  • There's no climate justice without social justice. Rich countries are mainly responsible for climate change, yet climate change is disproportionately affecting the world’s poorest. Meanwhile, #BlackLivesMatter has forced the climate movement to reckon with racism and racial inequality. In this video, we unpack the roots of global inequality and explain why climate justice and environmental justice matter - and how you can be a part of the change.

Good video but the one point on XR climbing on trains is a little off. They weren't protesting the trains. The Trains run on electricity that comes form coal fired power plants . They where trying to attract attention to that fact . Sabotaging the electrical grid is Illegal and could get them prison time but disrupting the grid and the systems that use it is not Illegal. XR did and does publish news releases explaining the reason behind their actions. the News media doesn't publish these very often. Most news groups get their funding from fossil fuel industries. In the case of News Corp Rupert Murdock and most his investors make most of their money from Fossil Fuels. Any News Corp media outfit such as Fox News will omit and/or spin any info of their funding source . A vast majority of the working class in the US get their info from Fox or other similar news groups I don't know about the UK but most likely the working class does get their info from news corp or similar groups and news people like anti climate change and anti vegan Piers Morgan. One of the things that XR was hoping for is that when the people who ride the trains hear about the dirty coal that run them they would join them in the protest. It back fired due to 1 the media misinformation and apathy . Even if people claim they care about the environment most are not willing to step out of their comfort zones to do anything about it. I know some people where I live (Working class) they buy an EV and recycle plastic then they pat them selves on the back as if they are some great environmentalist. If you ask them to get involved they are more interested in watching the football(American) game on their big screen TV . I am part of the American working class. I have been an environmentalist sense the mid 70s when I first learned about Greenpeace. I have tried to organize outreach and protest events but I find that most people who claim to support the actions are unwilling to participate due to some self-gratification activity . As for those train riders I have little sympathy for them because most if not all are unwilling to get out of their comfort zone to do something that could be beneficial to them in the long run. People who live below the poverty line and those who live in the Global south who haven't got the ability to do something about the industries and governments of the Global north inactions are more of a victim of climate change then people of working class Global North. The over consumerism of the working/middle class of the Global North are/is a major contributing factor in the climate problems. Second to the very rich .

Climate Justice for me simply means, rich countries or economies should pay climate risk costs caused by their development projects in their countries for consequences resulting in developing countries

Developing countries import much of their energy, food, and other goods from said rich or highly industrial countries (i.e. China). If these developing countries could garner such capital, they would turn into the same countries that you are referencing.

For me, climate change is the direct consequence of two factors: one internal to the planet linked to the excessive exploitation of non-renewable resources by unscrupulous human beings blinded by the greed for money and power according to the unsustainable capitalist-imperialist speculative model that is leading to the depletion of natural resources through the uncontrolled deforestation of the green lungs of the Earth, such as the Amazon rainforest, the Siberian taiga and the Californian forests: all this has already led to the economic impoverishment of the communities of Native Indians living there and that should be protected, because losing the local floristic biodiversity means losing even these local native communities forever.
Another factor external to the Planet not to be underestimated regarding the Global Warming in progress depends on a factor that many academic scientists dangerously underestimate, astronomical factors external to the Planet, such as the strong solar activity of these years and factors such as tilt of the Earth's axis, the eccentricity of the Earth's orbit and the angular momentum of the Earth. These are factors that have a minor impact on climate change, but in any case they exert an influence on the planet that must not be neglected.
I personally am an environmental technician at the University of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region in Italy and for years I have been self-taught the effects of climate change on the planet's habitats and on the communities living within them: I wrote a thesis on "Geoengineering, new artificial methods to counter Global Warming ", a pioneering and very current thesis in light of sudden climate changes, which we have been witnessing especially in the last 15 years, I talked about CDR methods for limiting carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and SRM methods for the management of solar radiation: among the CDR methods I spoke specifically of the techniques of afforestation or afforestation and of natural optimization of the carbon cycle, therefore I invite you to read my thesis in Italian and which I will soon make available also in English.
I would like to be involved in one of your GLFx projects, look forward to your kind feedback on it, see you soon!

Rest assured that the thousands of climate scientists around the world don't underestimate the factors "external to the planet" that lead to (and have led to, for billions of years) natural climate variation. But this time, current global warming and climate change are mostly anthropogenic, due mainly to the ±40 billion tons of extra greenhouse gases that we're emitting into the atmosphere every year.
Re your thesis on geoengineering, I use the metaphor of anaphylactic shock. If we had used our "epi-pen" 2 or 3 decades ago (transitioning in a steady, equitable manner to renewable energy technologies), we wouldn't need a tracheotomy (drastic cuts in carbon emissions, possibly implementing geoengineering strategies) to help us breathe/survive.

@@greenhearted8453 I expressed myself badly regarding the underestimation of factors external to the planet: I meant that several Italian scientists in my country tend to minimize the effects external to it, all except the physicist of the INFN laboratories of Gran Sasso Antonino Zichichi, who attributes the current Global warming mostly due to causes attributable to solar geomagnetic activity and minimally to human activities which, as far as I'm concerned, is a partially short-sighted position, but still partially correct, because the real problem that is increasing the Greenhouse Effect in our Planet is not only due to CO2, which is harmful only in very high concentrations, i.e. from 4000 ppm upwards, but above all to the main climate-altering gases par excellence: water vapor H2O which is increasing due to the indiscriminate cutting of trees in the main forests of the planet (Amazon, Siberia and California) fruit of disreputable people who want to maximize their profits ti, they have no qualms about cutting trees to make room for illegal concrete structures and to know how water vapor affects the increase in humidity in the clouds, it is enough to study and deepen the feedback mechanism of water vapor, then must be considered the emissions of methane gas (CH4) due to prospecting activities on land and in the sea in search of this gas, which is the simplest of the family of hydrocarbons and then must also be considered the artificial human contribution given by chemtrails that each day and for years they have been emitted into the stratosphere by both civil and military aircraft that use sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) for aerosol activities to try to obscure the light of the Sun and try to decrease the amount of UV radiation coming from the Sun , for which I believe that the current climatic changes depend in equal measure both on the clandestine human activities of artificial modification of the climate and on the variation of the at solar geomagnetic activity.

@@alessiobrancaccio2308 Your response is a fascinating mix of facts and misconceptions. Thanks for sharing. I know the Italian scientists you speak of. The publication of their "work" has been widely critiqued.
Since agriculture developed over the last ±11,000 years when both the global climate and the atmospheric CO2 concentration (278 ppm) were stable, a 50% increase in CO2 (we're currently at 418 ppm) due to human burning of fossil fuels (etc.) is destabilizing the climate and impacting our food security. That's pretty much the end of the story.

Please do a video on the environmental dangers of mining for lithium and Cobalt. While you’re at it look at the human costs that comes along with making your electric car. The cost of being “green” all too often comes at the expense of an under age miner in Africa! The green movement is more guilty of environmental and human rights violations than the coal miners and rigs providing the world with oil. I’m not against alternative forums of energy but we must be smart about it. Solar panels are environmental hazards! They are far from being green to produce, and they eventually need to be disposed of. How will you dispose of them safely? The truth is there are no solutions, there’s only trade offs. And let’s refrain from the anti-colonialist speech which began with Mao Zedong. No society is perfect, and slavery was a world wide phenomenon which was mostly stomped out by the “colonial west”. Please try to do more balanced videos I the future instead of being cheerleading for corruption organizations like the UN.

And the compensations having to be paid out by richer countries to the most affected areas of climate change, the health care costs of people getting sick from air pollution both mentally and physichally the heavy metalls emitted by cars really damage the brain and in highly polluted areas criminality is more comon.
