  • INDESEM 2023 - A lecture by Jean-Philippe Vassal (Lacaton & Vassal) titled: 'Boundaries'
The internationally acclaimed French architect Jean-Philippe Vassal founded the architectural practice Lacaton & Vassal with Anne Lacaton in 1987. Their practice, which is now based in Paris, believes that every structure can be repurposed, reinvented, reinvigorated; "Always add, never demolish". Throughout their careers, the architects have rejected city plans calling for the demolition of social housing, focusing instead on designing from the inside out to prioritize the welfare of a building’s inhabitants and their unanimous desires for larger spaces.
Lacaton & Vassal received many highly regarded awards, including the Pritzker Prize in 2021 for their work.
The lecture by Jean-Philippe Vassal was held on the occasion of the 24th edition of INDESEM, that took place from the 29th of May - 2nd of June 2023 in Delft.
    What is INDESEM?
INDESEM (International Design Seminar) is a biennale, founded by a group of students in 1964 and reinitiated in 1985 by Herman Hertzberger. For one full week, students from all over the world come together at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment of the Delft University of Technology to engage in conversation with tutors, architects and theorists about the current and future position of the architect within our society. The programme of the INDESEM seminar week consists of lectures, excursions and workshops, all organized around a specific contemporary theme.
