    You should have spent a little bit more time making this. The stickout on the shaft was way too high, you should have used a live center. The threads on the shaft leave to be desired (hence the horrendous runout). Lastly, welding the square piece aligned by eye is not the best option for precision.
    In the end, the finished product looks like what it should be but isn’t really usable as is.

    Hi folks, don't hammer bearings, it damages them. Don't hammer things held in the lathe chuck, it damages it's bearings .....

  • @jimzivny1554
    @jimzivny1554 3 года назад +11

    I think I'd spend a little more for a quality chuck to put on the shaft, the runout was horrible. Good project though

    • @eniregnat
      @eniregnat 3 года назад +2

      That chuck can't be that crap. It might be the thread. Should have cut the thread with the lathe instead of die. Or buy an ER chuck with straight shank.

    • @MrF4eable
      @MrF4eable 3 года назад +4

      The threads would have needed to be cut with the lathe rather than by hand. And the shaft would have needed to be machined with a rotating center...

    Should of welded before you inserted bearings, maybe take off just a little more where the bearings went in? Looked like something was warped somewhere

    Great video! I'm still new to machining so I have a noob question, why do you bore upside down in reverse? I have see a few people thread this way but never noticed anyone else boring this way. Curiosity peaks my interest. Thanks again for the great content.

    • @LavaDonuts
      @LavaDonuts Год назад +2

      From what I've seen online, there can be alot of different reasons to run a lathe in reverse with upside-down tools. While I don't know about this specific case, sometimes it can be so if there's a lack of rigidity, the tool can deflect upwards and away from the work rather than be pulled down and into the work, scraping your work, artisan makes has a video where he mounts a parting blade upside-down and this was his general explanation

    You will bore finished after can't welding.but you will do that.the bearing seating not accuracy.The bearing hub make line bore only.

    Great job! I recomend you use conical bearings due to the load they recibe and try to add adjustable height for doing diferent opperations. Greets from Uruguay

      @@ильяФедоров-я8я Он проточил вал без задней бабки, это не смущает? У него нет никакого натяга в подшипниках (забитых молотком). Он сделал несколько перестановок детали в трехкулачковом патроне. Патрон посажен не на конус и вообще взят от ручного инструмента. Он вообще наплевал на всю технологию изготовления (и похоже сознательно наплевал).

    Have to wonder if you know what a center drill is used for?

    • @Henry-gj7mr
      @Henry-gj7mr 2 года назад

      Really ? Just because someone names it a "centre drill" doesn't mean that's it's exclusive use to use it on the centre of work pieces. It provides a "centre" that you can then use for other procedures, (for a steady or further drilling perhaps?). Give it a try on other applications, you might surprise yourself.

    La idea es buena, pero el eje está totalmente con movimiento. Lástima que ese eje con los rodamientos no esté justo como debería. Como dije antes, la idea es buena pero el trabajo está mal realizado ya que quien lo fabrica se supone que es un tornero

    Wow! You did a fantastic job making a lathe-mounted semi-random hole generator!
    Wait, it’s supposed to be a milling tool? Are you sure?? I thought those were supposed to be made where you have at least some amount of control over the accuracy that they can produce. This is actually kind of a shitty one of those.
    Oh well… at least it might still be somewhat useful for woodworking.

    The inside race of the bearing protrudes beyond the outside race, which means when you hammer on the inside race your peening the balls against both races. The bearing is ruined.
