    Take a hack saw or Dremel and cut a slit into a pair of standard pliers on the tip about 1/8" long and it works perfect to remove the spool retaining pin.

      In that event, it's a great time to upgrade your bearings and remove spool play :)

    For any of the better quality Lew's models made at the Korean plant, starting with the model "Tournament MB" and up, I challenge everyone to simply take the reel apart & thoroughly clean out all the factory lube & oil, that involves dropping the factory ball bearings in mineral spirits to soak for a couple hours. Remove the bearings & thoroughly dry them using compressed air, and then just re-oil & re-lube everything with the pricier hi-performance oil & lube that you guys sell & recommend for your bearing upgrades. I find that the factory-stock ball bearings in all the better models of Lew's bait casters are pretty darn good, and only requires the finer oil. This alone, WILL improve the free-spool spin. But KNOW THIS: The pricier hi-performance oils & lubes EVAPORATE much faster than factory lubes & oils, which is why Lew's & many other reel companies use the thicker factory oils & lubes, because it LASTS LONGER, as most anglers usually don't service their reels often enough. If the hi-performance oils & lubes are used, ya better be prepared to service your reels much more often. Of course, a lot of guys run their ball bearings completely free of any oil, for the ultimate in free-spool spin. I really don't know how that may or may not affect the factory stainless steel ball bearings, so for fresh water bass fishing, I personally choose to apply ONLY a single drop of factory-oil per bearing only once or twice a year, and lube the gear only once every 12 to 18 months.........and my Lew's reels are still performing like new. ( I own multiples of each model: "Pro-G"......"Super Duty"......and "BB1 PRO". GREAT REELS.

      Howabouthetruth I 100% agree, if you don't want to pay the $15 to put some good bearings in there, that's understandable. There amazing just to leave the original bearings on the reel.but I recommend too, super cheap and amazing quality

      They mainly have to put all that in at the factory because it helps protect the reel during shipping and storage. Even a brand new reel you buy might be sitting in stock storage at Lews and the store for very long periods before someone purchases it and starts using it.

    Wish daiwa was that easy. Have a daiwa fuego that started making noise after i tried holding the spool and reeling when removing a nest. Im thinking i ruined the pinion bearing or bent the spool rod... what would your guess be?

    • @bocabearings
      @bocabearings  5 лет назад

      Could be that, could be something got loosened and knocked out of place. I would maybe open it up and check the bearing and then tighten everything back down. Quick simple check before having to do something else. Hope that helps!

      If they are sealed bearings you can't oil them. Well you could but it wouldn't
      do anything

    I don’t think the clip is needed on the tension knob side to keep the bearing in. The spring will keep tension on the bearing as well as the cap. I took mine out and works even better
