No UL or CSA or 3rd party regulatory certification and they cost how much?!? Radiated RFI on an open outlet with no load is of little surprise. The test should have been done to a connected amplifier via the speaker terminals or at least the transformer secondary. I've done such tests and never measured appreciable improvements with any power conditioners. Anyways, they look pretty and you have a glamorous connection point for all your equipment ;)
I have to agree with some of these comments. What spare change si describing (a very quiet background) IS real, but Before you buy an expensive conditioner, get a dedicated home run circuit form the box ! And a decent receptacle (you dont need to spend $100 on an exotic rhodium type thing, but a good hospital grade is perhaps the best money you will ever spend. ANd start with a good Non UPS conditioner (APC H15 for ~$300) that has 1) excellent guaranteed surge protection 2) excellent voltage correction 3) Sequenced turn-on and off ensures that connected equipment is powered-up/down in the proper order and with the right amount of delay between the stages. It allows you to program a delay into the sequence between 0 and 12 seconds. This feature helps to eliminate any "popping" sounds coming from speakers when turning on the system. This delay feature also eliminates transients that can affect connected components, e.g. digital projectors. And lets be honest-anything sold under an exotic $$$ cable company’s name is bound to have the same insane price margins, so caveat emptor re price performance for ANY system. BOTTOM LINE- get a home run 20 amp circuit run($200-300) with a quality hospital grade receptacle ($20) to an APC H15 ($300). And look if you are really worried about noise, why are you even fooling around with most class AB amps ? Get a high quality class D-their noise and distortion by design are an order of magnitude (soemtines SEVERAL orders fo magnitude) quieter !
Audioquest makes one of the best power conditioners, I have 1200 but would love to have 5000 , however I only power my sources from it like AV Reciver or DAC , there was a funny comment from someone saying it gives better blacks from projector / tv ... lol but for audio you clearly can tell difference, keep it up man don’t listen to all haters commenting below
The biggest thing with this type of power conditioner is the power reserves that it has. I have a Furman power conditioner elite15 pf I, and for subwoofers its absolutely mandatory. You can't get this type of power from a passive wall socket, its impossible. I tried playing Midway from just the wall socket, and I couldn't do it, I'd completely lost all bass energy, and punch. You may be able to get it to measure fine with a simple frequency sweep, but when it comes to massive dynamic bursts of bass energy, a wall outlet cannot do what the system calls for. 15 amp, 20 amp, isolated line, it doesn't matter, it cannot pull this type of dynamic power needs. If you're serious about power then a power conditioner like this is mandatory. Even if you're not sold by noise pollution, you will be sold by better bass and more dynamics. AudioQuest Niagara is next for me, I think I'll buy 2 Niagra 1200's.
Can you please quantify what you say are "dynamic power needs"? Honestly curious because muy guess would be that a 40A breaker on a 240V service could supply huge multi hundred amp millisecond spikes when needed.
In my system the Niagara 3000 made a big and not subtle difference. The audio guy came to the house to mount some acoustic panels and brought along a Niagara 3000. I had the integrated amp plugged directly into a dedicated 20 amp circuit and didn't expect much from the AQ unit. I was very surprised at the difference in the openness of the sound and in the bass. I speculate that the improved bass performance effect comes from the ability of the AQ unit briefly to dump more current into the line when the amp demands it. The whole system also seems quieter, as described in the video. The system is composed of equipment from McIntosh, Revel, Rega, and Clearaudio.
I got impatient and purchased a Niagara 3000 instead of holding out for a Niagara 5000. At first I thought I did not hear a difference. After playing through several songs, I can say there is a definite difference. There are subtle sounds that I don't hear when plugged into the wall without the conditioner. Even little things like sounds of fingers moving across guitar strings became more apparent. I will be adding additional amplifiers to my system eventually, and will add a second Niagara 3000 to my setup when I do.
The lead engineer from Furman, who designed the current generation Pro, Elite, and Reference Series... left and went to work for AQ (Garth Powell). Seeing that he oversaw not only all Furman products, but also all Panamax products (they are a subsidiary of Furman), I HIGHLY doubt that the lack of an expensive certification should be a cause for concern. I have a Furman Elite 15PFi and the components inside are absolutely cheap compared to the stuff found even in the 3000. I see sour grapes from other Audio reviewers that don't seem to have the same connections. My Furman with power factor correction (And, Yes, I understand exactly what that means at a technical level) did help slightly improve the blackness of background, image width, and image depth from my Dual Benchmark AHB2 amplifiers (used as bridged monoblocks) and LA-4 preamp over my previous conditioner, a Panamax 5100.
@@mikepawntee2425 You're going to enjoy my reply. I'm a retired professional Audio engineer with FOH and Monitor World experience at a major theme park in the USA, major convention center, a few mega churches, a radio station, etc. I've seen Furman's take direct lightning hits that saved entire JBL Vertec large format line arrays and their Crown amp stacks (likely the Yamaha or Midas boards and outboard equipment at FOH/MW as well, depending on how much current decided to try to find earth ground through the snake). We're talking over a million in hung boxes alone for a major array hang with 22 outboard Vertec subs. Saved by a few lowly Furman PL 20 Pro's. For those benefits ALONE, it would seem to be a wise investment. So, you can sit down now. Are you normally this rude to absolute strangers? What makes you think you can condescend in this way? What's worse, I'm a fully credentialed AES member. You need to chill out.
@@mikepawntee2425 I don't need measurements to make plain observations of obvious differences in background noise. How many users who have reported the exact same effect have to be idiots for you to support your assertion? It's a big number. Which makes your claims even more dubious. NOTE: Furman and AQ use series Mode protection without MOVs for most of their filtering. It is non sacrificial. But keep making assumptions.
How can anyone keep up? Lol ok...besides the noise floor, why after getting the Furman did you switch to the Audioquest? Did it REALLY sound that much better? And if you had to do only one, which.3000 or 5000 and why? You're making my head swim, Shane!
hello, power conditioner do work for me, a hum could be ear in all my speakers when i plug my emotiva amp with the furman the hum is instantly gone!, the niagara look awesome man to pricey for me but yes it does work!
IT'S ABOUT PERSONAL GROWTH. As you are financially able to afford more expensive things, your taste changes. It does NOT matter if AudioQuest or any other high cable manufacturer claims are true or not. Its that sense of accomplishment when you realize that you can afford to buy a high-end well-made cable, processor, power conditioner, speakers, etc. I can bet most of the people screaming 'SNAKE OIL' this and 'SNAKE OIL' that, will be the ones buying cable risers, ultra-high-end turntables, processors, etc if their financial situation allowed them to.
Whether or not you can afford it means nothing here. We are discussing whether or not these products can improve sound quality. If they don’t do what they claim, then they become ‘snake oil’. They’re being marketed as sound improvement devices, not audio equipment jewelry. I have some expensive braided Kimber cables in my setup right now. They are there strictly for aesthetics purposes only and sound exactly the same as my generic 12 gauge Monoprice. The fact that I own these does not let Kimber off the hook for marketing BS.
I bought the Niagara 3000 with high power Thunder cable to replace my Nordost QB8 power strip. It's only been 2 days that i'm using them. Overall I am dissapointed so far, mostly by the bass performance, which seams to be more blur and lacking impact. I don't know if the Niagara 3000 or the thunder are causing this, or the fact that the Nordost QB8 and Frey2 cable are not there anymore, I do know that those Nordost make a great imptovement in sound quality when they are there.
If i was going to spend as much as you are with the Niagra, i'd want to also try the IsoTek Evo3 Aquarius before making a final decision on which to keep.
I have very expensive components, well over $40k worth. Never had a power conditioner make a significant improvement in my system’s sound. Tried: Panamax, PS Audio, Monster, Furman, and Power Company. My use is for protection from voltage spikes and brown outs. Ultimately settled on Furman, since it is used by sound crews that have a lot of the same needs… isolation of ground loop hum, protection of their equipment stacks (That are also not cheap.), and in comparison, much more reasonably priced. Nonetheless, this is an insightful and informative review. Thanks for taking the time to post it, knowing full well their will be copious amounts of ridicule from the punters.
Very well thought out and honest comment. My experience is pretty much the same as yours. I use a very nice Monster unit as well, but it’s just there to protect my gear. Would love to see a demonstration that validates these types of reviews.
Shane, it would not be that difficult to set up a legit blind test and film it in real time. You have mentioned doing this before during a podcast. Something like this would be of real value to budget conscious audiophiles.
@@brucecarter6205 there will be a blind test with the cables. This will take time. Folks think a YT video is a simple endeavor. I don't have the time to do another one for power conditioners nor do I feel it necessary for me. But no matter the outcome there will be positive comments and detractors and negative comments. I know you know what I'm talking about. That's just what an AQ video brings. Feel free to be negative about the product. Whether you think it'd beneficial to you that's for you to decide. You seem to want to come directly at me though. Okay.
whoa... this was a fantastic video! I was hunting for a video that compared the 5000 to the Furman ... you should add that in the title for more views. So, how delighted i was to see EXACTLY what i was looking for. And the Entech analyzer addition was MORE THAN i hoped for. So, the numbers were no question. The Niagara is where i'm going. Gotta get me one of those analyzers :)
imo it depends on how noisy or noise-sensitive your system is. I use to use Thor power conditioner power boards and now i have dedicated lines which i plug my components straight into. to me without conditioners the sounds is more dynamic.
Utter BS all electrical wiring as an RF antenna if you are wrried about it a 25 dollar filter will eliminate it. Useless anyway since the transformer of the amp filters it anyway! Unless you live in an area where the wall current fluctuates significantly these very expensive boxes are another audioquest bunch of BS.
Since you had both the 3000 and 5000 at the same time and you were using a fairly high powered Krell, did you notice any improvement or difference between those two units?
Am a believer...have a 1200 with Thunder P/C in line with my component setup. Thank You for the review, though why a 3000 & 5000? The similar outcomes, didn't need more outlets?
Power conditioners will really be noticeable if you live an area with really old power lines that have dirty power, otherwise it shouldn't make a huge difference
iFi powerstation is really good for the money and sounds better in my system than many other expensive ones I've tried. No side effects of dynamics squash even with my Poweramp.
Garth Powell designed them all. He worked at Furman before Audioquest. Too bad we can't see what's inside. No reviewer has ever done bench testing on any power conditioner and it's about time.
SpareChange Haha! I KNEW it! Hey, do you have another vid going over top 5 budget conditioners or something similar? If not, please do one? 😄 I can only spend a few hundo, not a few thousand... 👍 You rock my socks off!
Okay some noise was filtered. If the noise analyzer were connected immediately after the first of the noise filtering circuitry in, say, a preamp, would we see the same results? In other words is the extra circuitry in the power conditioner redundant with respect to what's already in your gear? The premise this demo was based on using objective measurements so let's measure again rather than relying on the "increased detail" comments.
Hey king why are you using the 3000 and the 5000 would i need the both of them or just the 5000 for a martin logan 5.2 system that i own which is a pair of electromotion esl a motion 8i center channel a pair of motion 2i an a pair of dynamo 1100x 12 plus on auralex pads for power im looking too get the yamaha mxa5200 an the cx15200 i like the krell system just found out about it on your channel lol duh but its so costly but if i could get an amp an pre amp from krell would it be better that the yamaha what would you recommend if money was not an issue oh ill be doing kimber cables an power cords all around
I have a PrimaLuna Tube amp, a Parasound 5 channel amp, a Musical Fidelity 2 channel amp. I don’t AudioQuest Niagara 3000 Low-Z Power Noise Dissipation System. I don't listen to music above 65 dB and I don’t listen to aggressive genres of music such a Heavy Metal & Rap. Their are only 2 high current outlets un this Audioquest 3000. I can't afford the 5000 or 7000. Will the Audioquest 3000 meet or exceed my needs? Thanks!
While these 2 line conditioners I‘m sure are good, it’s hard to justify that kind of price when a Furman or a Panamax does a very good job too! Good luck Audioquest!
not selling the power cord...I see why. People who are going to spend this kind of money probably already have the after market cords they like to use...and they wont be the cheap ones LOL
I think i hear audioholics comment coming in real soon!! If you guys got the money spend it on how you want, it clearly shows it cleans out the noise here so its doing something, if its 5,000 worth of something its up to you as the consumer.
@@mikepawntee2425 does “properly set up” mean devised in a way to substantiate your current opinion? It is unfortunate but people who’s ideology says there isn’t a difference will wave their magic wand and simply dismiss and/or declare invalid any data that doesn’t support what they already believe.
Wouldn't necessarily say snake oil. If you have a problem with the quality of power going to your outlets, then sure a power conditioner may help. As to whether you you can hear improved sound quality, that's subjective. But I'd rather look at resolving the issue first by running a dedicated line from the mains panel to the wall outlet and plugging my gear directly to it. This discussion on power conditioners is a good listen: ruclips.net/video/1_Us6cF8pbk/видео.html
at bare minimum get the AQ 1200 power conditioner. the 3000 and up models filter out more of the higher frequency ranges compared to the 1200 model. if you dont have dedicated lines just for your audio setup than a power conditioner is very important. clean power means all your equipment has a quieter background and 95-100% less noise going to it. Any noise in your power lines the equipment will pick it up and amplify it making it worse. clean power will mean a variety of benefits for your audio and video equipment even your tv will benefit from it. also keep your power cords away from interconnects, speaker cables etc as much as possible. even if the power cords are only a few inches away from another cable its better than touching other cables this will help a tiny bit with noise transmitting to other cables.
Should have a web interface, all outlets should be programmable, web interface should also deliver power logs so you can analyze times of the day at which power varies the most. I'm amazed at how primitive these things are for the price.
Mr. SpareChange: I will be adding the Bryston 28B3 monoblocs to my system. These draw some heavy power. Can I effectively use one Niagara 3000 or 5000 without running out of power? Or do I need two 3000's or two 5000's? Please get back as no one else I've asked has a clue. I add that I have a dedicated 12 awg wire running directly to the breaker box on a 20 amp fuse.
I’m wondering how your system would sound if you plugged it directly into the wall versus the AQ… could all that noise becoming from that cheap out of focus outlet expansion box? I’m not against AQ or clean power, just wondering what the perceived jump in blackness would be from the outlet as that is more of my own situation.
I realized this demo/test shown is flawed. Remember, your equipment power supply filters out noise. You should be testing the noise level coming from your components not noise coming from the wall outlet or the outlets from the conditioner.
Like I mentioned before, your equipment power supply does noise filtering. The correct test would be to see if it's the conditioner or your equipment power supply doing the cleaning. 1. Test an AVR plugged directly into a wall outlet and see how much noise is coming out of the speakers. 2. Test an AVR plugged directly into the conditioner and see how much noise is coming out of the speakers. If the noise levels are the same then the power supply is doing its job and the conditioner is useless. If there is less "noise" from when using the conditioner, then you can say the conditioner is actually doing something.
@@therealshanelee Forget about beliefs and forget about the snake oil arguments. If you plug your equipment directly into the wall outlets, turn up the volume to Reference levels, choose a source input that does not have anything connected to it. Stick your ear up next to your speakers and listen for "AM Radio" station noise coming through your speakers. If you don't hear any "AM Radio" Station noise coming through your speaker, having all of the equipment plugged directly into your wall sockets, then you honestly say that your equipment is filtering out the noise coming from the AC wall outlets on their own without the help or need for a Conditioner. I don't think what I've said is unreasonable. But I understand the politics of this business. Hope I don't get shadowbanned.
I've said in the past when I had the Furman I've heard am radio in my left channel. The Furman cured it. So it works. I've also described what I've heard. I'm not on here to dispute anyone's belief in snake oil or otherwise. You can take the video anyway you want. I'm relaying exactly my experience with it.
I went from the Panamax to the Niagra 1200 heard a difference in sound, making things smoother. upgraded to the 3000 smoothed the sound out again. Shane, what's the difference between 3000 vs 5000 in sound quality? I'm also running a Krell amp.
The only reason to get this unit is if you want the local surge protection it offers and need the outlets, or you want something cool in your system to point at. Other than that, any increase in perceived sound quality is negligible and or nonexistent at best (refer to ASR for self-education). These devices don’t do anything else to “help” the sound. What these devices do is validate just how strong the placebo effect really is - if you believe a device will improve the sound of your system, it will.
I have a Mcintosh kit , now with a 10 years Furman ELITE-10 E . Consider to upgrade the Furman ( or not ). Need to decide between the Niagara 3000 OR the Mcintosh MCP 1500 ... Any honest advice will be appreciated. thanks
It's a shame that home theater power conditioners are only available in the US and Canada. I just use a cheap surge protector plugged into the main socket and then an APC surge protector 6 outlet power strip where my TV, 4K Blu-ray player, av receiver and subwoofer are connected to.
I've tried one of the cheaper furman Power conditioners which definitely made a difference in my system but not a good one. Although the noise floor was better the dynamics were gone.
If it really can clean and make the power stabvle and so on it is not a question about price of system. This prove to me it only does so little in terms of cleaning anything. Clean stable power is the most importnant thing i a hifi sytem. Unfotunately its impossible to have. You can only wait for the good times at night and so on where it sometimes is cleaner

Shane, sorry to join this discussion a year late. I’m not an audiophile but my family enjoys movies. We live in Florida, so in addition to the sunshine, we also have lots of thunderstorms and the occasional hurricane. Typicality, my surge protectors have been sufficient to save my equipment when neighbors were replacing gear. Last summer, during a near miss hurricane, I experienced my first brownout. We had three major power fluctuations within moments, then our TV screen turned brown. The AVR was done, but it could have been much worse. I’ve upgrading to a 13 channel surround system but I need to protect it before spring arrives. I watch your channel often, but I don’t recall if this Niagara gear in still your rack later? If you have switched to something else, what are you using, and why? I don’t require the highest level of performance ($5,000 plus a power cable won’t pass the “happy wife” test) but I do need a solid solution. Thanks in advance for checking this old thread and for your insight!
I like all the Audioquest equipment I’ve bought and will continue to buy more in the future, but this video was one big fat advertisement thinly veiled as a review. Please try harder next time. Respectfully yours -Mike

I've uploaded 3. The others were shortened clips from the same video. Same for Trinnov and LG/ Sony. One video split into shortened clips based on topic for quick consumption. Keep the trolling coming guys. I love it.

Richard Gray Power Company. I have two. $1500 bucks. You don't need 8 grand of power conditioners. When you get older, you spend your money on gear much wiser.
There are also power cords that reduce noise. Transparent Audio and Shunyata Research come to mind. I have the Furman units, and have Transparent power cords on most of my gear. With the Transparent PCs I heard increased detail I hadn't heard before in the sound. I might put a noise-reducing power cord on my SPR and call it a day, as the IT-Refrence is chained to it.
Everything I run in my home theatre runs clean because the power running to our home is clean. No need for a power conditioner. Surge protection only. $3000 and $5000? Forget it!!!!! What background noise were you hearing before? Why not put your microphone at the speaker and demonstrate the difference? Your demonstration is of something no one does when listening to audio equipment. The whole system also seems quieter, as described in the video. The system is composed of equipment from McIntosh, Revel, Rega, and Clearaudio.
I have a furman. Makes a difference for sure but those are definitely the nicest looking ones I’ve ever seen
Awesome. Glad it worked out for you.

How many people have to be liars in order for you to be correct?

Try going straight to the wall and compare it with the Niagara.
Thank you. There are a ton of folks out there interested in these products and similar ones. It's definitely not for everyone.
Very well thought out and honest comment. My experience is pretty much the same as yours. I use a very nice Monster unit as well, but it’s just there to protect my gear. Would love to see a demonstration that validates these types of reviews.
No RUclips video is going to capture what it would sound like in person. You'd have to listen to it first hand.
Okay.
Where is the UL certification or ULC ?
whoa... this was a fantastic video!
Where did you buy that noise tester for electricity
imo it depends on how noisy or noise-sensitive your system is.
ROTFLMAO !.
Great comment! This one definitely deserves a response from Shane.
EXACTLY!
Can the 3000 provide enough power for a Gryphon Diablo 300 integrated amp ?
I am convinced! Where did you buy that meter. I want to get one.
Since you had both the 3000 and 5000 at the same time and you were using a fairly high powered Krell, did you notice any improvement or difference between those two units?
He probably plugged the amp directly into the wall outlet.
Am a believer...have a 1200 with Thunder P/C in line with my component setup. Thank You for the review, though why a 3000 & 5000? The similar outcomes, didn't need more outlets?

I agree. The Ifi powerstation is incredible. I have one myself and a niagra 1200 and I prefer the ifi powerstation.
Garth Powell designed them all. He worked at Furman before Audioquest. Too bad we can't see what's inside. No reviewer has ever done bench testing on any power conditioner and it's about time.
Thanks fir an informative video and for answering my question about the Niagara 3000
I’ve literally been pricing power conditioners over the past couple of days. You read my MIND! 😄
That's exactly why I did it.
These are popular items. Not hard to get a demo and get ears on time with them in and out of the system. You can be the judge.
Hi is there much of a difference between the 3000vs 5000 especially if you do not need all the outlets, is the sound quality the same.
I use PS Audio power regenerator, I think it did make audible difference for me

I agree. The question is whether or not it makes an audible difference. That little meter was cool though.
Nice video! Do you plug your amps to the power conditioners? Just wondering if it makes the sound better or worse. Thanks
My power conditioner makes a very noticeable and repeatable improvement in sound quality even to untrained ears.
@@mikepawntee2425 wow, you totally convinced me of your opinion.
I'm amazed by the test. Maybe i will get one as well.
No power cord with the uber expensive conditioner?????
3M dragon HC power cord is 15K , you can buy few houses in some countries for that money, heck south side Chicago for that matter , lol
You can use one of either. They have to be plugged into the high current outlets.
Probably zero difference. Power amps should be plugged into the wall outlet directly
I realized this demo/test shown is flawed. Remember, your equipment power supply filters out noise. You should be testing the noise level coming from your components not noise coming from the wall outlet or the outlets from the conditioner.
This device is used to test the power going to your equipment. Not after it gets there.
I touched on what I heard in this video. Whether or not you believe it makes a difference is totally up to the individual.

I went from the Panamax to the Niagra 1200 heard a difference in sound, making things smoother. upgraded to the 3000 smoothed the sound out again. Shane, what's the difference between 3000 vs 5000 in sound quality? I'm also running a Krell amp.
I honestly don't hear a difference between the two. The outlets are a lot better on the 5000 though and you do get more of them.
I'm sure you've owned one to make that assessment.

Audioquest Hurricane.
I've tried one of the cheaper furman Power conditioners which definitely made a difference in my system but not a good one. Although the noise floor was better the dynamics were gone.
Can you compare it to the 1200?

Shane, sorry to join this discussion a year late. I’m not an audiophile but my family enjoys movies. We live in Florida, so in addition to the sunshine, we also have lots of thunderstorms and the occasional hurricane. Typicality, my surge protectors have been sufficient to save my equipment when neighbors were replacing gear.

The AVR was done, but it could have been much worse. I’ve upgrading to a 13 channel surround system but I need to protect it before spring arrives. I watch your channel often, but I don’t recall if this Niagara gear in still your rack later? If you have switched to something else, what are you using, and why? Rule #1 never buy a surge/power conditioner that cost more than your avr or speakers!
I would agree with that idea.
What background noise were you hearing before? Why not put your microphone at the speaker and demonstrate the difference? Your demonstration is of something no one does when listening to audio equipment.
