Since I see this get overlooked in most conversations about the Killing Joke movie: the relationship between Bruce and Barbara is canon to the universe of BTAS. It's a messy relationship which carries on into the comics, it's behind Dick's back, and Bruce even knocks Barbara up while Dick is off at college. Considering the team and the casting, the Killing Joke film happening in the BTAS universe (albeit unofficially) gives context to the additions in question...for better or worse.

After watching Black Adam and seeing the first weekend's box office, it was obvious that the movie was never going to be a hit or even be profitable. Dwayne only said they made the movie for the "fans" because he knew it was bad that was his only hope for saving the movie. It's also why he promoted Cavill's return in the mid credit scene more then the actual film during his press tour. Luckily for us, the DCEU is dead and Dwayne has no creative control. Gunn is at the helm and he'll right this ship.
It _might_ have made more money at the Box Office if they released it in August like originally planned. I also can’t help but wonder if Zaslav _deliberately_ made it release against Wakanda Forever because he wanted a Warner Bros. film with PoC leads to fail in order to self-justify his troubling internal biases. Allegations of racism guiding all his cancellations and removals of shows from HBO Max have been thrown out since day one, and each proceeding decision since then has honestly looked more racist than the last, especially his decision to cut the episode order of bonafide hit tv Cartoon Network show Craig of the Creek and it’s pre-k spin-off Jessica’s Little World, in *HALF* . It just looks very sus when you are acting unnecessarily cruel to the shows with a very noticeable black lead.
I remember Batman Vengeance very well. I no longer have my original copy...I assume one of my friends borrowed it and never gave it back. That was an excellent game. I remember feeling like I am actually playing a BTAS episode. Considering the limitations of the time it was an excellent superhero/comic book video game by all standards. It probably did not have the same budget as games like Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy X. It was developed by Ubi Soft years before the company became famous for the Assassin's Creed series. It's honestly a fantastic game and I really want to play it again.
Regarding why The Killing Joke couldn't be tied to DCAU: they made Batman and Harley Quinn which had a sex scene between Nightwing and Harley, so i don't see why The Killing Joke adaptation couldn't be a part of the universe.
I think they simply just wanted it to be its own standalone thing and not have to worry about censoring anything either. In retrospect maybe that would have been a good idea.
