I agree...25,000 miles since 2008 on my Actionbent tadpole trike...its my baby! I put a rear hub motor on it after a couple of years and mounted the batts under the seat. If you electrify make sure the batteries are as close to the centre of mass of the combined vehicle/rider unit as possible, for the best handling. I can happily hold my own in vehicular traffic up to 30 mph. Good to get a mirror on each side for safety, and a flag.

Welcome to the world of tadpole recumbents Sandy. I have ridden one for many years now and would not go back to the dark side 🫣 You can load them up like a pack horse but keep it lightweight if possible and it will make a difference on the hills. Slow going uphill but nothing gets close to you going down hill ! ICE is a great British brand and you will find the drum brakes a joy. Enjoy

Definitely get yourself to a steam rally Sandy, I used to organise Special Event Station for many years at a local rally. My kids grew up camping at rallies and loved them, my eldest lad used to help out feeding the music cards into an organ and got to learn how the fair ground organs worked at a very early age. Wonderful memories for us all.

I hope you get on alright with the trike, Sandy. I had an Ice Trike a few years ago but only kept it for about a year, as I felt very vulnerable on roads. Also, it's slow and hard work going up hills as you can't let gravity pull your body weight down on the pedals. I didn't notice whether you had suspension on yours, but personally I would say it is essential, as you can't raise yourself out of the saddle on rough patches as you can with a conventional bike. Sorry if this sounds negative but one thing in it's favour is that the seat is so much more comfortable than a saddle!

If it has wheels and can be propelled forward, of course Sandy will be interested in it. I am very anxious to see how that new machine works for you Sandy. I suppose if you have the right gearing and good tires and racks for hauling your gear, it should do just fine out on the trails for camping and other outdoor activities. I'm certain that you will make it all work. Congratulations on your new addition to your "adventure arsenal." Thanks for showing it to us, see you on the next one.

I had an ICE trike for about 6 months and had to sell it on as you can’t cut traffic on them. You can bump up a curb on them. You can’t ride them off road as too too unstable. I’d not do it my friend. Them problem with them is your weight is towards the back but of course that is where you only have one wheel. I just couldn’t see the advantage to it unless you had a problem with your balance……I do not so sold it on. Just my 2 peneth worth. All the beast my friend. J

@@neilsonwheels I live on the London Surrey borders and with the amount of traffic on my commute I couldn’t just can’t slip down the side of a queue of cars also I couldn’t just pop it up a kerb to switch to the path. It was great fun but I couldn’t justify keeping it along with a “normal” bike oh and I also managed to roll it on a laden ride off-road so. As sandy has different bikes for different jobs I’m sure he will get on just fine just not for me. 👍

Hi Sandy. I have kept bees for over 50 years and have always used Manley frames in the honey supers because they can hold twice as much honey as the SN 1 or the Hoffman ones which reduces work when extracting the honey.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Steve,
When my brother and I kept bees over 30 years ago we also used commercial equipment, most of our hives were Modified Dadant or old 13 frame British National brood chambers (Old Alec Gales top bee space brood chambers I believe) they would fit to Dadant supers. I doubt I shall ever get back into beekeeping as I have too much on but I can look back and remember lots of good times. Sadly my dream of becoming a bee farmer ended when I got married and moved to the town and became unwell and just generally went through a very difficult time for several years, thankfully things are a lot better now apart from the lack of free time.
I am trying to locate R. Manleys final resting place and the location of his out apiaries also the same for A. W. Gale for a video project, do you have any info I wonder?

  • @nikkij1618

Hi Wiltshire Man on your TomTom change the route type to windy roads it’ll take you on some fantastic twisty routes (don’t do it when you are in a hurry though😀)
I often do it when I want a slow scenic plod on my little bike. I set a destination add places to the route I want to go on the way and set it to windy routes.
Also if you ever want to ensure the sat nav takes you on a certain route click on the route and add via points - you really don’t need to stop and create new routes for each place you go to.

I am on the edge of the Cotswold near Chipping Norton and as you probably know it's pretty hilly so I made mine with electric assist and it's lovely to ride. Hill climbs are slower on a recumbent so for me this was essential. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures. For relaxed riding and taking in the views they are unbeatable.

Put a pennant on an aerial as there below door height of most modern cars. I saw one a few years ago and the only way I knew it was coming at a junction with cars parked either side was the moving pennant higher than the roof of the cars. Always fancied one but in a busy suburban area not really practical.

I have seen reverse trikes being used on paved rail trails near me. They look like a lot of fun if you have the right place to ride them. I've also seen a tandem model that someone was using to take a disabled relative for a ride. You can apparently load them up pretty heavily. The only caveat I've heard is that these are not easily seen by motorists.

But it's not very good on hills, different pedalling positions make for a slower ride up hills and downhill bends with caution! For me, an electrical assistant is required. Batteries are the biggest drawback. Happy day's. Vincent

I know Chesham well. Grew up in a small village not too far away. Long long time ago now. Fond memories.
That trike looks great fun Sandy. You should have some good adventures on it. I would have thought that you want a good strong rack to carry all your luggage.
My only concern riding it would be trying not to get crushed by other vehicles as you are so low down and visibility is therefore quite limited from it and too easy for other road users not to see you . Great idea in principle but in practice maybe too high risk on the roads and I guess they don't go off road. Maybe good for riding in somewhere like Netherlands?
How many bicycles do you have now? Must be a few. Plus your RE and V-Strom. Life on two wheels is good.
Hope you get to making a bee video. Would be very interesting.

On the motorcycle I have a power bronze windscreen, thats how they come, it is taller than the one supplied with the bike from Royal Enfield

Didcot was always a dump, now it looks like a city, they have built on many of the places that used to flood... That trike will be nice with no more pain in your arse.

It's horrifying Bry how the developers are taking so much land nowadays. If the past generations could come back they would not recognise many of the places these days! Trikes are much more comfortable than bikes as your body is supported but they are also less convenient, everything has its pros and it's cons I reckon:)

I have all sorts of push bikes but I would never consider a low rider trike. I can just see you negotiating a tight country bend and lorry coming around the same bend fast, behind you, him looking ahead from high up and you getting squashed, with the lorry driver driving too fast, perhaps on the phone or distracted in some other way, whilst you are riding along just above the road like a flat fish ( extremely flat ?) At the end of the day, the fact that he was driving dangerously, doesn't help you, all mashed up and dead ? I would suggest that the best bike for you to go camping etc would be a smallish electric cargo bike.

I think I will only choose to ride it on certain roads Steve, statistically there are not many accidents with trikes involving lorries

Please learn how to use the apostrophe when you're posting publicly. Bees, bikes and trikes are all plural (not possessive) and do not need an apostrophe.

For the sake of not wanting to harm the English language and the written word I have removed the apostrophes. As it is Englishness is having a hard enough time of things at the moment. It may take a while for the Thumbnail to update though as that has to go through the machinations of RUclips
