In Persian there is a proverb that states "Sekandar zamin-o zaman ra gereft be zur, ba yek moshte khali raft be gur", which roughly translates as Alexander conquered all the lands and the time forcefully but went to the grave empty handed. This proverb is usually used when one wants to state the importance of humility and the inevitability of death no matter how rich or great u become.

The man was offered mounted axe-wielding female warriors by a satrap in present-day Azerbaijan and even though they were fierce and skilled he didn’t want to risk losing them or having them get captured so kept them as rear guard and married them off to elite Companion cavalry to create the next generation of elite horse-mounted warriors. Despite burning too bright and too briefly, his long term, multigenerational thinking and respect for his former enemies/cultural multiplicity is truly inspiring.

Dhul-Qarnayn, translated as "the possessor of the two horns," whilst Alexander the Great has no symbolic possession of a two horns otherwise it will be written in histories or engraved in his statue, Furthermore Dhul-Qarnayn was very respected never feared nor disliked by his people including his army for he was righteous rewarding those who does good and just punishing those who does evil but Alexander was betrayed by some of his generals and his army mutinied once thus gave a great speech recorded in history although what he said was unknown it deeply affected his army leading to an emotional apology to alexander. Also the very important difference is that Dhul-Qarnayn was worshiping only one God while Alexander was worshiping Idols and this is very important for he is mentioned in the Quran as a Muslim a person who submitted his will to only one God. Thus, Dhul-Qarnayn Can not be Alexander the Great both are great conquerors but not the same people so this is a very weak theory. Although, some scientists believes that he might be King Cyrus who is also mentioned in the Jewish scripturas as he is the one conquered Babylon and freed the Israelites and they praised this man who his name is Cyrus He used to worship only one God; Believe in only one God and was a righteous man. King Cyrus was also a great conqueror rather he conquered it before Alexander the Great and the world was open to him. Finally, Dhul-Qarnayn might have been King Cyrus or someone else entirely.
Apologies for my bad English and this is only to correct the misconception that Alexander the Great is Dhul-Qarnayn for he isn't. both are great conquerors but not the same person.

Historical facts = Strabo (63 BC) tells us that Illyrians, Thracians, Bottians and Thesprotes shared the Macedonian territory (Tribes of Pelasgian origin 🇦🇱 ).
      Source: (Strabo, VII, Frg .n°.11)
The Macedonians have just propagated the Hellenic culture and have adopted it little by little ...
The ancient authors called the Macedonians Barbaros/non-Greeks...
      For example the great Thucydides...
Example : Thucydides (II, 80- IV, 126) who qualified of Barbaros (not Greek) the MACEDONIANS, Thesprotes, Molosses, Châones Atintanes, Paravaiens, Orestiens etc!
Moreover it is not the only one, far from there ....

    • @Universal..
      @Universal.. 3 года назад +1

      Historical facts =
Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great.
But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ?
I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek.
( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... )
According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion.
According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses.
All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian.
For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ?
Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came.
To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part.
In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus.
Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it.
As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes.
Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. Along with the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also ruled without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues.
( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR )
All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek!
      ( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 )
The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus.
Among them are of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great !
And Thucydides is not the only source which defines the Epirotes as non-Greeks.
      There are many others!
According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the Real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong links with the population of southern Italy!
More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen author of the cycle "Corpus of Antiquity inscriptions" which says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him " .
Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle".
The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ...
      "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .
(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome).
Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us:
      - "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. "
      ( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare )
That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion.
Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing.
The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister .
The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and sister of another well known Illyrian prince "Alexander the Molossus".
I believe that all or part of the strong character of Alexander comes exactly from his mother, from the house that also gave birth to Pyrrhus.
The powerful role of women in Illyrian society has been documented by many authors, including those who today identify themselves as Greeks, such as Athenaeus and Theompope.
Olympias' influence on her son Alexander was so great.
She believed that her son had divine blood and that he was born to rule the greatest kingdom of all time.
But the mother's family was not the only Illyrian family to which Alexander was affiliated, his link with the Illyrians was stronger than that!

      Historical facts
      =
The family of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
This last, according to the data, had a Macedonian father, but not his mother.
She was called Eurydice and came from the tribe of "Lyncestides".
Who was the grandmother on the side of the father of Alexander the Great?
The mother of Philip is the daughter of the daughter
Of Arrhabaeus, daughter of king Sirras, says Strabo.
Plutarch is very detailed on this subject.
He insists that although Eurydice is Illyrian (🇦🇱) and barbarian in every sense of the word, she was educated to help children.
He says very clearly that she is Illyrian, and barbaric in every way.
      (Plutarch, De liberis educandis. p.69)
Lyncestides from where came the mother of Philip II, were a tribe which extended not far from the lake of Ohrid, somewhere in the area of Manastir where the ruins of one of their most important cities are today.
(Illyrian, no doubt. It is the last province that has a border with Macedonia)
As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes .
And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc...
Here what Demosthenes says to us about Philip II of Macedonia (father of Alexander the Great):
      - "And yet, with regard to Philip and his conduct, they
don't feel that way, although he's not Greek and he's not related to the Greeks at all..."
      (The third Filipino)
      By Demosthenes (384-322 BC)

As a Muslim I respectfully disagree. Dhul Qarnayn literally means "two horns", Islamic Scholars think him of Cyrus the Great as he indeed did possess the two-horned ram, gave favorable laws to the Jews at the time and was a follower of Zarathushtra's teaching; a monotheistic religion at the time.
Historicity gives much more support to Cyrus the Great in these regards.

That could also be the case. Main point is that Cyrus the Great actually liberated the Jews from Babylon and allowed them to settle in Jerusalem again after such a long time. He did a lot for the monotheistic religions at the time and was directly mentioned in the Torah favorably.
I do agree Alexander the Great has been romanticised extensively in most cultures, though the title of "Two Horns" ( Dhul Qarnayn) would probably be a weak argument from a historicitical point of view as compared to Cyrus the Great.

What was left of avesta was actually copies in other cities that was ordered by vologases of parthia to be collected and the resulting version ended up being 348 seasons.

There is no mention of Alexander in Quran because he is only of significant to the western culture it is Cyrus The Great in Quran and it is Cyrus The Great who is of significance to all cultures all civilizations all religions in Quran Cyrus The Great is mentioned as zul qarnain meaning ( The one with two horns) so if you see Cyrus the great's depiction on the stones he has two horns on his head and he is in Hebrew bible depicted as God chosen king of the world and he freed Jews and created the first human rights and the title ''' The Great ''''' was originally given to Cyrus and he is the first to be called ''The Great '' in Human history and then Alexander took the title just because to fill the mighty shoes of Cyrus The Great . and alexander was a big fan of Cyrus The Great that's why he took Cyrus's title The Great and so Alexander is not in quran it is Cyrus The Great and he is in bible he is the God chosen king in All three major religions

      "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .

But from the story we can have some clues for the place like he reached a place that when he was standing there while the sun was setting it appeared to him that the sun is setting in a spring of murky water, so some said that he might was at the cacusus mountains and this water might be the black sea

And it is very close to be Cyrus the great ( the first Achaemenid king )
First because Alexander was a pagan
Second because he was know that he killed lots of civilians in his invasion
    Thirdly and most importantly:
the infidels of Mecca were trying to disprove the prophecy of prophet Muhammad PBUH ,
And they went to the some Jews to know how they could do it
The Jews told them to ask Muhammad ( PBUH ) 3 questions

Just last year I read an Islamic book on the Stories of the Prophets (compiled by Hajjah Amina Adil) which had an entire chapter on Alexander the Great. It's content was quite similar to the video including the story of the dragon, and all sorts of strange encounters like the Amazonian women ruled by their queen. Alexander missed the fountain of youth but Khidr and the Prophet Elias found it and they drank of it. As for his religion it was said that he followed the religion of Abraham and was advised throughout his life by his master Aristotle. The book also mentioned that Oğuz Han is Alexander(or Dhul Qarnayn of the Quran). And Gog and Magog according to the book are a tribe descendants of the son of Noah - Japeth.

One of the most prominent polish legends, originating from Middle Ages, is the legend of a shoemaker from Kraków, which used to be tormented by a dragon living in a cave under Wawel hill, which later became the royal seat of polish kings. Anyway, anyone who'd be able to defeat the dragon would get the princess and kingdom. The brave shoemaker filled the dummy of a sheep with sulphur, which made dragon so thirsty, he'd drink the water from river Vistula untill he just "popped". I wonder if this one, and the Alexander dragon story might be connected somehow!

They rejected religion yes eg: stalin but he didn't say "we must kill because there is no god" he just attempted to take religion out of the picture to further his dictatorship. Where as religions far and wide call for violence or intolerance within their mandates. I'm not saying humans would be better without religion, but at least the fallacy or purpose wouldn't be so clouded in mythos. It would hopefully be glaringly kept in reality. Also more of this yaajoujmajooj ( gog magog ). This is a belief in islam that at the end of time those creatures that we call Yaajoujmajooj will actually plague the earth and it’s said that they will come in large numbers devouring all on their way as they walk through the sea their first line will walk and their second line will find it dry as a desert. And what dul kharnain has done is prevent them from devouring the land at that time. But in our islamic belief we know that there will be a day for them to successfully break through at the end of time.
