Climbing Stick VS Silent Approach Steps

- This video portrays the silent approach step climbing system vs a standard climbing stick climbing system. Both are useful and both will be used by me. The video I mentioned is viewable here • Climbing Stick Trick
I love the honesty in your reviews of products. I have been contemplating these steps a lot for lightening my public setup but just watching you hang 3 silent approach steps, I already made my choice. Never mind the fact that the time takes longer, they didn't seem safe or stable whatsoever. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for checking out my videos. I appreciate it. God bless you.

Great video! Love the honesty. have you done any reviews on the ring of steps?
Thank you..sorry, I have not tried that one. God bless you
I think the sticks will be more efficient for me. 😀👍
Thank you for the demo.
God bless you!
You’re welcome
Idk if anyone has said this, but it would be a lot easier and safer to attach your first 3-4 silent approach steps from the ground. It would keep you from having to dangle any more than absolutely necessary.
If it was me, I’d use a combination of the sticks and silent steps. Use only as many silent steps as I could reach from the ground, and sticks the rest of the way. Might be able to cut out one stick’s carry weight while still having the traditional climbing sticks once you leave the ground.
Yup practicing the spacing could definitely enable one to do that, but I’d probably only reach three. Also, I really don’t mind hanging on the side of a tree, I actually like it.
Three Cranford rope steps fastened from the ground gets me just over six feet. Another three puts me just over twelve. A seventh at fifteen feet. Seven Cranford's cost me about $70.00, weigh six pounds ( 9.5 oz each), and go into my day pack or side pockets with room to spare. Four sticks run about 125.00-$150.00, weigh two plus- pounds each and must be packed on ones back along with the stand adding about another ten pounds and bulk to be transported.
enjoy it
Thank you Sean, good demonstration, honest feedback. Continue to be blessed.
Thanks, you too!
Thanks for demonstrating these. I'm more of a spot & stalk hunter. Many recommend I get a tree stand, and I'm considering it, but I'm not one that likes to carry more equipment than I need.
The silent steps would be a good option for someone trying to keep things as light as possible.
Great comparison Sean. I'm in the category of climbing tree fear. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable enough to use a system like that. Great option for those who do not have a fear of climbing trees.
Thanks
Cool to see a different method. But I think I'll stick with my Summit Viper climber for now. And wouldn't you have to bring a hang-on stand along with you? If so, wouldn't that beat your lightweight benefit?
Enjoy it
Also, most people use these with a saddle as opposed to a stand and saddles only weigh about a pound, so your total weight with these steps and saddle is about 7 pounds.
I'd never heard of saddles until you mentioned them. They look like a rock climbing harness. Interesting stuff.
Great comparison video. Each would work well in the right set-up situation. Hiking deep in the woods the silent approach steps would work better. I used to use the climbing sticks, but since I hit 50 and am not as flexible as I used to be (yes, I need to work out more) and mainly just use my climber now. Anyway, nice video, as I have never seen the silent approach steps before. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Steve! God bless ya
The strap steps are real easy to use once you get the hang of them... I have been using steps like these for over 15 years..
Awesome
The sticks seemed a whole lot easier to use.
Thanks
I agree! Sticks for me! And maybe side by side for the last ones to create a standing platform for a hanging saddle?
I agree. I was looking at the silent approach to reduce weight but after watching this video, the extra 7.5lbs with sticks seems to be worth it after all
Sean, when are you going to start saddle hunting? You can still use the sticks and save weight and money by not having multiple stands. Plus it's safer.
A company contacted me about five months ago asking me to review their saddle. They then had a list of setbacks in production. About a month ago they said they’d be able to get it to me soon. I’m still waiting on that.
I think 4 strap-on steps with one (or two) climbing sticks on top for stability is light weight ,safer, and best of both worlds. Works for me.
Yup could be a good combo
Nice fenced garden with lovely white cottages in background. Do you live there ?Many deer?
Yes
Tip
Keep steps no more than 3” -4” left to right to keep them from rolling or sliding around tree
Fabulous
you could use an aider with the sticks and be able to space your sticks out much more, you should be able to get over 20 feet high with the addition of an aider
I take it you did not see my video on that.
Hey Sean. I was looking at vids for this product and when I saw that you'd done a vid on them it was an instant "Click"... Let's see what Sean says about them. Thanks for the vid amigo.
Thanks, John. God bless ya
Love my xop sticks!
They are nice
Kinda wish I would've got xop sticks instead of lone wolf
Be careful using those small ones brother. What sticks are you using the first time?
The silent approach steps i used for the first time.
Sean's Outdoor Adventures the other ones
Xop climbing sticks
The tutorial on the silent approach website has you place three on the tree from the ground (knee, chest, head) climb to the top two, then place repeat the last two (chest head) etc. one at a time seems to take more time.
Sounds good, give it a try.
hawk helium work great and don't weigh much good luck this year
Nice
Yeah I got the Hawk Helium sticks this year and did the rope mod. It’s my favorite set up to date! Great video Sean!
Wish they did a 4 pack. I have the xop sticks and they are ok. Still have to install my bolt kit to make them safe which is a little annoying
Missed your hunting videos Sean😁
Can’t wait till I get out hunting again.. have you been following my Map Reading Challenge channel?
I have not. I will now. What is the link?

You're outdoors. You're going to get demonitized.
Lol I guess so!
If you start eating soy it counteracts that and you can still monetize
@@chuckswayzee sounds like a tasty solution!

Those steps look pretty cumbersome
They aren’t bad just takes a little getting used to
Thanks Sean , you did a good job for first time out of the box ! They are not for everyone for sure, and they do take some getting used to and practice. They are solid once the principles are learned. I remember the first time I shot a compound bow, I hit my arm, stuck my arrow in a tree and hated it ! Then I learned the little things such as grip , elbow rotation etc. And I'm sure glad I stuck with it ... I sure love my bow now ! And I honestly love these steps !! Good luck ! And thanks again .
Yeah, I think these steps are going to come in REAL handy in a lot of my hunting situations. I like how light they are. Can't beat it. And I could tell while I was using them that although I wasn't smooth on the first go, I know I can get the hang of it quick. I've got a rut hunt in mind that is a bit of a hike and I am already planning on using these as I need a hang on for that setup. Thanks again for letting me try them.
Sean's Outdoor Adventures My pleasure ! Good luck !!
Has anyone just used cleats and a strap?
I’ve seen it done but on public land you have to watch damaging the trees.
Sticks all the way

You should try the stepp ladder I think wildlife edge is making those now they set up quick and are super easy and light compared to the sticks
If they send me a set I will try them. I'm not going to buy them though. It isn't in my budget.
I totally understand that. They are a little expensive as well but for stealth and easy setup I think they would work great for your style of hunting especially packing in for good distances
I second the step ladder system. Wild Edge is the company and they are awesome! 1 lb each and rock solid once you get the hang of installing correctly. If you investigate the use of the "Knaider & Swaider" (DIY aiders) with these steps (www.saddlehunter.com) you can use four steps to get to 24' with only four things to attach. That's only four pounds of steps that all fit inside your backpack to get 20+ feet! Sold my sticks as soon as I learned of this method.
I just looked him up. I actually tested them out before it was his product. It's a long story how he ended up with it, but the guy before him sent me a set to do a product review. When I snapped them onto a tree they ripped right through the bark real bad. I couldn't use them on public land in PA at that time because I would have gotten fined if I used them as is. I told the guy to just make a rubber cleat to go on the bottom so that the metal didn't rip into the bark so bad, but he ignored me and asked me to not post the video. I was respectful of his business and didn't post it.
