You should have spent a little bit more time making this. The stickout on the shaft was way too high, you should have used a live center. The threads on the shaft leave to be desired (hence the horrendous runout). Lastly, welding the square piece aligned by eye is not the best option for precision.
In the end, the finished product looks like what it should be but isn’t really usable as is.
I'm thinking he wasn't aiming for precision.
Not very rigid either.
Hi folks, don't hammer bearings, it damages them. Don't hammer things held in the lathe chuck, it damages it's bearings .....
I think I'd spend a little more for a quality chuck to put on the shaft, the runout was horrible. Good project though
That chuck can't be that crap. It might be the thread. Should have cut the thread with the lathe instead of die. Or buy an ER chuck with straight shank.
The threads would have needed to be cut with the lathe rather than by hand. And the shaft would have needed to be machined with a rotating center...
Interesting. Kinda like an indexing system, of sorts?
Learning a lot of things from videos like this one. Great job.
Finally I do Not see any milling work
Should of welded before you inserted bearings, maybe take off just a little more where the bearings went in? Looked like something was warped somewhere
Very nice work.
Sorry ,but this is a bit agricultural. Plus your title is very misleading ,I think it's called "clickbait"
I notice his thanks replies are only returned on positive comments by viewers with comparable knowledge. Use the criticisms to learn from, as they are the ones you should be thanking.
I can try your idea in my workshop, sir, thanks for the idea..🤝🤝🤝🤝
Great video! I'm still new to machining so I have a noob question, why do you bore upside down in reverse? I have see a few people thread this way but never noticed anyone else boring this way. Curiosity peaks my interest. Thanks again for the great content.
From what I've seen online, there can be alot of different reasons to run a lathe in reverse with upside-down tools. While I don't know about this specific case, sometimes it can be so if there's a lack of rigidity, the tool can deflect upwards and away from the work rather than be pulled down and into the work, scraping your work, artisan makes has a video where he mounts a parting blade upside-down and this was his general explanation
cool project and neat idea but that chuck runout gave me a headache...
This chuck has no smooth movement
You will bore finished after can't welding.but you will do that.the bearing seating not accuracy. The bearing hub make line bore only.
Great job! I recomend you use conical bearings due to the load they recibe and try to add adjustable height for doing diferent opperations. Greets from Uruguay
They are called tapered roller bearings.
The quick change tool post gives a degree of adjustment in height.
Don't grab the swarf off a running lathe, you could loose half an index finger doing that, thank for the vid though
the attachment is way off line..the drill is vibrating mate.... looks good but isn't accurate...
Have to wonder if you know what a center drill is used for?
Really ? Just because someone names it a "centre drill" doesn't mean that's it's exclusive use to use it on the centre of work pieces. It provides a "centre" that you can then use for other procedures, (for a steady or further drilling perhaps?). Give it a try on other applications, you might surprise yourself.

I used one once as a fork. Gotta say I wasn’t impressed. And it took forever to finish my dinner that night!
Own bussness panna evlo money pargalam bro
Wow! You did a fantastic job making a lathe-mounted semi-random hole generator!
Wait, it’s supposed to be a milling tool? Are you sure?? I thought those were supposed to be made where you have at least some amount of control over the accuracy that they can produce. This is actually kind of a shitty one of those.
Oh well… at least it might still be somewhat useful for woodworking.
Bravo
Very, Very , good job .
Thanks
Good job. We posted this video in our homemade tools forum this week :)
Nice and simple....👍
Thanks
Why does everyone on RUclips weld this way? Like they all learned how to weld from the same video of an Indian welding automotive body panels with a rickety stick welder.
Runout so bad.....makes one wonder
Good tool 😺
Why do you have the boring bar upside down? And at that strange angle?
Idea is good, Precision not so much.
Slow the video down Dude...It would be nice to hear your commentry..
nice work
Thanks ☺️
The inside race of the bearing protrudes beyond the outside race, which means when you hammer on the inside race your peening the balls against both races. The bearing is ruined.
Nearly Works..

Doveva fare il filetto preciso "col tornio"
Interesting, I reckon you could use that for milling in keyways etc on a round bar held in the lathe jaws.
Sorry. Videos at 4X speed are so hard to follow I always delete them.
