“go green and grow oregano” Tommy Smothers has such fun with this one! They were and remain the most intelligent and original voices ever seen and heard on t.v.
Look at the beauty of this performance. This is done live, in one take with no teleprompter. She memorized her lines just a if she were a professional. She delivered them with perfect timing just as if she were a professional, and she maintained character just as if she were a professional. (Are you paying attention Jessica Alba?)
Leigh French was an exceptional improvisation actress, which is why she was hired to appear on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. This skit was very well executed.
Aside from the first sentence this is inaccurate. The show was not live, it was taped and they had rehearsals. And regarding "as if she were a professional"...ummm.. Leigh French WAS a professional, and yes, used queue cards. Sorry to burst your bubble.
great script for this skit. very funny and satirical . It was a time when many people in the US were more open minded and sceptical of US foreign and domestic policy in the 1960s which became a worldwide revolution for change by 1968 . It was outrageous and terrible the Smothers Brothers got cancelled by CBS for being too critical and satirical in 1969 . The Smothers Brothers won a lawsuit against CBS for "breach of contract "

LOL "bring along a soul brother sign" ... I had a buddy whose dad had a business in DC during the riots, he wrote "Soul Brother" in huge letters on his storefront.
I watching this for the second time.. first it was live now it's youtube and boy o boy has the weather gotten a lot worse.,., Wow ! Nailed it.. Leigh French !
My favorite is the flowerchild skit. She was phenomenal. I'm not sure what her actual name is? The hippie she portrayed was named Goldie. Lol, it's Leigh French. She is a phenomenal comedian
Leigh also starred in "Gomer Pyle" & "I Spy." Did quite a lot of on air work with Smothers Brothers (Share Tea With Goldie), movies & voice overs. She is 75 now & i don't know if she's still active or retired.

I live in Texas, and I find that the problem of abnormal density remains. Some have even suggested that it might break Texas off from the rest of the country. And I'm about ready to help them pack.
About halfway through her "forecast", I could see how the overall national climate was going to look. What I DIDN'T see, though, was how a couple of simple tweaks to the prognosis could create such a radical change in the outcome. Well done!
When I left the States 40 years ago I was living in Colorado. There was a big argument about serving wine at evening art exhibitions at a museum. It was forbidden and the museum wanted to be able to. When I visited again about 10 years ago, they were still serving wine was still not allowed and they were still arguing about it using the same arguments. No comment, I just report the news.
Why she gives me hope -- Things were the same 50 years ago, and we survived. Why she gives me despair -- Things were the same 50 years ago, are we doomed to keep reliving the same hate & intolerance generation after generation???
She said the blacks were going to take over Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland. Man, was she dead on. The only thing that's changed is instead of s "Soul Brother" sign you need a "BLM" sign now.
This video in the 60’s didn’t have anything to do with climate change as that was not a concept back then. Someone put a spin on it with the title. It is a spoof on the climate of the country however. The difference between then and now is the intensity. It was rather quiet after the time period of this show for many years until 2008. This joke/comedy is similar to George Carlin’s Hippie Dippie Weatherman.
Quiet after the time period of this show??? Wellll... I guess so, if you can ignore that little regional weather disturbance in Southeast Asia referred to by some of the older folks as the so-called Vietnam War. Protests in front of the White House in D. C.? Presidents secretly planning to incarcerate political and media dissenters in internment camps for exercising their First Amendment right of Free Speech? Naw! We didn't have nuthin' like that back in those halcyon Peace & Love groovy ol' hippie days.
Yes, and at least when hippies went to DC, Nixon showed up to talk to them and get their input at the Lincoln Memorial. Of course there were molotov cocktails thrown in Chicago etc. But it wasn’t ongoing long term. There wasn’t craziness every election. There were some haters but not like today. The hate could have been avoided towards the vets if the media would have explained why certain things were happening in Nam. Villagers were killed because many were guerilla warfare and working for the enemy. A soldier told me mothers would pull the pin on a grenade wrapped up with their baby and throw the baby to a soldier as they fled a village. The vets got a lot of hatred when they came home but the American people didn’t know what they had to deal with. They had no choice being drafted either. Many were forced to serve however they were ordered to serve.
@Timothy. Hatred wasn’t aimed at the general population. A lot was taken out on Nixon and vets returning home. America wasn’t used to guerilla warfare and average citizens didn’t know what the vets were dealing with. Most citizens were kind to one another. The temp sino now is different. The greed and narcissism wasn’t there in general population.
I don't think so... Goldie pretty much always played the ditsy blond on Laugh-In. Leigh's character may have been floating a bit but really wasn't a ditz.

It just dawned on me that Gilda Radner got some of her schtick after this girl.
