During Iraqi Freedom there was an F-16 pilot who evaded six SAMs one after another with nothing but maneuvering. Now that's fucking badass and intense. You can even find the footage on youtube.

That was Desert Storm. Package Q was the name of the strike on Baghdad. The original plan called for 72 F-16s of several different blocks and variants. 4 of them returned home before engaging tho due to issues with coordination
It was an anti-air system from the 1950's with close to untrained operators against an advanced aircraft built decades later with some of the most expensive pilots in the world operating them but sure pat yourself on the back. Does it feel good to pay close to half your income in tax and mandatory expenses to take out dictators we put in power in the first place?

Honestly, modern day fights would just be missiles flying back and forth from over the horizon. The chances of a "dogfight" are pretty low. BUT DAMN it would be sick to see an F-22 and a Su-57 duel it out in epic fashion.

@@SmittyWJManJensen That was back in WW1 when pilots weren't given parachutes (this statistic in particular was for British pilots during April 1917 which was known as "Bloody April", I'd imagine the life expectancy has skyrocketed since then due to factors such as more reliable/advanced aircraft, having parachutes/ejection seats, search-and-rescue operations being far more extensive/reliable, fewer jet fighters in service at one time so smaller-scale engagements, etc.
the real stinger is that it's far more selective/competitive to be a pilot, let alone a fighter pilot, in your nation's military due to there being fewer slots than in the WW1/WW2 era + jet fighters requiring a much higher level of training to operate (compare playing DCS vs a WW2 flight sim to fully understand that last point)

@@asteroidrules realistically its perfectly fast enough for jet combat. tank combat is something that's fast but has slow points. naval warfare has to be slow but heavy especially when battleships get involved because you know, battle ships are more or less floating heavy metal.
@@scooterdescooter4018Air combat always goes well with good 80’s rock and guitar solos. Things like Sabaton work well for a good naval soundtrack. I feel like tanks need something heavy and slow, with a beat evoking a hammer striking metal.

Funnily enough in the Battletech Universe, due to mech pilots not wishing to break or damage their radio equipment, practically all of them just leave them on open channels even to the enemy.
As such, one mercenary unit known as the Northwind Highlanders came up with a very fun way of creating radio channel interference. They just play bagpipes on the loud across the radios on pretty much all channels.
As such radio Comms are jammed but the Highlanders get to go into battle enjoying some good old pipes and drums.

If you’re referring to Major Emmet Tulia evading 6 surface-to-air missiles without dropping any countermeasures, it’s because his countermeasures dispense system broke. It’s not because he forgot.
@@Monarch683 i read one time that the countermeasures were workin but in the moment he just start doing maneuvers and didnt use it because the gs or somethin like that but maybe you are right
