on her hair. Then she was probably too rough when trying to rinse it out.
I found it a bit difficult the first time, but now I find it easy. Plus, there are no harsh chemicals to get in your eyes.
I am so happy you made this video.
He only left it on for an hour. When I use henna I leave it on for at least 3 hours. It's covered in cling film and a towel for 2 hours, then air dry for the last hour. The softness and shine is second to none, and once you start using it regularly, the colour gets deeper.

I am a Curly and Coily stylist who is apprehensive about offering henna as a full colour service due to its unpredictability and time constraints, but with these new golden nuggets about tone difference between Moroccan and Indian Henna and possibly processing henna with steam and heat I am going back to the drawing board.

I mix my henna with a natural silicone free conditioner, so it’s a very light tint on my hair. It gives such a wonderful warmth and glow.
Great video! Thank you for reviewing and reacting to Brad’s video. He’s wonderful and I know he tried, but I was right there with you in a lot of things you were saying. I feel like he needs to talk to an actual henna expert and shadow them as they do applications on clients to see how it’s done as well as what goes into preparing the henna mixture. I love henna and I feel like he still has a lot to learn.
I have used your Henna for years. It is wonderful. I am also a cosmetologist, and I love Henna. It is an excellent choice for many people.
I think he made the mixture (besides being too thick) and put it straight on the hair, instead and letting it seat for a couple hours. preferably covered so that the color would start coming out, THEN apply it to the hair. that's what I've been doing and I only have to do my roots and dye the whole hair once a year. I use, of course, 100% pure henna and water only, so it's different, I guess
I read that you shouldn't let it rest when you use indigo, and Brad's mix included indigo.
I always use my henna and indigo mix immediately. But I do leave it on for hours.
it'd be really interesting to see a collab between you two! hopefully Brad finds this video! he has a trend with collabs where he'll do the guests hair, maybe eventually(after covid isn't as much of a risk) he could instead be the guest getting his hair done!

I love henna. I am in germany and my hairdresser does my highlights over my henna, and gives me tips how to apply it and when, so I am lucky that they are so neutral or positives about natural dyes.
This is HILARIOUS! The stylist from raw curls organic used henna on her hair. (From the curly hair q & a) I think you will find her review interesting. She hadn’t used henna before and gave an interesting review. She tried it on her hair before using it on her client. (If I remember correctly)

I tried henna back in 2012 and I loved it so much,I went with the black color and my goodness I loved how dark it was. It's been years since I've mixed up some henna but I've been considering it lately and I think I just might take the leap. I really miss having black hair💔

I'm turning 50 this year and I started using Henna when I was 16. My hairdresser is a fan of my hair colour and thinks it's great that I use Henna. I know start to get single white hair, but since Henna is covering them, it looks like I have natural highlights lol. I will have to check out your other videos :)

Love how you explained how different ingredients are added to alter the color of henna and how henna grown is different areas have different properties. Thats exact the same way cosmotoligest have to think of dyes and different brands to get the perfect color result. It made so much sense to me just need to figure out those golden ratios 💗

Love this Khadija !! Brad should have tried with Raj and Djamilla for example. Women in my family have been using henna for ever, they have the most gorgeous hair, healthy with beautiful copper/reddish highlight. I have virgin hair well only used henna as well and I wouldn't trade it. I love watching Brad Mondo video tho :)

Hello from morocco. I just wanted to say that natural henna without any added ingredient is the best for all hair types. The difference is in how to use it. I have a really dry fine hair and I've been using it ever since I was a child every week or too. What I do is that I soak my hair with oils a night before using henna and I keep it wet on my hair for like 1h30 or 2h and then I rinse it. I never had problem with it. After drying my hair with a towl I apply my hair creme and oil or serum and it did wonders to my hair. It thickens it and the best thing is that it gives my hair a nice firy glow under the sun. It is not only a hair dye but it is a hair treatment.

I am so glad this popped up! I love henna hair dye, but after an incredibly unfortunate/hilarious incident with questionable henna and then bleach (I was young! I didn't think to research!) I've been wary. Not only did this give me more info, you're also in the same geographic area and I could totally come get a hair consult one day. Yay!
I was using chemical colors for years. I recently tried Hennasooq's henna + indigo and I'm never going back to chemical colors. And my hair has shine it's never had before AND I was able to get the color I wanted. I switched to henna mostly as a result of the pandemic, but not only that, it just so happened that shortly before the pandemic hit, traditional chemical hair dye was linked to cancer. Consider me a convert for life.

I became severely allergic to chemical hair dye at the same time that my hair became really grey. Now, I'm not against pretty grey hair, but not the dull pepper that outweighs the salt in my hair!
So, I turned to henna. If I'd tried this years ago, I never would have used harmful chemicals! My hairdresser is always amazed at how beautiful my hair is - its condition and shine. I just wish that I had a hairdresser that I could go to when I need to dye my hair - I always get into a mess 😆 At least the henna and indigo mix I use washes off the sink and floor better than chemical dye, as well as not staining my skin 🙂
I, too, just had a horrible reaction to permanent hair dye. I had always used semi-permanent. I had let it grow out for 4 years, and it was brown in the back with gray streaks in the front. So, I tried permanent dye. I kinda liked my gray hair, but it is aging. I tested the dye on my elbow--no reaction. It started burning like hell-fire a week later and has been burning off and on for a month and a half. I was miserable. It has settled down now. Never any dyes with PPD chemical in them!!! Now I want to henna my hair, but am almost afraid to. I am reading all I can about it. Wish me luck!
I love using it to keep my thick brows dark prior to threading too and of course a hand and foot painting. It wasn't messy to clean up and since I operate from a holistic approach to my health, beauty and food, the smell was cool👌

I noticed that Brad seems to have taken his henna video down. Thank you for this one and your reactions and input. I thought he achieved an absolutely beautiful color on that mannequin’s natural hair. As a boring dishwater blonde, Henna is now on my to-do list!

Used in The Middle East and North East Africa for hair for much longer and the benefits are documented from those places too. Why are people saying we have to ask someone Indian? Indian henna is amazing but Indians don’t own the right to use it and people need to stop saying it’s appropriation. It’s used globally. The oldest documented usage is in Syria and Egypt. One of the best books on this history of henna is written by an Indian lady who vouches for this.
