When me and my sister visited him and his girlfriend, she was super cool and this was her favorite song. Little did I know that she was a total jerk. Behind my back, she was attacking my mom through social media. My dad and her always got in fights and me and my sister would be in our rooms plugging our ears. My dad eventually broke up with her and got another girlfriend. She was awesome, she had a son who was fun as well and we got along pretty fast. Fast forward a couple years and my dad proposed to her and she said yes. I just now remembered this song and it brought back so many memories.

I would ditch class to smoke "stupid little cigarettes and drink stupid wine" with my best friend at that time, we didn't have a care in the world and we would drink the day away on long walks. I'd often wonder "what would our lives look like in 5 year?". I imagined she'd be a nurse of some kind, succsefull, with her own apartment, having escaped her dysfunctional family and for myself I imagined I'd have a boyfriend, we'd be living in a condo somehwere in San Diego, and we'd be enjoying our youth. 5 years later in 2016 and my friend was in an abusive relationship. She dropped out of college, had a baby with a man who will ruin her life, and was too blinded by love to care. Also her alcoholism had gotten out of control. I was in a relationship myself with a man that I'm still with today and care about very much. We were living at his familie's house, I worked part time while attending college. We were still partying a lot, smoking stupid cigarettes and drinking stupid wine. Maybe a little *too* much, but I was in my early 20s. At that time I had imagined my 5 year goal to be living in Sacramento with my boyfriend. A bigger city with more opportunities, and I hoped that my friend would have found her way by then too. Well it's November 2020 and it's basically 5 years later again. I graduated college, I'm with my boyfriend of 7 years now and we have our own little house we rent on the "nicer" side of our hometown. I work full time in my career now. We quit drinking, because it was tearinf us apart, but I'll still enjoy a stupid little cigarette from time to time. We didn't make it to the "big city" but our goals changed along the way. We just want a peacful life now. I barely speak to my friend these days. She fell into hard drugs, lost custody of her child, became homeless and waited for her boyfriend to be released from prison. 5 years from now I hope to be married, a home owner, and at peace. Maybe ocassionally enjoying stupid little cigarettes and stupid wine, responsibly of course. And for my friend, I hope that she finds peace as well. Even if we end up not really talking anymore due to how different our life paths are, I still hope she finds love and happiness. Everytime I hear this song I get sad and get lost in memories from our past.
