  • ECHO India, in collaboration with Project ECHO and the University of New Mexico (USA), has launched a pilot project called "ECHO for Gender Equity in Schools." This initiative aims to empower educators and schools to champion gender equality within their educational institutions and communities. It seeks to raise awareness among educators about gender-related issues.
In India, gender inequality persists, leading to disparities in various areas such as education, career opportunities, social practices, political participation, and employment. The program will leverage ECHO networks to bring together communities periodically throughout the school year. Grounded in behavior design principles, it provides educators with a platform to introspect their belief systems, conditioning, biases, and behaviors. They will critically examine their classroom culture, curriculum, and teaching practices to promote gender inclusivity.
The "ECHO for Gender Equity" program has garnered participation from 95 teachers representing 40 schools across 13 states in India. It is poised to drive positive change in the educational landscape, fostering gender equality and inclusiveness.
