- A motorcycle and camping journey from western to eastern USA. My DR650 and a KTM890 enter Idaho and the Backcountry Discovery Route. I ride and give a brief overview of the KTM890. Fire re-routes, finding lost wallet, water and camp site. The Lolo Motorway (Nez Perce Indian Trail) in spectacular rugged mountain beauty.
Looked like a great adventure. Hoping to do the IDBDR summer of 24.
It's a great one. Have been on most all but far north and south several times.
Nice relaxing episode. Perfect way to end the day... thanks
Glad you enjoyed it.
Another good one. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. Good to have comments.
Always enjoy watching your videos JR!
I appreciate that!
"So, I guess if it boiled right down to it, I just want both of them." ...
... some things never change. 👍👍 Hope to see ya out there.
I hope so too!
Great video JR. Especially enjoyed your selection of music. Fit the riding perfect. Not so sure about "On the road again" but put a big smile on my face!! 👍
Hah! I’m no Willy Nelson, for sure. Actually, selecting music is very tricky but rewarding too.
Camped at Dworshak on the 10th of August! Looks like we just missed one another! We saw those fellows from Mexico at the Ryan Hotel in Wallace! We had breakfast at the elk snout as well! Should be in our next video or two! Have a great story I'll share about Dworshak on the next one hopefully! Thanks for bringing us along! Awesome we came through there a day apart! What a place!
Awesome. I look forward to it.
I always look forward to your new adventures in the DR650. Enjoy 🏍️🍻
Thanks! Made my day.
Awesome scenery, and a song. Good stuff.
Thank you very much. Love your name!
The KTM is based out of Mattighofen, Austria. BMW is based in Munich, Bavaria. Love the videos.
Looks like I need to brush up on the regional distinctions! Thank you for sharing and watching.
Good to see you again Mr. JR Dan JR... that night after Wallace? I have property on the river right within a few miles of there... would have been happy to let you guys camp there... we have power there also. Hey, I have the same bike Blake does... mine is a 2010 FJR1300 silver
Good to hear from you again!
Good stuff! I'm looking to do a ride from western WA to the southeast US in the spring and considering the Idaho BDR as part of my route. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds great!
Another great video - thanks Joe! Liked how you broke the motorbike preference down - depends on a number of factors but ultimately you want them both!
Thanks. I think I’m tending towards lighter bikes for off-road. Have a WR250R I will put to use this year.
@@jrdepew - interesting. Here’s my recent progression: Honda CRF250 (350lb); to a Yamaha Tenere 700 (450lb), which I dumped in the stream; to a Honda CRF450RL (270lbs - pure muscle - now with 11k miles). The 450 is the clear favorite. I also recently bought a ‘92 BMW R100 GS (450lbs), which I hope to ride on a BDR this summer. My wife prefers that I have a collection of motorcycles over a collection of girlfriends! Thanks again for the great content!!
That's funny! 450 is really light!
You must be tired of hearing it but once again, great video - I enjoy them all. I also ride a DR650 after many years on a DRZ. Love 'em both for different reasons. The close ratio trans on the DRZ confines it to rougher duty without a lot of pavement. I love the DR for its longer legs and reasonable off-road capability. BTW, I was wondering if you have a background in singing/composing lyrics. Possible second career?🙂
Not tired at all! Greatly appreciate every view and comment. I'll try to keep my budding vocal talent in check!
Another excellent video 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
great vid!
Thanks 🙂
I'm really enjoying the series Joe. I know a lot of work goes into that so know that it's appreciated. I am planning a solo ride out of Washington State eastbound this summer. Route TBD, so this was very interesting. It's obvious that you are not selling anything through your videos which is respectable. But may I ask what your upper body armor is? Ride safe my friend- AL
It is a labor of love for sure. Comments like yours are a real booster. Armor is Forcefield X-V Air Pro mesh shirt. Good for hot weather protection under a jersey or shell jacket.
Ride on
Indeed!
Nescafe or Folgers?🤔
DR for the win!
Yep!
Great series. Were you involved in the triple seven program ? I worked on the 777 for 24 years before retiring in 2020.
I was a 777 pilot for 10 years. Great airplane.
Very cool. I’ve never flown in one.
KTM is a warning, it means Keep The Money… rather a DR any day
The DrR has been a faithful servant for me that’s for sure.
You might look at a drz for a bit of a downsize. It's almost as simple as the dr. probably not as good on higher speed highways, though a bit better on the dirt and 40 pounds or so less.
That’s a viable option for sure. Simple and cheap. I have a clapped out WR250R I plan to hit trails with 2024.
You'll miss that sweet DR motor for just 35 lbs.
