Wird Gottes Majestät verehrt.
Denn schallet nur der Geist darbei,
So ist ihm solches ein Geschrei,
Das er im Himmel selber hört.
Die Welt kann so schlecht nicht sein: schliesslich gibt es den Trost durch und ja auch die Freude an Bachscher Musik und die immer wieder herzerhebenden Interpretationen der Musiker der Bachstiftung. Wir hören sie voller Dankbarkeit!

Proof that you don't need excessive vibrato to sing pieces like this. Nuria's voice--along with her dress, hair, and makeup--are just sweetly, unaffectedly beautiful.
Vibrato in music of this period is a definite NO. Which is why Nuria and Emma (Kirkby) can never be matched in this repertory.

It's not that vibrato is an absolute no in an HIP. It's an ornament. If you listen to her singing she is using it in the same way. @@rautibo

At 3:40 Nuria Rial sings so surprisingly and beautifully that the rather stony oboist in the background can't help smiling. Her singing is really beautiful, the tone of the gut strung violin is also excellent
John Holloway is one of the finest players of Bach I've heard. And I'm going back to the 70s.

Kenneth Masters To hear Núria singing some of the most technically demanding of Monteverdi's madrigals and STILL look as if she's enjoying every second says it all. They are well worth looking for, even if the overall interpretations (not hers) are not to everyone's taste. She is extraordinarily gifted. She is, I think, the true holder of the torch lit so wonderfully by Emma.
Sorry but I think Nuria Rial's voice is in an entirely different league to Kirkby's, with infintely greater colour, timbre, resonance and amazing virtuousity.
I listen to and watch this extraordinary performance and think "Life is good!". Thank you all.

It's now been about 15 years! I first heard her with Philippe Jaroussky at the height of his career as a counter-tenor. He was - and still is superb - but her performances at least matched his for superb artistry and the most beautifully complex, 'coloured and textured' voice I have ever heard. She is a phenomenon but possibly too modest to get the kind of world renown this kind of magic really deserves. Unequalled as a singer!

Nuria Rial's voice is so sweet and pure and somehow rich at the same time. She sings Bach as wonderfully as she does Monteverdi.

Agree! The oboist simply standing in the background looks absolutely stunned by Nuria Rial's delicate but artistically colourful leaps! The multi-dimensional colours, always varying timbre and magnificent use of vibrato leave me quite astounded. There are a substantial number of baroque sopranos but I believe her voice is absolutely unique!
