Another outstanding performance by David Archuleta. People usually sing along to the National Anthem. I noticed the people in attendance were so in awe of David's performance that only one gentleman is seen singing along with David (at :48) throughout the entire video.
what must it feel like... to be asked to sing our National Anthem, on the 4th of July, at our Nations Capitol, at 19 years old, in front of a quarter of a million people LIVE, and millions of people watching on television?!! MAGNIFICENT!!!!! such an angel sent from heaven with an angelic voice. he is such an inspiation to a lot of fans of his. im so glad he's my favorite singer.
Aw. This was amazing. It's so cool that out of all the people, he was the one who got to perform the Star Spangled Banner on the forth of July at the Nation's capital. It's so great. For being so young, he's incredibly talented and has definately gotten so many once in a lifetime opportunities. This was brilliant and although you couldn't hear him that well, it didnt matter. His voice makes up for it. Gives you chills.

Only those who surpassed his level of singing can have the nerve to critisize, otherwise they just reveal their envy and insecurity.

I actually think I have become so accustomed to hearing David sing the SSB acapella , so brilliantly, that the orchestra, and choir as good as they sounded...almost irritated me! haha (also, I understand that for those who were at the event, they did not hear the mic. cut off. Only the people listening to it on the tv heard that.

The reason you couldn't hear him at certain points was because the microphone was not working right. It had nothing to do with his singing, and what proves he is a fantastic singer he didn't miss a beat even though the microphone went out.

@bionicrat - Yes, he should have pushed it out more especially under that type of orchestrated sound. Definitely sounded good but not loud enough as his voice is known to project. You have your views, it's okay.

@Sakura52296 The one drop-out of his voice was the venue's fault - they lost the mike audio for a couple of seconds. you can clearly hear him finishing a word when the mike sound comes back. I agree his mike should have been louder with a better band vs David balance like in the dress rehearsal. But he did a really nice job especially in a hot suit and tightened tie in 90+ degree weather. And what are you saying about autotune? He despises autotune.

@fenny23 - Oh, the autotune, that was regarding his new song which I like but prefer something more natural. Yeah, the sound checks have to be up to par or it will make the performance appear questionable. I think. My view on it.
@retroviolet - It was okay. He wasn't able to really use that voice of his as far as sounding more clear and loud. He typically has a strong voice and loose vibrato. Didn't hear that for this song. His vibrato was too tight and there were points where you couldn't hear him. He needed to sing louder than the orchestra which comes with daily vocal exercises. Also needs to learn to let loose and relax because it shows in his deliverance of the song. I guess this is where the auto tune comes in?

I've been trying to find a singer who doesn't depict the national anthem as some way to gain money or popularity. This is the only fully respectable singing. I was at a college graduation yesterday, where 3 ladies sang it as they would sing some other song.
Well its not about the singer its about the song. If you somebody does sang its diffrenty that how there feeling and how there emotions is !! Not everybody does it the same it kinda gets boring listen to the same melody over and over its good to change thangs up and make it your own

I think management should have instructed the orchestra differently. David has a strong voice but not a powerhouse type to have handled the overwhelming orchestra. I don't know everything about David's voice but I do know about voice. I also will back up David but that doesn't mean I should have your same views.

He was overpowered by the orchestra and was not heard well enough. He definitely can be an outstanding singer but as one mentioned, it was not his best effort this time. Just being honest here.
@mhelchuleta - I didn't get heartfelt it was very typical. If only he would have interpreted the song the way Marvin Gaye delivered it. That's the style and tempo that would have bee good for his voice. Surprisingly, nothing really spectacular just typical. He needs to sing in a mid-tempo soulful style to get the best of his vocal talent I think for any song but not bad.
@1isallineed - That is funny. Again, you don't have to scream it you have a natural powerhouse voice like Celine or Charice and probably some others. Sure it was a lovely version but in my perspective I felt that it was low key due to the overbearing orchestra that's all.

It's sad how hard it is to find a respectable rendition of our country's national anthem on RUclips. I think singing it straight, landing squarely on each note, and leaving out sensual and emotional elements is not too much to ask. Sorry, but this doesn't do much for me. Mr. Archuleta is a very talented performer and composer. But I think all the scooping, sliding, and other sensual elements have no place in this sacred and dignified masterpiece. I know my opinion is among the minority, but I don't apologize for it.

It's sad how hard it is to find a respectable rendition of our country's national anthem on RUclips. I think singing it straight, landing squarely on each note, and leaving out sensual and emotional elements is not too much to ask.
Sorry, but this doesn't do much for me. Mr. Archuleta is a very talented performer and composer. But I think all the scooping, sliding, and other sensual elements have no place in this sacred and dignified masterpiece.
I know my opinion is among the minority, but I don't apologize for it.
