Zodiac is a loser. He tried so hard to be the most infamous serial killer in history but he was a distant second to Jack The Ripper. That must have done a number on that fragile ego.
Amazing outcome with his arrests. Unfortunately the person that really deserves credit to finding this killer had her spotlight taken away and she is now dead from unfortunate tragic circumstance. RIP all😢
I think a lot of people gave her credit where credit wasn't due. She didn't solve anything. She brought attention to the case, but it would've been solved without her book.
Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Chanel matter, they're not using touch DNA for these types of identification I don't think. I was under the impression these were cases that have full on DNA samples (such as $emen, blood, saliva, etc.) and fairly significant amounts of it. That amount and type of DNA is NOT getting transferred because you "sat on the same bench". I'm not saying this couldn't lead to false arrests but I don't think the likelihood is as high as they're making it out to be.
You’re right in your impression. It was $emen at multiple crime scenes. Multiple samples with multiple jurisdictions, originally. So the likelihood of contamination is near zero. Throw in his timeline and location not excluding him from the crimes and the whole “Bonnie” thing and the shape and size of his pee pee, you got a “yeah it’s him.”
@@johnofmalta I'm not super familiar with the case so IDK what the "Bonnie" thing is, I'll have to look into that, but from what I did know I thought it seemed a bit far fetched to insinuate this man was framed because he "rode the same bus as the killer". Thanks for confirming!
@@johnofmalta I looked further into it and yea, definitely seems he is guilty but I couldn't find anything about anyone named Bonnie or anything much about the things you mentioned besides just there being a significant amount of DNA and that he confessed. I am amazed with the use and technology of DNA to bring to closure cold cases. It is rather interesting that law enforcement is not equally enthusiastic and in support of using DNA with the history of Americas wrongful prosecutions, incarceration, and death row executions.
When I was about 15 and living in Irvine he knocked on the door in the middle of the night. I heard him talking through his grit teeth - “open the door!”. Of course I didn’t. I've always wanted to do an Ancestry kit bc I don't know much about my Great Grandparents for the most part but I am afraid for my DNA to be on a website bc of hackers or if my information would be used inappropriately! Unfortunately we have to worry about these things in 2024.
That guy is taking all the credit for capturing this killer. Were it not for crime writer, Michelle McNamara, keeping a spotlight on the case, it would not have been solved. Sadly she died without being suitably recognised.
@ it spoke about the DNA and that is what was un the title. The fact that they gave a brief background on how it got to that point & questions its future use doesn’t make this click bait. the 'original' story has been covered thoroughly - what they have done is investigate the IMPLICATIONS of this technology and how it has continued to evolve SINCE GSK. . If all you want is GSK, then you can find that elsewhere.
Narrator: "Political Dissidents"? Me: You mean people YOU disagree with? Just because they don't BOW to your political whims doesn't mean they are wrong about it. Using DNA definitely needs guardrails.
My concern is not the use of these methods, but the misuse. As with abortion, once it is tied up with politics and political laws, there is an increasing chance of a miscarriage of justice. In some US states (usually governed by Republican administrations), this is already a real problem.
With all due respect to scientists, genealogists and biologists: I’m starting to have doubts about the science of DNA. The scientific community has to explain DNA to people of my generation. We didn’t learn about DNA in my time and I’m less than 60 years old. I watched many nature documentaries and apparently humans share 98% of DNA with chimpanzees. I’ve watched many chimpanzee documentaries, I’ve yet to see a chimpanzee that even remotely resembles me. Are they saying that there are different types of DNA under the DNA umbrella? We deserve to be better educated by the scientific community.

Just think all the black people who will be freed and compensated for crimes they did not commit. Will cripple USA economy.

I like how he acted all demented when he was arrested (and in court), right after returning from the supermarket and with a meal on the stove.
