I was in the 48th Highlanders around 1966-1967. I spent time on Niagara on the Lake. We took a boat ride from HMS Star to Oshawa. I have very fond memories as a teen.
Nice to see the A&S of Canada still maintaining the regimental distinctions, now that the regiment in the U.K. has been virtually amalgamated out of existence like so many (mainly Scottish) regiments.
It’s a shame to see what’s happened back hame but fortunately the Scottish and Highland regiments in Canada still stand proud in honour of our shared heritage.
@@stephenconnacher8813 I did my BMQ with a highlander unit which the entire staff were Balmorals, half of us recruits were POGS. The staff were proud of their Balmorals and in a Highlander unit, they made sure all us recruits, POGS or not that we know and are proud of the Scottish Highlander heritage in the CAF. For myself, I wish I can wear a Balmoral instead of a beret for my head dress.
Awesome i played with you guys in 86' edinburgh tattoo i was piper 1st black watch and in a couple of months i will after 20 years do my pilgrimage to Ft. Ticondroga i now live in Fairbanks Alaska. Back then i remember a spectaled dark haired corporal under the name McCrimmian as a Corporal but i think in truth 'acting Pipe SGT. he played at solo castle upon a number of nights. i remember him for it was the first character that i can recall with a "tuner gadget"!
Thank you for this video Andrew Spearin. My father (Rob Roy Campbell) and his brothers David, George, Gordon and Don as well as my cousin John Campbell all of Hamilton, were members of this regiment in Hamilton. My dad and his brothers in the early years (1930s?), John more recently until his death. My Dad was very proud of his regiment and spoke often of his love of it and the men he served with. Today, in Victoria, BC, in the aftermath of the tragedy in Ottawa 2 days ago, and watching and listening to 'The Campbells are Coming' I'm remembering my Dad, and of course thinking about Cpl Nathan Cirillo and his loved ones. May he RIP.
Thank you for the kind comment MaryLou and to your family's service. I'm a piper in the Argyll P&D, former soldier and cadet with the regiment and it's quite shocking to have the Argylls unwillingly thrust into the spotlight. We will remember them.
Thanks Andrew. My condolences to you and your fellow Argyll P&D for your loss. The nation's hearts and thoughts are with all of you on the eve of the remembrance for Cpl Cirillo.
I was in RCAC a few years back and i missed the sounds of the bagpipes and parades. My old core has disbanded now but i wanna go back in time and do it all over
I was a cadet once apon a time and I remember that our core did much better then the rest of them, hell I was laughing to myself at a few individuals who were completely out of step from the rest of their cores!
hamiltonian saying thanks for your services ,i hear them practice often as i live by the barracks my most favourite mornings are the ones waking up to them pipes playing
Damn right buddy - I was an Argyll cadet 1970 to 1974 then a reservist until I transferred to The Royal Canadian Regiment in 1975. Proud to have been an Argyll !
A guy by the name of Willie Foote was in my troop in 3 Signal Regiment Episkopi Garrison in 1959 , him and i both are Scots , love the music and history of Canada . Duncan Pitkeathly .
Little did the Argyle's know the shit-storm that would be perpetrated against them 2 years later. Such an accomplished Regiment and they have done so much for Nathan's son, Marcus. RIP Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and W.O. Patrice Vincent. "At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we will remember them. Lest We Forget "
Jesus, that’s Cadet Highlander drill? I was given the impression that Army Cadets had the best drill out of all the elements, but now my image is shattered seeing this specific corps march. I hope that they watched this video, and learned to fix their marching.
Naw, overall Air Cadets generally have better drill but it varies from different corps/squadrons. But keep in mind that cadets are just kids and a lot of them aren't very bright...
Don't doubt you enthusiasm and loyalty, but come on lad s it's your day...don't look so passed off, they would have done it for you, if the boot was on other FOOT,..l love to get yous lot on my parade ground for 6 weeks , you'll all be shoulders back heads up , and all in time Ex Drill RMS Grenadiers FOOT Guards English Mik
Drill was super sloppy the smiling needs to be smoked out of them for starters secondly many cadets were out of step seems like more D&C is needed and in case anyone thinks I’m unqualified to make these assertions I’m a U.S Army Infantrymen who has had many years of D&C training
RIP Cpl Carcillo. You have done us proud! What a beautiful regiment!
Well done Canada. You ARE the jewel of the Commonwealth.

you are the last argylls battalion now that the 1bn argylls is now disbanded.
keep up the good work
Brian Young The Calgary Highlanders is also an Argyll-affiliated regiment in Canada which still exists. They wear pretty much the same kit.

Good for the Canadians, there so proud of there Scottish Heritage.
I believe Canada currently has more Scottish and Highland Regiments than the UK Armed Forces.
I know they did in the First World War and Maybe the Second, but I'm not sure now.

OH, MY FRIENDS WE ARE WHO WE ARE !!!
I still see some Gagetown wings! Is there a new Canadian Airborne School or are they old-timers?
I got mine in '85, from away.
Cherry jumper wings can be had. The 3 RCR (Petawawa) s the only “para“ unit in the Reg Force now.
Thanks for the response! 8-)
I like bagpipes, I just can't march to them.
Neither can I! I can't march period. Hats off to those who can play an instrument and march at the same time!
watching the Cadets march is so hilarious xD
