When we wanted NASCAR to go to Nashville…..we meant here not the SuperSpeedway
They will be going to the Fairgrounds soon. They just needed time to update the facilities to modern day standards. But they wanted to rebuild the interest in the market which is why they're racing at Nashville Superspeedway until the Fairgrounds is deemed ready.
Karens and "booming real estate markets" also are preventing it.
Why not one race each? Super speedway has had decent racing the the next gen.
The next gen will put on a terrible short track race and everyone will blame the track
The next gen cars would race awful here.
Besides, the big track is good and provides good racing, and it should have been on the cup schedule all along.
Not saying the short track is bad, just saying the big track is good too and has always belonged on the cup schedule. Idk why they waited until 2021 to add it
I was in the stands for this race. With about 10 laps remaining Mr. Warner Hogden walked to the railing of the boxed seats right next to me. Nice shirt & cufflinks etc. but when his 2 Johnson/Hodgen team cars (Waltrip & Bonnett) came barreling out of the 4th turn for that chaotic finish, Mr. Hodgden was banging his fist on that railing & yelling just like any other passionate NASCAR fan.
Six manufacturers in the race
1. Chevy 2. Ford 3. Buick 4. Pontiac 5. Oldsmobile 6. Chrysler
Miss those days!
Buick And Chevrolet Dominated NASCAR Winston Cup Series From The 80s And Early 90s
Chevy did very well, Buick and Olds made the podium in the early 80s, late 80s and early 90s were when Ford, Million dollar Bill, Davey and Robert Yates and the Wood brothers kinda spoiled the party.
Hearing Dave Despain, and Ken Squire cover a race at my home track has filled me with great joy
🍻Love watching these vintage races!! 🏁
Ken Squier had a God Tier Voice in that Booth, and I didn't know Ken and Benny were together here, I always thought Benny was with Bob Jenkins. Man it would have been Cool to have Ken, BP, Ned, and Buddy in the CBS Booth Back then
I'm glad good footage exists of a race with Darrell in his prime. Yea, we remember him for his goofiness as an announcer but I think new fans forget just how good he was for so long. Him and Dale going at it at the beginning of the race is cool to see.
Agreed! When he was in Jr's cars they were a problem for the field every week.
You think this is cool, and it is, but watch the Spring Richmond race in 1986!! Also an obscure Waltrip-Earnhardt battle is in the 1979 World 600. Both are fantastic.
Being born in 1991, im so thankful these videos exist. I love being able to watch the legends i grew up hearing about.
420! 🤘🤙
The infamous last lap, Waltrip/Bonnett fiasco
The following Monday NASCAR reversed the decision and declared Waltrip the winner.
After watching the Dale Jr Download with Kyle and Richard Petty, I wonder if King Richard already watched this one and it’s been online just a few short hours!
Man, I didn't get to see ole Neil win too often but he plum drove his butt off on this night hell he earned that victory. I'm sure Junior didn't give a shit if it was Darrell & Bonnett, all he knew was that one of his cars won that sumbytch...
We used to go there when I was younger back in the 70s sure miss those days, thanks for the video
i was at this race and every cup race at nashville since 71 and this was the next to last race here as 84 was last year in nashville
Respect to the ARCA East series for still going here annually.
Wow, what a great race with a chaotic ending! "Who's on First? Who's on second!?!?" 😆 And then everyone crashes AFTER the race is over! Oh man, I miss this kind of NASCAR!
1984 really cool year for NASCAR
It's a damn shame these companies and fans who built NASCAR was dumped by them. Miss the old days. ☹️
I was a brand new baby when this race took place
The last ever Cup Series race at the Fairgrounds. We'll be back there soon, so the Karens can get outta there
1:13:25 the difference was the blue trim
Would love to see this come back!!!
Back when "TBS" was "WTBS." Channel 17 on your TV dial boys and girls!
Here in San Diego TBS was a “superstation” on channel 27
DW owned this racetrack in his prime. He was pretty much the guy to beat everytime the circuit came to Nashville. This was a time when NASCAR actually cared about its fan base. You’ll never see these days scsi.
How did in-car cameras work in 1984?
OMG, WHAT A TRACK!!! ⚡💥🎉🏁
I Like Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway From The 70s Iconic Short Track In My Opinion NASCAR History
What a finish!!!
2:38:15 Benny Parsons (and the whole of NASCAR) misinterprets the rule “when the yellow flag displays DURING the white flag lap”. By vision, the yellow flag and white flag displayed at the same time. But when they say “during”, they really mean “during the last lap”, not “during the waving of the white flag”. The caution flag flew the lap before the white flag lap, meaning that the field should have held position and given Waltrip the win, not Bonnett. They eventually rectify this, but not during the broadcast.
Benny Parsons reading the rulebook on live TV! That is good coverage, now the guys in charge wouldn't let the TV commentators SNIFF that rulebook today!!
The rule book looks like an encyclopedia Botanica collection. 😂😂😂takes a rocket scientist to find the rule and a philly attorney to figure it out.😂😂
Hopefully when cup comes to the fairgrounds they'll run the 420 laps like the 80s.
Last lap chaos
Those 11 and 12 cars were in another zip code.
Id like to race the crown vics here
This is NASCAR racing, not the shit we’re stuck with today. Go Earnhardt!
"Small holocaust at the finish line" -- Back in the good old days when you could say fun things.
One of the greatest short tracks in the country. I'd highly recommend checking out the ARCA series when it's here and the All American 400 late model race. The " super speedway" is a joke AND NOT EVEN IN NASHVILLE! Branding is why it's called Nashville Super Speedway even though it's 3 towns east and 30+ miles away. From the fairgrounds, you're 10 minutes from Broadway if that long. The nostalgia in Nashville is being pushed aside for gentrification, branding and maximum profits. Just look at downtown Broadway, it's a preview of what's to come downtown. No more history, just brands. Shame.
noice
If I waa incharge as in bill France Sr..I would demand every driver take a drug and alcohol test before they leave the track....I would demand every official and every announcer to do the same. They drove at the end like they were drunk and the officials acted drunk and definitely the announcers must 5ave been drunk
Has iracing scanned this track yet???
irenting has it. Tony Stewart has it in the SRX game and you only have to pay once and own it forever
Where can i watch a live SRX race?
Typical night. Just a shit show
I was at this race and have a few nice shots of driver intros..
