    This is exactly the type of inspiration and advice I was looking for as an artist looking to carve a really cool Halloween pumpkin! Thank you for this video

    Right out of the gate, genius! I've been using stencils for years to carve pumpkins and I never once thought of using the ol' graphite trick. Genius. I must try this! ... okay. I had to add that comment immediately. But I've gone on and watched the rest of this video (as well as a few others; love multi-tabs), and you are an amazing artist. Wonderful work.
    I am no artist but more of a crafter. Thanks to the Pumpkin Masters' kits, I've been carving pumpkin designs for about 35 years. But that's all I've done until now. Last year I tried my first shaded pumpkin, using carving tools and, honestly, that was hard work! This year I'm planning to try using a rotor tool (Dremel is the most common brand name) and am trying to decide which designs to put on them. In addition, because I'm getting older, I've decided to try carving on a form carvable pumpkin. I'm thinking of the future when I may not have the gumption to carve pumpkins anymore but want them nevertheless. LOL! I do plan to follow you and see what you come up with. It's just enjoyable to watch an artist at work.
    Well done!

      Yeah it can be hard work with the wood chisels I use, I literally used to carve until my fingers would bleed, I now have some fairly big and hard calloused finger tips. I use a manicure nail drill for my foam pumpkins, I found the Dremel a bit to powerful and loud, but if you are using a Dremel then definitely get a flex shaft (if you haven't already) as without that it's a bit heavy and the vibration would leave me with a numb hand after a while

    Completely agree with you. It seems like there are 3 different types with varying levels of difficulty in each.

    You’re so talented! I would be so pleased if I could carve my first pumpkin and it turned out as nice as yours. As far as your etched pumpkins, they are beautiful pieces of art worthy of a museum. The Medusa you created is mind blowing. Love, love, love! your video. I’ll be looking for more in hopes of learning from you. Thank you for your kindness in teaching us want to be pumpkin artists. I just want to thrill my grandkid’s with a cool looking pumpkin.❤❤❤

    Can you carve and sculpt on a craft pumpkin? Because It’s expensive to make a pumpkin just wondering

    • @PumpkinFreak
      @PumpkinFreak  Год назад

      Yeah you can shade a store craft pumpkin, but the ones you get from stores are too thin to sculpt.

    how can I learn to carve at this level? is it possible to learn just by doing it and finding out?

    • @PumpkinFreak
      @PumpkinFreak  Год назад +1

      Yes it's absolutely possible to learn, like anything it just take practice. It takes a lot of patience as it can take a really long time to carve a pumpkin this way.

    • @wjsjswjsjs4264
      @wjsjswjsjs4264 Год назад

      @PumpkinFreak As far as I'm aware that would be the best way to learn as there's not much info about it online unless if you could direct me towards some resources. I'm already good enough to do basic shading and spend hours on stoney patterns. And if I knew what I was doing I could make something like you do in the same amount of time as some of those take.

    You are both Olympic level pumpkin carvers. For the rest of us, this is way too hard. Although, it's amazing to watch you just crank out this impressive, incredibly detailed, realistic dragon, for the rest of us it's not a reachable goal unless we have a natural talent for drawing. This is a great instructional video for artists not the regular person.

      I think anyone can do this (or anything for that matter) if you put your mind to it and practice... The only thing stopping you is your mindset

      I've had the same lino cutter and set of wood carving chisels for 6 years, they are very sturdy, you should try using those, both are readily available on Amazon and very cheap!
