I’ve told a table of 2 that the wait is an hour and a half, and they still wanted to wait. Then of course they come up every 5 minutes asking if the tables is ready for them.
Twenty years ago, a woman who would now be in that age range confided to me that she was concerned that the millennials in the parking lot were going to try to give her a tattoo.
That's me. Not waiting more than 25 minutes for a table lmao. Almost always check for call-ahead seating. If they don't have it, ask for wait time before you drive 👍

But if I specifically plan to go somewhere out to eat, I'd definitely wait 45 minutes. You can go get a drink at the bar and chill out with your group for a while. It's not difficult... for anyone who's not a child or has children... Which one are you?
Yeah, 42 can almost be 27's mom or dad. And 20 years ago (no, not the 1980s, the 2000s) you had a 1st grader and a COLLEGE grad in the same generation! 20 years from now the gap between 62 and 47 won't seem as huge, but it'll still be there.

And some restaurants don't let you call ahead. There's one not too far from me that doesn't take reservations for less than 10 people. (And then you can't get seated until the whole party is there.) They always have a line during peak times which is why I always try to go either between lunch and dinner or after the dinner rush. Once in a while my mom will want to go during dinner and I just suck it up and stand in line while she sits on a bench, LOL.

My mom is mid 40s. I was a server recently. She was trying to set up a dinner for 12 people at a restaurant. When I asked if she called ahead, she said no. I told her we need to call ahead so they have time to accommodate us and they would appreciate it. She said no, they don’t take reservations. I still called. Guess what? It would be an hour wait and we had to go somewhere else. Because they had a party of 60 taking up most of the restaurant.
nahhh, the only reason my restaurant will take 12 people on short notice is bc we’re a hibachi restaurant (we have about 5 big tables that can seat ~20 people, and they cook your food in front of you) the last serving job i worked, we wouldn’t take parties over 10 on short notice because we had a whole process- had to clean the back room, set up the tables, get chairs, find a server or two wiling to do that many people on top of their other tables, and push everyone else’s food back on the list to get the party’s food out on time its a process, and we needed notice. hell, dine-in at my current place doesnt even have room for parties that big.

As a millennial, I have a tendency to tell people in the service industry "take your time, no rush." Mainly because I've worked in the service industry and it sucks. Also, because I dont like being rushed, so I don't demand it from other people.
