Thanks for watching! What would you like to see next?
Stay egregiously handsome!
Guns For Hire next please! Id love you to cover that one so I can add it to my play list ❤
Greensleeves 💚
You on stage. 🇺🇸👍🏼
Stay perpetually handsome.
The wild rover would be cool (no nay never)
Would love to hear a cover of Providence by Poor Man’s Poison! Your cover of Hells coming with me was great so hearing more covers of that band would be awesome
for a second i didn't realize you were singing it in a different language and just thought I was having a brain hemorrhage
Both could be true, brother bear
Только сейчас понял что это на другом языке) думал текст изменён
same lol
I thought the same for his viva la vida cover
Same. Even after I knew it wasn't in English, I would forget and my brain would give me the mental version of the blue screen of death (if you understand Windows jokes).
The phrase "Take me to Church" in irish sounds like "Let me combust"
Which fits the song, ironically
combusts all over the place*
My jaw actually physically dropped and stayed there when I realized you'd not only translated it into Irish but just how magnificently it WORKS in Irish. This is EXACTLY what we need! This is more than a cover. This is a transformation, and it is beyond amazing. I hope you're stupendously proud of what you've done here, and I hope all those people who keep saying "Irish doesn't work for modern music" hear this and other songs like it and cease their chant.
... I also hope the man himself hears this, if he hasn't already, as I'm confident he'd approve.
edit to add: Also, if you read this Colm, any way to get one's hands on the translated lyrics? Would love to learn them.
@hozier
How does this man not have a huge record deal, earning him boat loads of money to stay equipped with all the latest sweaters is beyond me! So good!
Nah man, Colm needs to stay independent. Read up on record deals. They DO NOT favor the artist at all. In fact, quite the opposite. Support the man with some cash. I try to send him $5-$10 a month.
Yeah give up his ownership rights in perpetuity for any original work. Why wouldn't he do that?
With digital distribution record labels are a dying relic of the past.
@@Cragified Exactly this.
One Irish legend covering another! A fantastic rendition, Colm!
Hozier would fucking love this.
Imagine if hozier and colm collabe and release this
Holy shit Colm, what an absolute legend. That gritty growl in your voice when you hit the emotional spots will always be my favorite.
Also, love the new background, looks perfect for the atmosphere of your music!
i don't understand a word but still know what part of the lyrics he is singing. it is a weird feeling
Lyrics here ancroiait.wordpress.com/2014/09/23/332-take-me-to-church-as-gaeilge-%e2%99%ab/
I'm glad there's still Gaelic speakers around. Unfortunately, there's not many who still speak the language from what I heard.
First, so you know, it's called Irish. Gaelic is the term for the Scottish language it's related to. That may sound pedantic or such, but it matters. Irish is its official name in the RoI's constitution.
In Ireland itself, there are around 1.7 million people who report knowing it well enough to use and about 50-60K in the Gaeltachtai (Irish-speaking areas of Ireland) who do it as their first language. Outside of Ireland, around 22K people use it regularly. It's not dying but it's needing more of a shot in the arm or twenty. This was all as of about 2016 or so.
There are many Gaelic speakers in Scotland. Gaelic is their indigenous language. There are more Irish speakers in Ireland, our indigenous language.
Welsh is the only Celtic language not on the endangered list.
It doesn't help that the Irish Parliament years back seriously tried to ban the use of Gaelic. I still remember a video of them trying to shout down a female politician who was refusing to not speak Gaelic in protest to the attempted ban.
@@lysanamcmillan7972 "Irish (Standard Irish: Gaeilge), also known as Irish Gaelic or simply Gaelic (/ˈɡeɪlɪk/ GAY-lik),[3][4][5][6][7][8] is a Goidelic language of the Insular Celtic branch of the Celtic language group, which is a part of the Indo-European language family."
Dude isn't wrong. Actually there are Irish Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic, they both are of Gaelic/Goidelic branch and both use the word "Gaelic" for their names. Speaking of Scottish, the term "Gaelic" were fixed in combination "Scottish Gaelic" only to distinguish it from Scots as Germanic language related to English. So using the word for Irish or Manx languages too isn't a mistake, especially if it isn't science literature or smth.
You’ve proven that a great singer can convey emotion and meaning across a language barrier. Alas, I don’t speak Irish (yet), but I know the English version of this song well, and your rendition of it is raw and powerful and beautiful.
Stay handsome!
Oh, doing Hozier now?
Now I kind of want you to do Blood Upon The Snow XD
Yes!!!
I know he did the theme from Ragnarok
Ohhhh I did a verse/chorus on Chase Noseworthy's cover
@@ColmRMcGuinness Yeah, but the full song would also be great.
We need In the Woods Somewhere
YES. Really any Hozier song, but In the Woods Somewhere needs more love.
Go hálainn! Got goosepimples/bumps/flesh from this. This sounds amazing in Gaeilge!
Honestly, something about the native Irish language fascinates me, and your singing makes it all the better :)
WHY IS IT SO PERFECT?!
