Let's Play Golden Sun 66: Scaling the Venus Lighthouse

  • Thanks to our high level and great equipment, the enemies here are nothing we can't handle and the puzzles are ones that I vaguely remember from my last time playing the game all those years ago. They're easy enough to figure out however, doing little more than slowing Isaac and his friends as they rise ever higher up the lighthouse. If they're lucky they might arrive there before Saturos and Menardi have lit the beacon; it'd certainly be more dramatic if that were the case.
This dungeon has the first and only point of no return in the game, right before the final encounters. While it's not labeled with a flashing neon sign declaring as such, those who've played all the way through will see the telltale sign that something big is about to happen: a psynergy stone. When you see one of those near the end of a dungeon, you know you're going to fight a tough battle.
Make sure you've done everything you want to in the game before you go past the point of no return, because if you're not ready for the final section and only have saves past it, you'll be in some serious bother. Fortunately it'd be quite challenging for a woefully unprepared party to get this far, but I imagine it can happen.
Let's hope Isaac and co are as ready as I think they are, eh?

Rest well, Aqua Sock. You were one of the mightiest (and undoubtedly the silliest) of Golden Sun's Unleash techniques.

And so with Issac acquiring the game's ultimate blade, the party climbs to the top of the Venus Lighthouse, ready to take on their destiny...
    This is gonna be good~

As far as I remember, the Wild Gryphon could potentially drop a Feathered Robe, the Grand Golem could potentially drop a Zodiac Wand and the Fenrir could potentially drop a Kikuichimonji.

The music of Venus Lighthouse is the best track in Golden Sun.

And now she drowned a Golem. I'm convinced that Mia's using cheat codes now.

There are two ways you can do that line, Kiko. The alternative is:
    Top Right - Straight
    Top Left - Right/Down Corner
    Bottom Left - Left/Down Corner
Basically swapping the upper two and moving the lower piece to the other side.

That's funny. Mia seemed to be getting the bad end of the deal when the Djinn were shuffled around, but so far she appears to have had the most one-hit kills in this dungeon thanks to that "Drown"-ability.
Also: 9:35 IMMA FIRIN' MAH LAZORRR!

Definitely enjoy the soundtracks to the Golden Sun games. Motoi Sakuraba also did the music for Star Ocean: The Second Story, and a fantastic work it was. Give it a lookup sometime if you're not familiar with the tunes.

Oh dear...how am I going to be able to stand the three-day wait for the final showdown with Saturos and Menardi?! I'm sure I'll find a way...
On a side note, I do agree that the Venus Lighthouse music is quite fantastic and gives you the sense that you're approaching the end of your journey. I wonder what amazing musical tracks can be found in the sequel? Perhaps if I either play it at some point or you end up doing a Let's Play of it, I'll find out if the second game's soundtrack is even better than the first game's music!

Well, I wouldn't say "never", since the sequel is about the other two lighthouses. It's really more of a second half to this game than a true sequel.

Camelot Software (developers) always did that kind of stuff with their franchises. Not only the whole content wouldn't fit the cartridge, but also it makes for a perfect sequel.
Shining Force 3 is a perfect example of that: a trilogy and three other amazing games by them - also with Motoi Sakuraba's magic musical touch. So yes, you can expect the music to be good.

But it's the Venus lighthouse. You know, the element of Earth. Water is in the Mercury lighthouse, which we already did.
