Flybe goes once per day at Silly O’Clock and doesn’t return ‘til early evening, plus is often delayed or cancelled. FlyMAYBe. On the train you can come home early, or stay late, see friends, etc. And at only 10 minutes longer, a no brainer.

    This video proofs to me that the train is the best choise. With the train you have an hourly frequentie and the plane can't do that. I have notting againgst Flybe but there ticket prices are high. A roundtrip Rotterdam-Manchester €80. Ryanair ask €30 for a roundtrip Eindhoven- Manchester (Eindhoven is further away than Rotterdam) . I understand that Flybe is more expensive than Ryanair but the price difference between the two is to big.

    This is stupid, it doesn't work because for a fair comparison its door to door time, so need to leave at the same time.
    Added to the fact that flybe are a terrible airline who are incapable of being on time this means the train is quicker.

      It's absolutely a fair comparison. It's not about who can leave the latest to arrive for a specific time, it's about the absolute fastest time from point A to point B. If anything, it's fairer that they are free to choose what time they leave to maximise their chances of getting there quicker. Sorry for the late reply btw.

      @@pingu255 a study from the german university of Aachen I think it was, showed, that the poor utilisation and enormous amount of infrastructure needed to run a train network (heated rails, thousands of lit up stations etc.) gives the train a combined amount of CO2 per passenger per mile, wich is actually beaten by the planes, using the same index to calculate CO2. It's not only what the vehicles actually "burn", there is more to the equation. To be fair though, if the route is less than 450 miles, the plane can't beat the train, as it becomes more efficient when there is a longer cruise in relation to the duration of the climb. For everything over 450 miles though, contrary to popular belief, the plane is the best way to travel.

      And we are making Energy for trains from coal also many airlines has already order electric or hybrid planes and if thwy dont they use biofuel btw i think that trains was much more enviroment unfriendly when they was the same age as a plane plus aviation makes only 1% of world co2

  • @jetwhite
    @jetwhite 6 лет назад +1

    I use the London City - Exeter route for work. Door to door, it’s quicker for me to get the plane. Here’s how my journey goes:
    Home
    Tube
    DLR
    Plane
    Taxi
    Hotel
    If I take the train it goes;
    Home
    Tube
    Tube
    Train
    Taxi
    Hotel
    It is cheaper, and it is quicker, but the flight times are really, really bad for those that use it to get from home in London to work in Exeter. It has been totally designed for people who live in Exeter to get to work in London.
    Also you can’t carry liquids on a plane without measuring them out beforehand, which is really annoying every time I want to travel. You could choose to check a bag to get around this but then you’re paying extra, you have to get to London City earlier, and you have to wait in Exeter.
    I’m genuinely tempted to say it’s EASIER to get the train despite it being slower and more expensive. For this reason, it will continue to be the people’s choice, even though people love a bargain.
    If they change the flight times, I will never use the train again, as flying is just a lot cooler and appeals to me.
    PS: check out the route the plane takes out of LCY. It turns back to the east coast, travels out towards the sea, then turns down to the south coast and out over the sea before finally turning to traverse the south coast. This wastes about 15 minutes. If they managed to fix this, the flight would be about 30 mins long, then it would be an absolute no-brainer for most people.

      Well I think it depends how cautious the rider is. Although you can pre-check in and save time cautious people will still add a long time before a plane flight of 2-3 hours but on trains the most cautious people will only usually be about 20-40 mins early.The plane journey would obviously be faster. I'd like to be able to recreate this test with more control variables to find which is actually faster as either way it is a close call.
