- In Super Mario Maker 2's final DLC update, the 7 Koopalings, Larry, Iggy, Wendy, Lemmy, Roy, Morton, and Ludwig were added into the game. This more than doubled the available bosses in Mario Maker 2 and allowed for so many new boss fight ideas to be possible. Each one of them got their own special mechanics that make them as bosses more unique. So today I've decided to cover all of the koopaling's special mechanics. So join me as I give tips, tricks, and ideas on how to use the 7 koopalings in your levels and boss fights in Super Mario Maker 2!

I think it’s also important to mention that Iggy’s magic moves faster than all the other Koopalings, making it a bit tougher to dodge
Yea
FINALLY! Somebody actually knows he shoots faster! ReVeLaTiOn!
That’s probably his best unique feature

Some further tips:
Iggy Never leaves the ground in most cases, so he’ll stay on platforms instead of jumping to another one, meaning he can be easily contained.
Ludwig (when winged) shoots out two sets of projectiles while in the air, increasing the number of projectiles further, Ludwig also will stay in the air until he finds a Plattform, he will shoot more projectiles if he is in the air for long enough.
Ludwig also has the fastest time for casting magic, meaning that if he’s in a small space where he can’t jump, he will constantly fire projectiles. If he jumps of a sideways spring, he’ll immediately shoot projectiles after landing, meaning that Ludwig can use sideways-springs to shoot more projectiles.
Ah yes, Ludwig, the bullet spammer
One that you missed: If Lemmy is placed 3 blocks (6 in Giant Lemmy's case) or less below a ceiling, he won't spawn his balancing ball and instead run up and down like Iggy due to not being able to fit otherwise

Every boss in SMM2 actually gets a unique move when given wings, and some of them when in clown cars too; I think, since you didn't cover any of the winged attacks in this video, having a seperate one for all of the bosses would be very interesting.
Yes, great idea! I can't beleive Oddysey Central didn't heart this comment. Mainly, I can't beleive that Oddysey Central forgot about the whole "Wings" and "Clown Car" mechanic!
Winged Bowser Jr. is probably the most unique as it renders him unable to fall to his death plus swaps his fireball attack for hammers. I've yet to come up with an interesting use for him, I just thought it was a really cool gimmick

@@SuperDZ555 no he's not!
I kinda like that Larry's basicness makes him extremely versatile to build around.
And in almost any idea where I can use Larry, I can use Ludwig to up the difficulty since he's Larry but more of everything.
I just realized this is where Larry from Scarlet and Violet got his name from!
Here's a fun fact for Morton: his Fire Spells will go flying off in the direction they were traveling upon reaching a ledge, but only if they're traveling on a Mushroom Platform or a One-Way Wall.
To give an example, have the main platform be a Mushroom platform, but don't have it touch the walls so that you can have a pit - or some lava - you don't want Mario to fall into. The Fire Spells will climb up the wall, and unto the ceiling. (if you have one) Now, put two One-Way Walls on the ceiling. (having one face left, and the other facing right) Now when the Fire Balls slide along it and reach the edge, they'll fly back to the battle arena.
If properly placed, this can make a classic boss fight against Morton a bit more challenging. (I hope I explained this well!)
I managed to use the one way walls to repurpose Morton into a Sumo Bro, he shoots his fire downwards now
also clouds
I love the creativity the koopalings add for level ideas and boss fight ideas great addition honestly
Ludwig is in your walls.
Every koopaling with wings explained
Larry: he jumps higher into the air.
Iggy: he will hop instead of run in the same pattern
Wendy: jumps higher
Lemmy: will hop towards you
Roy: will pop his head out multiple times, if popping out of the floor he will be in the air and shoot magic at you before landing
Morton: will cancel his ground pound if you are in the air and resume when you are on the ground.
He will do this up to two times before pounding.
Ludwig: will fire, jump into the air and will shoot two more times before landing down.
Whenever Roy digs into the ground, he goes into the Backrooms and, since he has mastered this realm, he is able to enter and exit it at whim, and uses it to quickly get around (1 ft in Backrooms = 10 ft in our world)
Roy has a Nether ice road
Similar to Minecraft. 1 block in the Nether = 8 blocks in the Overworld!
Yeah, I definitely feeling like making a level with lots of Lemmy's and Morton's eventually as creative roadblocks along the way.
I find it interesting how they seem to be based more on NSMBW than NSMBU. I'm not complaining though, considering it's my favorite game of all time lol
Sad NSMB2 fan noises
NSMBW introduces them performing basic moves in the tower fights (even in the castles too they're kinda basic), that's why, Iggy however was based a bit of NSMBU due to how he never jumps at all in that game, NSMBU shows all of them using special gimmicks adapted to the environments (except Larry who still behaved the same), but imo Lemmy should've thrown a few bombs among his balloons, otherwise he's completely harmless
To be honest, I'm surprised Odyssey didn't upload a Tips and Tricks video on Dry Bones yet. Dry Bones for Smash

6:31 Larry saying the 21 used in the “what’s 9 + 10?” Meme is something I never expected I needed in my life.
Wendy is my favorite in terms of gameplay. However, she needs to be paired with either Ludwig, Morton or lemmy to make her fights interesting. Her rings have a unique route depending on where it’s fired from which makes her unique compared to other koopalings
I made a fight where Wendy and Roy work together, the arena is filled with vines and spikes which means you can only climb, Roy digs through different platforms of spikes so you gotta be quick to find him, and there's also Wendy's rings that bounce between these platforms (and a winged lava bubble too to make it worse)
I might actually try something like this
@@joeyfarino6560 yeah, I'm basing the Koopaling teamups in Paper Jam, except that instead of leaving Morton Jr. with Lemmy and Iggy, he's with Bowser Jr. (Team Junior)

Anyways Toad is smart and decides to hit the switch before the ring got to him. 😎
Because Wendy's projectiles bounce off of ceilings and walls and the others won't, I think she can be really useful. I also find the fact that she jumps around useful. Iggy would probably the most difficult one to use making his boss fight different from Larry's.

Wendy: Same as Larry
Iggy: hops around
Morton: Tricks Mario by doing fake ground-pounds
Lemmy: Jumps around on his ball
Roy: When he pokes his head out he has a chance to choose a different spot

this is legit one of the 3 channels that keep SMM2 alive, nintendo dosent even do that anymore

Ludwig is the best koopaling, change my mind.
You didn't mention how they can be damaged by ground-pounding near them with a show, lava, poison, and the void!
The Koopalings are my favorite Nintendo characters hands down. I love these bratty kids.
Also for your first Larry idea you can also put a shellmet in a hole in a set of 9 ground blocks above the entrance to the boss fight. And also put a pipe with shell Mets coming out in case the player lost their shellmet.
Do a custom spirit battle video for smash ultimate. Just make some spirit battle ideas for popular characters that didn’t make it in smash. That would be cool
4:02 the transition syncs to the music and I love it
One of the reasons I’m really hoping for Mario maker 3 is cuz the Mario maker guys have VERY clearly shown they take feedback. Look at any list from 2015 called “10 things that should be in Mario maker” or the like and you’ll find all of those things are probably in the game by now. The koopalings are a prime example
I love your good use of comedic timing and good jokes lmao
You can do a Wendy fight by having a Wendy at the top on top of on off switches and 2 other Wendy’s on the side so Mario will have to doge 4 rings and a few magic spells then you try to hit it on off switches to damage the main Wendy on the top:)
for morton i usually use a brick floor with lava bubbles in a small space so when he ground pounds he releases one
2:21 This Toad abuse has gone on for too long! We need to start a revolution and save the Toads!
Another idea for wendy: you have to fight Wendy, but if you take too long, the room starts shrinking
Not sure if the A.I. is smart enough to use them properly, but Larry is the DJ in Mario Kart 8 Electrodrome. Using the music blocks in his boss fight could be a very cool way to make the fight more interesting.
I reccomend in the NSMBU style, place a one way for the koopalings therfore mario can't spawn camp then and they can still move out to arena. Only exception I can think of is non-NSMBU Lemmy as he wont run from side to side and same with older Wendy's as they dont do the same *I think* but for Larry, Iggy, Roy, Morton and Ludwig this should work I believe
Also can we get some love for Iggy? Best Koopaling done dirty
2:35 “All the people he’s loved” **puts picture of toadette plush**
Before I lost the game itself, I made a level based on swinging claws and inside the arena, it had Larry and also had platforms going up and down, and I implemented a swinging claw in the middle. Larry had a muncher on, though, and you had a fire flower. The idea was to time it right to get Larry stuck inside the swinging claws to then blast him with fire balls. There are moving saws horizontally going around the arena, too. If only I remembered where it was...
Wow your editing has improved a lot.

gotta admit, the Morton Koopa jr. fight looks pretty good. fight in mario bros.
I feel like iggy could be fixed by giving him an extra style that puts his chain chomp carriage
New Odyssey Central videos!! 👌
Points missed for a few after my experience
You can create parkour levels with Wendy rings using a dry bones shell
Larry with wings Jumps higher for maybe a vertical parkour stage
Iggy never jumps or leaves ground with can be used for so much mechanics like platforms coming up from the ground and you have to time your jump on Iggy before he goes back down
Personally I think Iggy is a bit looked down on in this game for how much bosses can be created
19:31 call it the Bob-omb switch
One setup that I found in a video was the use of fast, sideways moving platforms. Since Iggy moves left and right, having him stand on platforms that move left and right make him even tougher to avoid.
Wendy's setups really don't deviate much from what you suggested: smaller and narrower rooms, slippery floor, some icicles and other hazards, the works. Some people add water to make it tougher, as you'd have to swim around the rings, but that also makes both her and her rings move slower, so it's a double edged sword.
Ah, and another ability of Morton that has to be mentioned! His ground pound can break brick blocks, so one could either make a setup where they have to trick him into ground pounding himself through a platform of bricks into oblivion, SMB3 Bowser style, or make him get rid of the safe flooring you have left the more he attacks you.
Finally, wings. These add another layer to their moveset in interesting ways, some more, some less. Larry jumps higher, and I think he falls slower too; Iggy now leaps sideways quite fast, instead of just sidestepping; Wendy also jumps higher I think (yeah, she really got the short end of the stick, huh?); Roy now fakes out his peek outs, tricking you into following him when he'll actually appear somewhere else; Lemmy, uh, I actually can't remember, I think he bounces around more, making him tougher to hit; Morton also does fake outs, in the way that, when he goes for the pound, he'll actually fake some of them before doing it for real; and Ludwig, instead of flutter jumping like Yoshi, he just flat out flies around, not exactly like how he did it in Wii, in there he looked more like a powerful warlock doing it, while here, he does it more like he has a pair of wings and knows how to use them (unlike the rest of the lot, aside from Morton who's probably just either too heavy or lazy and doesn't feel like flying around all the time).
You could do a video where you explain how to make our own boss fight, instead of giving us your specific ideas because it feels cheap to use them in our levels.
My favourite boss fight is a boss fight, that I created by myself. You fight all koopalings in the same room. With a spikeball launcher clock, you can drop 2 koopalings into the arena at the same time by triggering an on-off switch with the spikeball. If you are fast enough, you can beat them before the next drop in. But if you spend too much time, the next drop in and you'll fight 4 koopalings and you'll probably loose. The timer can be made slower by adding conveyorbelts to make the fight easier. The clock has to be at the bottom and the Koopalings get dropped from the top. Larry is allready in the room at the beginning so there is barely enough space for the offscreen koopalings. Make sure you drop 2-3 fire flowers to restore health with each koopaling drop. Even Roy doesn't come out, if he is offscreen waiting to be dropped. The last koopaling, that drops in has the key. My arena is very varried with Conveyorbelts, claws and note blocks. Try it out. It's really the best bossfight I came up with by now.

im upset you didnt mention the best part of Morton's gimmick: the ground pound activates on/off switches
6:40 how come literally NOBODY I have ever seen talk about him in this game mention ONCE the fact that his magic balls go faster than every other koopalings
Mario maker is just such a good game. I love making boss fights (especially will the koopalongs as they work really well as mini bosses for worlds or just unique mechanics) I really hope they make a MM3, that’s probably my most anticipated Nintendo game
How do you stop the room scrolling for the iggy fight around 8.30? I’ve built this exactly as you’ve done yet the room scrolls.
The Roy room is awesome
fun fact: if you place solid ground, roy will always go to the ground and ignore other surfaces, IIRC conveyor belts are the surface with less priority
Pairing Roy with Blasta-Koopas is gourmet

You should make a video about utilizing snake blocks, If you haven’t already. Or utilizing ice blocks. These are very underrated blocks that deserve more attention.
Ohhhhh i needed this for my super world (i didn't play mario maker ina while)
An idea for Wendy (if it's possible) could be to have a room ceiling go down every say 10-15 seconds. So that it get's more harder to kill her as time goes on
I like that they added the koopalings
some of the koopalings are very effective when using wings
I think you should do a video all about bumpers or maybe munchers, as I see you use those a lot in your ideas :)

I was gonna do something, but that funny Peepa video made me forget.
in 2021: odyssey: "please dont dislike this video for me reusing this idea of mine..."
in 2022: me: "it doesnt matter anymore lol"
Heres an idea for wendy that i thought of:
4 wendys stack on boos, with the stack slowly getting shorter at the side facing mario, the boo stacks are on goombas that go towards mario. The 4 wendys will make a snake out of magic.
So I recently made a koopaling boss rush level (I don’t have Nintendo online so I can’t upload it) and had an idea I wanted to share
Lemmy:For this one I put a checkpoint before it because it was easily one of the hardest ones then a one way door as a gate, it had hyper speed conveyor belts as a floor pointing to the left and Lemmy as far right as possible, as for walls, the right one was bumpers and the left one was sideways springs bouncing on springs, this unintentionally made Lemmy fire out like a cannon occasionally, including his bouncy balls you really get tossed around (do you get why this one’s so hard).
Every video is a masterpiece like always, keep up the good work!
